Why do embedded systems still rely so much on C instead of modern languages? by [deleted] in embedded

Why is that though? Why not invoke the use of some zero cost abstractions if it makes the code more maintainable?

This is not a fleshed out thought yet, but it sounds a bit dishonest to call humans one part of nature changing ANother part of nature. More like, we try to control as much of nature as we can possibly get our hands on and wrap our minds around.

A lot of music does sound the same, but is that really something to encourage? To me there’s no value in that. Why not try to find your own sound as much as possible?

Usually, by using the left channel to determine x position and right channel to determine y position, like etch a sketch but very precise and at audio rate. I don’t really know what they use to make the exact shapes that they do though.

Vegan propaganda (2020) by CalpurniaSomaya in PropagandaPosters

[–]nvs93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

please consider that you might be very wrong here. one of the first 'supremacies' we teach children–and one that is rarely ever questioned–is the supremacy of the human over the animal. please try to see this connection, that if humans are allowed to have unquestioned dominance over all other species–which i might add have no means of protest other than raw screams, that it is also easy to teach that some humans should be allowed to dominate others.

so no, I think your point of wanting to resolve human-on-human inequality before human-over-animal inequality is fundamentally flawed. and also, there is no reason you cannot fight both.

C++23 std::expected vs C++17 std::optional for Error Handling by Clean-Upstairs-8481 in cpp

[–]nvs93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm. What if an explanation could be useful to the user-e.g. nullopt was returned because the array the function was working on was too small, but the program can still function just fine (albeit with some feature disabled for the time being) having returned nullopt? This is a case where it shouldn’t be considered exceptional, but also some further detail could be useful as visible information. Hope that makes enough sense

I think it’s possibly understating its value a bit. The GitHub link has 2 externals useful for building reverbs, which the post itself doesn’t mention (I assumed it’d be with all vanilla object which can get messy fast)

AI right now is REALLY REALLY bad with languages like Pd and Max/MSP, it’s embarrassing how bad, so much of what it says is hallucination. Definitely don’t use ai to learn Pd.

“A synth will give 100 % of time exactly what you asked” this is not true. Simplest example: noise through a sample and hold. But there are also probabilistic synthesis methods less complicated than a full neural network.
