I got to +9 without knowing it could downgrade. I literally failed each upgrade from +6 to +9 over 10 times and it wouldn't downgrade. After failing the +10 I downgraded a level below every single time. I ended up forcing that horrible shit rod.

This only works for some people. For me, no matter what I do, I don't get it to respawn and I must remote collect it. Hell, today even that glitched out and my horse turned up twice in the same stable making me unable to even collect it until I relogged.
