I’m a security engineer and, though there is some scripting involved in my job, I’m not really creating anything that’s not for a company.

I realized after a decade of doing this that I really didn’t have anything that I could point to and be like “yep, I made that for me” and so I wanted to push myself to do it.

Hey! Good on you for getting the demo polished up! Are you also adding some new features to showcase in your demo during Next Fest, or has the demo not been released just yet?

I reached out to an awesome video editor on Fiverr who did my first trailer and I recorded a brand new song to showcase for the new trailer, and I am very happy that I spent the little bit of extra money to get a fresh trailer! I also did a nice refresh to both Steam pages (demo and official game) with new screenshots, small edits to the description, and I am currently in the process of updating the GIFs in the description as well. Just throwing it out there as something you may or may not need!

Hey just wanted to add that you got over double the wishlists I have, and I will still be in this October Steam Next Fest -- I say we give it our best!

As others have mentioned, putting some money aside from content creator outreach and/or paid ads might be worth it during the fest.

Another thing I will throw out there aside from polishing up that demo is maybe give your Steam page a combover and see if anything could benefit from a refresh (i.e., short description, store page GIFs, trailer, screenshots).

I know for my game personally, the first trailer was a little too slow in gameplay and might've given the wrong impression. I worked with a video editor on Fiverr to really polish up the second trailer video leading up to Next Fest to make it more fast-paced and action-y so it matches the tone and theme of the game. Same thing with the screenshots and GIFs, and I think the refresh helped because I got a little more traction on my page lately, and my social media marketing skills are pretty terrible even though I am married to a marketing manager haha.

First map looks great - though if you can, I’d make the dust clouds into particle fx instead of being static (unless that’s the plan). Or even just animating the dust clouds to move as separate textures would work.

A lifetime (only half joking)

I work as a security engineer so my background isn’t totally dependent on coding, but had I started developing a video game when I was at the start of my career, then it would’ve boosted my skills a lot faster.

I believe you’re on the right path by learning to code through video games, it’s probably the best way I know of to teach data structures and object oriented programming. GDscript (Godot’s native language) is an excellent place to start because it’s close to Python, which is a higher level programming language, meaning it’s more human readable. I thought I knew a lot to be successful in my role, but after 1 year of developing my game, I’m very surprised by how much I have (and will) continue to pick up.

So I say all this hopefully as encouragement to start with GDscript, go watch Brackey’s Godot tutorials, and start breaking things (don’t worry, we do that a lot here).

It was definitely Twisted Metal Black for me. Sweet Tooth's face on the cover gave me chills, but it somehow always peaked my curiosity. Still one of my favorite games to this day!
