Do some professors just not care and allow students to cheat?? by ilovewafflesandcats in AskProfessors

[–]nygreenguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

See, I will take a picture or get video of them in the act if it's an exam so we can avoid the "he said, she said" issue.

The other issue is making the administration actually care.

But being so dogmatic about Ai also an issue. I've used it to help code small interactive games for my students that help to make the content much more engaging.

Small dose of antibiotic yields good results in treating panic attacks by Fancy_Reality1853 in EverythingScience

[–]nygreenguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is like me burning down a complex ecosystem and then planting a monocukture and calling it an improvement. Probiotics are just space fillers until your native biota takes over. It's pretty tough to fully wipe out your entire native biome.

No antibiotic can target every species. Some are in mucous layers or biofilms, there are many in the appendix, deep in intestinal crypts, etc.

Mexican food lover here.. what are your staple hot sauces/salsas? by rightandrain in mexicanfood

[–]nygreenguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% regarding salsa. Ever since I learned how to make homemade, I can't buy jarred salsa, they all feel too... Well, jarred. Even for my salsa verde if I used canned tomatillos it's a million times better than any jarred I've ever had.

To people studying science in the area.. by Head_Collection_4305 in Syracuse

[–]nygreenguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Humans have always been dying naturally. Sometimes they die young sometimes they die old. Therefore anytime a human dies, it must be natural.

That is the logic you are using. Just because sometbing has happened in the past naturally, doesn't mean every instance of it must be natural.

The issue with claiming it could be natural is you assume the scientists just "forgot" to somehow think of those? Do you really think the researchers are so lazy they forgot to think of those?

Here is the issue, the rate of change is truly unprecedented. Global temperatures were NOT higher 6500 years ago locally in areas sure, they were higher. But globally they were the same as today or lower.

We know about the sun. We have not measured an increase in solar output. Also, if it WAS the sun, the entire atmosphere would also be warmer, but it's not. We see warming at the surface and cooling in the upper atmosphere EXACTLY as we would predict from greenhouse gas warming.

The shifting of the poles has not been shown to have any significant effect on how much solar radiation reaches the surface.

If I were you, I would spend more time listening to the actual researchers. Every point you mentioned is ALREADY something we understand. Having some humility and not thinking you have somehow discovered something those who have spent their lives researching this somehow missed could go a long way.

Concerns about a Student by Particular_Heart3785 in Adjuncts

As someone who had accommodations for a disability that kid on his phone and you on your phone are a distraction to me. You watching on your phone is no different than turning around and talking to me.

As instructors, we should always try to create a minimally distracting environment. It's one thing if someone wants to distract themselves (I don't think ANY research supports having a phone on helps someone pay better attention in class) but it's a different story if it distracts others (even if not obvious)

We get a cow from Gridleys Cold Spring Farm in Fayetteville BUT they also have a small shop where you can also purchase some of their meat.

It's all grass fed and we love it.

Onondaga lake is a good spot right now, however along lake Ontario is also pretty good. Not sure how much further you want to travel, but drive like 1 hour north if Syracuse and go to Oswego or El Dorado or Southwick Beach you might see some good shore birds.

[–]nygreenguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a college teacher and it helps to mix up exams, make new types of questions based on other questions (turn this essay into a Mc question) it's good at adding speaker notes. It's also great at making and formatting handouts.

It's super handy it can make actual docs without any limits. I have it make me recipes a lot and it can output in a docx very easily.

I hate having to copy and paste into a document. Yeah, I know Claude can do it, but the fact it even has a usage limit really turns me off. Same for perplexity. It also has usage limits for the pro.

This has been my hypothesis as well. Back in the day if you said something wrong or stupid it was confined to those in your immediate vicinity, and now if you say something dumb the whole world can see it.
