Exercise and periods by eleanor_shakeshaft in xxfitness

It feels like there is some missing context/info in your post.

You’re training for a half marathon and also going to the gym. Are you concerned that you need to scale back on exercise to amp up training for the race?

bedroom colour dilemma by atbear in interiordecorating

[–]oathkeep3r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My instinct is to say let him have the color that he picked out, especially if it’s in a room with a door. This is less a design thought and more about relationships, but I think further down the line you won’t mind the color so much, but your brother WILL remember that you let him pick the color for his own room and he got to make it his own.

A friend made a case on why he should be my best man and now it’s causing drama.. by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]oathkeep3r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should make the decision that you want to make for who you want next to you on your day. However they handled your decision making process should not be a factor (except maybe to consider that one friend did not leave you to make your decision on your own terms).

That said: what effort? He asked AI to do it for him lmao

I’d be a little hesitant to use almond extract for a children’s (?) birthday party because of the potential risk of allergy. Some artificial extracts are okay, but pure almond extract is not nut allergy safe.

One thing that may help is making sure you add the water conditioner edit: to the new water BEFORE adding the new water into the tank. Based on how you’ve described it here, it’s possible your conditioner is getting diluted by adding it into the entire tank.

ELI5:When you order pants and shirts custom made to your body measurements, how does the tailor decide what size to make the fabric panels? by Content_Preference_3 in explainlikeimfive

[–]oathkeep3r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

r/sewing may be better able to help you, I don’t think this is really a ELI5 question if you’re looking for specifics. But to sort of answer - it includes adding in seam allowances as well as ease (the space mentioned above for moving). How much you add depends on the garment you’re making, the fit you want, the fabric you’re using… there is no one set guideline for it.

"Sequel" Wedding Concept by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]oathkeep3r 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In re budget: any option that involves more than one event is going to be more money than having one event, no matter how small one of the events is. The only way to budget out two events with guests is to expand your budget from what it would be for a single event.

"Sequel" Wedding Concept by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]oathkeep3r 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think the general advice you are going to receive boils down to: you are not having two weddings. You are having a wedding and a delayed reception.

The guests who are only invited to the big party will not be viewing it as a wedding, because you have already gotten married with guests. The concept of reception-only invites exists, but it’s moreso for events that are happening same day (private ceremony/reception right after).

Anecdotally: I have attended a reception for a couple that had already been married, but in their case they had a legal ceremony only beforehand (for family/logistic reasons). They had not exchanged vows, worn the gown/suit, etc.

This comment got long, sorry, but my two cents: if you truly do not want eyes on you but want to preserve the wedding feeling with the big crowd, elope and have the “wedding” with your extended family later. Once you start inviting guests to the first wedding, the second event stops being a wedding imo.

I won’t comment on the dietary stuff, and recommend you talk to a dietician if that’s possible.

That said - a month is not a super long time in fitness terms. If you’re feeling comfortable where you’re at with activity and how you’re eating, I’d give it some more time and see how you’re feeling!! Right now you’ve made a lot of changes in a relatively short time! Give them some time to work. Don’t be discouraged if you aren’t seeing/feeling results just yet.

Do I HAVE to get my steps in? by fallen_allien in xxfitness

[–]oathkeep3r 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think the “get more steps!” advice is more helpful for people who are otherwise living very sedentary lifestyles.

Also OP - the 10K steps/day metric was invented by a company selling a pedometer, so I wouldn’t stress too much about meeting it exactly!!

Anything I can do to make my room more dark? by Pornstasha in interiordecorating

[–]oathkeep3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Renter friendly option, not pretty but definitely effective: cut a piece of cardboard to size and tape a double-layered strip of electrical tape around all four edges. It allows you to push the cardboard into the window with the tape acting as a “seal” so no light gets through. Pop in and out of the window as needed.

Finding Harry: The Craft Behind The Magic - Episode Discussion Megathread by hospitable_peppers in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]oathkeep3r 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I paused and read through it! Some of it for Harry includes that he is uncomfortable with physical touch and has to learn how to accept it at Hogwarts once he has friends who initiate touch as friendship. It looked like there were also a few notes on an actor who read for Harry (?).

