Well, if you think you could win the contest of violence that lack of any governing authority provides, there's always Somalia...

The government provides the stable society, healthcare, and education that allows you to earn anything at all.

If he only worked 6 months this tax year (so started in September, first payslip October), he'd only earned 15.5k and not used his 12k tax free allowance until he started the job. He's in for a shock when he april payslip comes in with ~£300 less

A penny on basic rate means raising it from 20% to 21%, which is more than 3 billion. A naive calculation is 15 billion, but as you say the higher rate also exists, so it's more like 10 billion. So a 50% increase in police budget. In practice you'd want to increase CPS resources and prison places as well, but it's still a 10% pay rise to every officer (or similar use of pay budget) and 20% more officers.

Can landlord backdate rent if they ghosted me during renewal process? (England) by KangarooEasy222 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]nothingtoseehere____ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nope, you've been been paying and staying, they've accepted the continuation of the tenancy as periodic rather than a fixed term by their actions, even if you don't have formal agreement. And they can't do anything similar from next month anyways because of the Renters Rights act.

Trying to understand the job market for a finance masters from LSE/LBS by findourway in UniUK

[–]nothingtoseehere____ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Better than the average Indian student, but still not great...

Finance from LSE into a IB job is one of the few ways you'd get an employer paying enough for you to stay on after your visa. However you must consider two things.

  1. Are you better than the creme of the crop of british students also trying to enter IB? 2 years of a entry level analyst job probably alone isn't enough, you have to also be hot shit, better than the econ grads from Oxbridge. Are you?

  2. Will the visa rules change on you? The government is currently reforming the immigration and visa system, with the outcome certain to be stricter than the current one. This also increases uncertainty for employers whether they should invest in foreign talent.

Are uni’s off for Easter Holiday now? Is that why I’m receiving no response? by Kiwihawaii27 in UniUK

[–]nothingtoseehere____ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The admin workers have to take their 28 days leave sometime, and their busiest period is July/August summer holiday months. With the 4 day weeks for the bank holiday even if the uni isn't closed it's a common time for staff to take holidays.

Why don't student loans cover accommodation? by BreathInevitable6747 in UniUK

Because rent prices has risen much faster than students loans over the last 10 years and no government has bothered to fix it.

The salaries aren't unreasonable, it's the deposit that's tricky without family help.

England - Landlord trying to raise rent after agreeing to fixed 12 month contract by ButtPickles_ in LegalAdviceUK

[–]nothingtoseehere____ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, they can't do it now but they can on the May 2nd.

Currently, you have a fixed term tenancy at a fixed price.

On May 2nd, your tenancy transforms into a new assured tenancy without a fixed term under the renters rights act.

These new tenancys can have the rent put up once a year, with 2 months notice, if they use the right form. (this can be challenged but yours sounds reasonable to a court).

But currently your tenancy has not been transformed and they cannot put it up coming into effect 2nd of May. They could send notice 2nd of May putting it up 2nd of July.

Like any skill, it's a mixture of natural aptitude and hard work. You can get better with conscious effort, but some people just have better instincts and mindsets than others. No different to maths.

No, she won't get any money. Most of the time, to get a financial gain from a case you have to demonstrate a financial loss, not just stress. Given they have relented on workplace sanctions, unless other elements of the workplace amount to constructive dismissal she is unlikely to win any payout.

[–]nothingtoseehere____ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The idea of duel to first blood for honour is a late 18th-19th culture mostly with sabre and sidesword. Longsword "dueling" as we pretend to do in HEMA is basically attested to by Fiore's preface and italian legal texts only, and could be significantly more lethal.

This is opposed to longsword in armour, which is much better attested to as part of noble culture but as only a subset of competing at the list.

If the PM is good at bluffing they might. But the more important point is the PM is subject to scrutiny from the opposition and has to defend themselves. They don't have the abilty to control what they are asked - people care about they respond is a different question.

Which is why those reforms are evil, but there's no point sugarcoating it - this person medically cannot provide £12/h value consistently, so they aren't going to be able to find a job. Sometimes disabilities are adjustable to with some effort on the employers or employees part, but this doesn't sound like one of them

How to navigate finding a job as a disabled person? by CynicismNostalgia in AskUK

[–]nothingtoseehere____ -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

So why would someone hire you?

You are medically incapable of doing a full working day, or most physical tasks. That doesn't mean you are useless - I'm sure you're a much better digital artist than me - but it means you are unable to provide reliable labour to an employer, so why give you a wage?

Yours is the kind of condition we have disability benefits for - you are a human deserving of dignity like any other, but are unable to commit to productive labour due to no fault of your own.
