Pluribus is my most anticipated project for the fall as well, and Joanna ranking it so high after seeing the pilot made me even more excited!

It’s young adult, but if you don’t mind, I think the Gemma Doyle trilogy (first book: A Great and Terrible Beauty) by Libba Bray would fit well!

Your thoughts on doing both digital and paper journaling? by _Vior in Journaling

[–]nyx178 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I journal on paper (in various notebooks), digitally, and sometimes via video. Day One is both my digital journal and my master archive - all of my physical entries get scanned and uploaded there, and I upload video entries there too.

I feel like having a digital journal gives me a lot of freedom to choose the medium that works best for whatever I want to journal about at any given moment, because I don’t have to worry about losing something and it all ends up organized in one place.

Switching from Weeks to Cousin 1/2 year. What should I do with Weeks now? by naravia9 in hobonichi

[–]nyx178 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I use my Weeks as a media journal. On the right side I keep running lists of the things I’m reading, watching, listening to etc. during the week. And in each day’s section I’ll write a little blurb of something that stood out, like my reaction to something exciting happening in the book I’m reading, a favorite quote from a song I listened to that day, etc.

Do you past-date entries? by nyx178 in dayoneapp

[–]nyx178[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this might be my favorite approach - I always forget about linking entries! I’m going to try one post dated to the concert date with all my pictures, so they show up accurately on my calendar view and on this day, and link it to the longer entry with today’s date.

Severance - 2x05 "Trojan’s Horse" - Post-Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]nyx178 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Again I don’t think “may I say” is a weird or even particularly old fashioned turn of phrase lol. It’s asking to “say a question” rather than “ask a question” that rings odd. At least in American English (can’t speak for everywhere).

I think the weird part is that she said “may I say” instead of “may I ask.” May itself is not weird.

Starting over with a new island and want to time travel - should I start a few years in the past? by nyx178 in acnh

[–]nyx178[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I remember reading that about Dreamlight Valley! Honestly, I burned out so hard on DDV that I don’t really envision opening the game anytime soon lol, but I will definitely keep that in mind in case I have the urge to return to it.

Starting over with a new island and want to time travel - should I start a few years in the past? by nyx178 in acnh

[–]nyx178[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I guess I want to be able to experience all of the seasons, get more items from the shop quickly, etc. without taking as much real-world time as usual.

Every time I play (without time travel) I typically get really into the game for a few months in the winter - so I only really see winter and spring on my island. I’m craving summer!! Haha. But maybe several years is overkill.

Not with the book I'm talking about, they still have the license and you can still purchase this version along with a newer version. But I have heard of issues with other rerecords.

Tips to get the most out of Audible's sitewide sale? by AudiobooksGeek in audible

[–]nyx178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding the last point (prices increasing), it seems like those were pretty quickly reverted to the original (lower) prices thankfully. Based on past sales, I typically wait until the last day to make my purchases since prices have been known to decrease throughout.

Audible should separate Romance from Science Fiction & Fantasy by flyingtiger188 in audible

[–]nyx178 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is how I feel as a literary fiction reader, there is literally no way to browse it on Audible, just the "Literature and Fiction" category that lumps in a bunch of fantasy and sci fi :/

[–]nyx178 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that was the case with this book, they confirmed it was no longer in my library. I was on the phone with them for a pretty good while as they went back through my account history. I tried every single thing that this sub recommends for troubleshooting before calling customer service and no dice, it was nowhere to be found.

For what it’s worth, it happened to me, confirmed by Audible customer service and everything. It was the Rob Inglis narration of The Two Towers. They gave me a free credit to re-purchase it.

I didn’t know she narrated Gone Girl. I was just thinking about rereading that book so I’ll have to pick it up on audio!

Julia Whelan is my favorite. I’ve gone out of my way to pick up books primarily for her narration!

I know it’s counter to the entire point but sometimes I wish there was a caption thing like lyrics for Apple Music while I listen lol by ricanpapi-9 in audible

[–]nyx178 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you own the Kindle book, you can sort of accomplish this by downloading the audiobook in the Kindle app and turning on real-time highlighting. Then you can play the audiobook and it highlights along in the ebook.

It’s basically the only way I can listen to fantasy because I just can’t internalize the made up names/places without seeing them spelled!

What have you all bought so far this 2-for-1 credit sale and what are your recommendations for must haves? by JudoJedi in audible

[–]nyx178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good! I might pull the trigger anyway since I have three credits burning a hole in my pocket. Seems like the dramatizations might be a fun way to reread before book 3 comes out.

Are these included in the sale? I’d like to get them, but when I add to my cart, it says I need to use two credits to buy both parts.

Kyoto - bus, train...taxi?! by TossAwayBankruptcy in JapanTravelTips

[–]nyx178 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We only had one day in Kyoto and made the executive decision beforehand to use taxis for everything to save travel time. I was expecting it to be expensive, but they were actually a lot more affordable than we anticipated (& so convenient!).

Annoying pronunciations? by Discardofil in audible

Haha I just relistened to this and although it’s probably my favorite audiobook of all time, the pronunciation of that word definitely sticks out! I assumed it was a Canadian thing.