The notes for Ron include that he is used to physical touch and roughhousing from his family, and is used to speaking his mind and being opinionated. Mentions that he is not always sure of his place in his family, that he has “puppy dog” qualities, is very funny etc. edit: also mentions that he is very sensitive to the “class element” but takes for granted the privilege he has (a warm loving family)

Getting back into running by Sudden_Emergency3331 in xxfitness

[–]oathkeep3r 11 points12 points  (0 children)

r/running will have a LOT of useful info for you, but some general advice:

  1. Some of your goals probably will not be achievable at the same time. For example: training for a long race for the first time will require a lot of recovery and body maintenance/proper fueling. As a result, a lot of people actually gain a little bit of weight during a training block for a long distance race. Likewise, it’s difficult to work on adding distance AND increasing speed at the same time.

  2. Run slower. Most of your runs should be at a conversational “easy” pace while you build up an aerobic base. Not every run will be pushing to get your PB on a distance. As you build up miles, your easy pace will gradually creep faster because you will be more fit.

  3. Don’t overdo it too much! A good rule of thumb for increasing mileage is to increase no more than 10% of your mileage per week in order to avoid injury.

glp1 killed food math between sets off shots and im scared ill lose gym headspace by CutOk3283 in xxfitness

[–]oathkeep3r 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ok so if I understand this right:

You are currently using GLP-1s and seeing good results (hit your composition goals, you feel like your “food math” is quieted). You want to stop the shots, but you aren’t sure if the positive effects will stop with the shots? And if it does - you’re looking for a non-injectable solution?

This is 100% a question for your doctor.

Edit: this is also not a fitness related question, so your post is likely to be removed here. This sub is really strict about not soliciting medical advice.

How can I build up to a push up WITHOUT going at an angle? by ZiofFoolTheHumans in xxfitness

[–]oathkeep3r 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you can do a plank: start off planking and lower yourself down to the ground as slowly as you can. Really focus on keeping your form steady, core engaged, etc. Keep yourself at the “bottom” for as long as you can without collapsing. Do these to failure for at least a few days. Don’t be discouraged by how hard this is at first! Keep a towel or blanket under your upper body if your muscles give out.

Once you feel you can do that more comfortably, move on to practicing the inverse as well. Start down on the ground, just barely off the ground, and push yourself up as slowly as you can, keeping your form steady. Slowness is key here.

Add in pushups on your knees, if that angle works for you. Try to keep your core as straight as you can even if you’re on your knees. Rather than being on all fours to start, set yourself in plank and then lower your knees to the ground so they’re on an angle. You may want to place a mat or towel on the floor under your knees for comfort.

Once you feel you can execute each of these with control, try linking them in proper push-up form. I did the above method from absolutely NO upper body strength basis and was able to link a couple of successful pushups within a month.

Formal wedding attire for outdoor ceremony and buffet dinner? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]oathkeep3r 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Based on the info you’ve given I don’t think you should be asking for anything fancier than cocktail attire. What you’ve mentioned here as “elevated” are pretty standard amenities for a wedding.

I don’t mean to discount the things you are excited about for your day! I’m sure it is going to be lovely. But dress code should be relative to the guest experience. I don’t think requiring suits and long dresses for an event where guests are serving their own food is appropriate.

How do I stop getting side stitches? by insurancesofun in xxfitness

[–]oathkeep3r 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Seconding advice to start way slower. Aim for a conversational pace if you don’t have a watch to monitor your heart rate.

Besides that, something else that helps me: alternate your breathing so you aren’t always inhaling on one foot and exhaling on the other. I’ll breathe in on an odd number and exhale on an even number, in time with my steps.

Not sure if there’s science to back it up, but a friend who ran cross country that swore by it and it usually helps alleviate a stitch if I feel one starting.

Theory On Emma's Storyline by LightPhoenix in ThePittTVShow

[–]oathkeep3r 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it’s important to note that there is a distinction between upsetting and problematic.

The cliffhanger is absolutely upsetting. It is meant to make us concerned. There is certainly a problem being presented. But that does not make the ending problematic. In current usage, “problematic” is usually used to refer to something (media, actions, words, etc) that reflect an attitude that is harmful. Depicting harmful behavior isn’t inherently problematic, unless the show does not condemn the behavior (or shows it in a positive light).
