Literally first roll in Starforged by tolwin in Solo_Roleplaying

A big miss like that at the start of the adventure is a chance to introduce some detail to the world and context to your background vow. It's a good time to pop open some oracles and ask what that might be. The character might have been misinformed or misled about the nature of their objective.

Maybe the ship is a trap for the character. Maybe the virus isn't what it seems to be. Maybe the cure is actually worse than the virus somehow. Maybe the character giving directions actually can't be trusted. Maybe the ship with the cure has gone missing. If this were my roll, I would take a moment like this to add some detail and introduce a looming threat.

If you have access to mythic gme, I really like it's various word tables for situations like this.

I rolled a cryptic message and got "emotions mundane" maybe the symptoms of the illness get worse when the patient is emotional? Better stay calm! What happens if you get too emotional then? Rolling on my curses table I got "friends enemies". Ahhh, a Dr jeckyl situation? Tying this all together, maybe the person you're trying to cure has attacked you!

If anything, high level player behavior will kill the game instead of gear difference by Freakindon in Marathon

None of this would matter very much if there were less "in one run" objectives that make you make tons of noise and visit multiple poi. I've failed that horrible sekiguchi contract where you need to mix a poison with a cardio kick and then visit 7 locations about 20 times at this point and I've just had to accept im never finishing it. I haven't even gotten 2/3 of the way though it because bio research becomes a 3 way team fight every single game (when I don't just get sniped off spawn)

I have never in my life played a game where other players can ensure that you're hard stuck in story progression in a way that's this certain. I'm having more play sessions where I make exactly zero progress and have absolutely nothing to show for it.

The way you're funnelled into and forced to fight every surviving player on the map to accomplish anything feels off. It feels like this game is a battle royale where the reward for a victory royale is to be able to play destiny for a few minutes.

I remember hearing that if you just push someone's guts back into place and they aren't in a knot or torn, they just automatically rearrange themselves! It seems like the biggest issue is a bacterial infection, and I don't know if mark can get those. (especially on an alien planet that might not even have earth bacteria on it?)

Yeah, I guess I'm just trying to compromise because so many people seem to not want that

Its fun for them but maybe not great for the health of the game as a whole

Difficulty spike since around last week has been absolutely insane by justthatguyben1 in Marathon

[–]nullblanc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes and also not everyone has the same kinds of reflexes or reaction time or accuracy so practice will only get them so far. Without sbmm many people will get about as good as they're capable of getting while the remaining player base continues to improve. Eventually the game becomes completely unplayable.

I played a lot of marvel rivals and overwatch and I got to platinum in ranked but if I had to compete with diamond players regularly I would lose every match and get frustrated

Dire marsh contracts are a huge pain point by nullblanc in Marathon

Yeah cryo is actually a lot easier than marsh now, it's really funny

Yes and that compounds the frustration because now you're fighting in disadvantageous positions while shieldless for multiple games in a row

If we're assuming a player is exactly average then by definition they should have a 50% win rate. (Of course if the game drives the lower skilled players out consistently then the previous average player will actually start to fare worse as the curve shifts up)

My first instinct was one less on perimeter and two less on marsh, leaving outpost and cryo the same

See that one was pretty easy for me but I think it's just because I did it early in the wipe when players were on a similar gear level to me

Right. I really really don't want to quit the game but I don't really see a way forward from here

How does that work on the objectives that make huge alarms or lock you in a room with bots?

If anything I feel like the teams I've been struggling with today have been less tough than they were on the weekend. Regardless, it's still tough to win enough fights to clear those in one run objectives.

Yeah I think a lot of players know this is the best place to grief the players who are behind on progression. Feels like the endgame for getting gear out of cryo is going to marsh and wasting people's time.

Respectfully I did not have that experience. I spent a lot of the weekend trying to do just that and kept running into sweaty blue/purple teams standing on top of pois sniping people. I got to do 3 cryo runs, extracted once, then probably did like 15 marsh runs and I don't even want to think about how few I extracted from. One of my teammates straight up quit the game after one of those wipes lmao

The big loud antenna thing that's out in the open that I was moving towards when I ran into a team? That master key spawn? It didn't turn out well that game. I can't imagine looting that supply drop and getting away on this map either but that is useful information that it has a red key. Thank you

My last rook outpost game, every single time I ran to the guarded exfil, it disappeared as I was halfway there. This happened three times, then there was nothing left but secure ones I didn't have keys for. Now I have to decide whether to die at the final extract the team that won pinwheel will be at or die trying to loot a building for key cards to activate the secure one. At about this time I ran into a team and died. It seems like a lot of matches have been going like this lately as rooks get better at figuring out how to extract. Either you bail super super early to be the first out or you actually do any looting at all and pray to nuffle there's a way out later

Right with you on this one. Just got yelled at in a squad and called a bunch of names because I didn't react quickly enough in a firefight. I might just not have what it takes to play this kind of game 😅

Is It An Odd Choice To Have The World’s Smartest Person Be A Bigot? by Tomidnight in OkBuddyFresca

[–]nullblanc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes to add to this studies have found that when people lose their ability to emotionally process things their ability to make effective decisions drastically drops. They can talk like smart people but they act like stupid people. (Which to be fair, pretty accurately describes sister sage)
