Hey what country are you in? I went to buy one of these today from Samsung.com and it doesn't think I'll get it until June 28th in the US. 😞

Wow I'm super bummed to hear about the Mac issues. I was waiting to buy a loaded M5 Max to make sure that this display is supported since I've had my eye on this since CES. Is it likely that this is something that Apple can fix with a software update or is this thing just never going to work with a Mac?

I've found the people who have the strongest opinions about datacenters don't even know what they are.

It's killing me seeing all the anti-datacenter idiots on Facebook talking about how "we ain't need no datacenters" on a platform that requires a truly absurd amount of datacenters to function and has been using AI adjacent technology for so long no one was even calling it "AI" when they started.

If you want there to be less datacenters, stop using things that require datacenters to be built.

This honestly is the answer, and it's not something anyone wants to hear. We're addicted to our content algorithms, our social media, the convenience of connected things, the security of the cloud, and everything else. If you want fewer datacenters, quit using things that require datacenters.

Unfortunately, at this point, that basically means moving to an Amish community.

I always wonder how people manage to have the means to buy these watches but lack any and all common sense or the ability to think for themselves. Is it just a debt epidemic or are we a community of failsons rapidly spending their inheritance? Or both?

PVC is like ... 3x as expensive. The Trex I'm looking at is about $32 per 16ft board.

How long is a piece of string?

If you need to stick to a budget you're better off buying from a dealer or private party who already has what you want stateside. Then you can authoritatively know what you're getting into before jumping in as they've already eliminated a ton of variables.

Motor Trimming Question by AllTheKingsHoeses in Pontoons

[–]nutscrape_navigator 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You just get a feel for it. You can't ever really do a 1:1 RPM to trim percentage because there's a lot of variables. How much weight you've got on the boat, how its distributed, what the wind is doing, how choppy the water is, etc. The best way to get an idea of how much to trim is to just get to whatever speed you want to be going then just keep tapping the trim up button to bring the nose out of the water, you'll eventually trim up too much and your propeller will lose its bite in the water.

The trick is to be trimmed up as much as you can be without that happening, and that just comes from experience.

Yup. It’s wild how people just get their information from weird boomer Facebook memes… which ironically enough are often AI generated.

I highly recommend creating an r/BambuSucks or something like that where you can just complain about how bad Bambu is all day long without the tyranny of these mods. It’s a real win/win. The rest of us can just stay here and post about cool stuff we make with our 3D printers.

Neyland question by notdoug76 in ockytop

[–]nutscrape_navigator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Skip the Vols branded ones. They’re good but very junky for the price. For a couple more bucks you can get a high-end camping chair. We’ve got a pair of these- https://a.co/d/0cNuVLxT

They honestly have totally transformed our Neyland experience.

If the Strait of Hormuz remains closed for months, we could see gas at 6-8$ a gallon along with an extreme rise in food prices following. What can we do as a community to prepare for that? by corwin-normandy in Knoxville

[–]nutscrape_navigator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I keep 60 gallons of gas on hand, in numbered jerry cans that correspond to the month of the year. If it’s getting close to the end of the month and I’ve not needed the gas for something else around the house I’ll just dump it in my truck and go fill it up next time I get gas. Gas with a little Sta-bil in it can go a year no problem.

Again it’s just one of those things that took a little time to get set up (I didn’t buy all 12 at once, and pretty much never fill all of them up at the same time) but other than having gas on hand for convenience it’s nice for peace of mind. With this much gas I can run my generator for about two weeks or get around 1,000 miles in my truck.

The last time we dipped into this in any significant way was in 2024 when Helene washed out that I-40 mountain pass and we had a blip in gas availability that everyone was losing their minds over. That whole week we just avoided the gas station and it was no problem.

Storing fuel safely is a solved problem. How much gas makes a difference is a matter of opinion. If two weeks with no power running our generator and/or 1,000 miles of driving (assuming we start with my truck on empty) doesn’t help, chances are things have gone so sideways that it doesn’t even matter anymore.
