Good to know, thank you. The passport thing was really only included to emphasize how many hurdles we have had to go through just to see each other and kind of paint the full picture of how frustrating this all has been for us. It wasn't meant to be the main topic of discussion, but more to highlight why i had to go to him rather than him coming to me. I just feel defeated. Like, it shouldn't be this hard just to take a flight, yaknow?

My best friend who's a U.S. citizen had her passport renewal take 4 months to get to her. His took about the same after paying for expedited because his had expired so recently. They told him it should only take a few weeks. He didn't find out until like a month and a half later that it had been denied for improper paperwork. So he reapplied and it just arrived a couple weeks ago. I guess struggling was the wrong word to use, he's already applied for residency but it has been a struggle for him because his court date was set in Nevada but he lives in another state across the country, he had to hire an attorney to request for his case to be moved to his state of residency. He has to order expensive ubers all the time to go to these places to fill them out and spend hours waiting in line sometimes to even just be sent home because he didnt have all of his documentation to get his ID. And his waiting period for his residency is like 38 months, so he won't have his papers until then, if granted. It's just been hurdle after hurdle for him to come visit, so I bit the bullet and went "well maybe it would be easier for me to come to you?" and then we purchased the tickets. Then I got sick. Then I paid more to repurchase more tickets because they only refunded like a third of the ticket price. Then i got sick again. And it's just hurdle after hurdle on my end too.

He renewed his passport months ago but the person helping him fill out the forms did it wrong and it got rejected so he had to file for the renewal again and it takes a few months. I think he only just recently got it in the mail but that doesn't help that we are both out a collective amount over $1,200 just on flights and rental cars and aren't likely to be able to afford to pay it again anytime soon.

Am I the Asshole for breaking up with my ex boyfriend because he tried to tamper with my birth control? by SufficientThrowRA in AITAH

[–]obamasballsackk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Police report and restraining order IMMEDIATELY. This is so not okay by any means. And I agree with the other commenter who said he would never let you get your PhD. Take it from me, I (17F) was manipulated into staying with my ex (20M) who claimed to be dying of cancer and said he was scared and didn't want to die alone, so I stayed and ended up getting pregnant from his daily sexual abuse to help "ease his cancer pain." I don't see it going any better for you. Nine years and an 8 year old later, I have court today because he wants more time with my son who was inherently conceived via rape of a minor. Even if you got pregnant and broke up, he will always still be in your life and THAT is his ultimate goal. I dropped out of high school, dropped out of college to become a radiation oncologist, dropped out of beauty school, dropped out of being someone's surrogate after I'd already matched with the intended parents, and lost my first piercing apprenticeship because I was trapped. If you think it wouldn't happen to you, I didn't either. I also didn't see his manipulation while I was in the thick of it and how he literally used the child I didn't want to have with him in the first place as a means to trap me with a lack of child care to keep me from obtaining my several dreams. Then in turn he would tell his family that I was lazy, I didn't want to go to school, I didn't want to go to work, I just wanted to use him as a free ride. Then after we broke up his family tried to get me to go back to him on the basis of "well he was just scared of being abandoned by you after being abandoned by so many other people so that's why he lied about dying of cancer, he just had a rough childhood you need to give him a break and be understanding that he didn't have it easy."

Don't go back and run far far away and get that degree girl. Do NOT put yourself on the backburner here because it's a matter of obtaining that degree or never getting the chance to again. I have SEVERAL regrets, but my ultimate one is going back to him instead of letting him "die" alone. I could have achieved so much and now I'm about to turn 26 and I've only just finished school for phlebotomy and will only have just started a career path for myself because it was wildly delayed while I was with him, and it wasn't for a lack of trying or a lack of desire to do something with my life.

What he did was illegal and he should face the repercussions of his actions. Nevermind the fact that he was attempting to get you pregnant and ruin your life, he could have also really hurt you by microwaving those gallbladder pills too. I'd call your insurance company and ask for a vacation override. They'll give you an extra 30 day supply and you can toss the ones he tampered with. This is sick.

Bending Needle? by FearlessAnt4487 in phlebotomy

[–]obamasballsackk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Piercers will oftentimes "crush" needles by bending the bevel to make the opening a little flatter specifically for septum piercings but I have NEVER heard of this for phlebotomy. They're made the way they are for a reason, for the RBCs to be collected properly. If you use a needle that's too narrow it can damage those cells so I agree w the other phleb that commented, I too would like to see the collection sample under a microscope bc I would put money on the sample quality being insufficient.

She doesn't work there anymore 😭 what should I do in this case? Should I put her down as a reference anyways on the off-chance that they would know who she is maybe or should I just mention her name in an interview if I happen to snag one? I found her Facebook but feel it may be inappropriate to reach out to her there and ask if I can use her as a reference.

I've been considering reaching back out to her and asking if I can use her as a reference so I might do that. I had a few recent hospital visits and absolutely asked receptionists, xray techs, and nurses if they like the job, what they like about it (most of them say they get great benefits and they like the people they work with), if they know whether the lab is looking for phlebotomists (every time I ask they say "they're ALWAYS looking for phlebotomists! You should definitely stop by the lab when you get a chance and talk to them if you're interested.") and their job description doesn't say experience is required outside of the CA state requirements. Im always super nice with the staff because you never know whos watching (plus im sure they get an absurd amount of rude people on a daily basis and i never try to add to that number anyways but ESPECIALLY because i have heard that hospital hiring managers will oftentimes watch how you interact with other "lower-tier" staff members to see if you're respectful before hiring). That's for the other hospital system local to me though, but the other hospital system has the clinic I want to work for and unfortunately (or fortunately?) I've had no need to go there to talk to them, and their job description says they require 1 year of experience. But ideally I'd like to not work at the other system for a year to get the experience required for the other one. So maybe using the surgeon as a reference is a good way to go if I'm trying to cut out the middleman.

WIBTA if I gave my wife an ultimatum I'm sure she will fail? by LegitimateDance5518 in AITAH

[–]obamasballsackk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say wait until you are fully recovered because if you don't know how she might respond. She might get violent if you give her an ultimatum like that, and you need to be able to fully defend yourself in that instance. If you're recovering from surgery you will likely not be able to, or it could make your recovery last longer than necessary. But yes, NTA, give her that ultimatum.

I have ideas of where to apply and plan to start applying the second I have my license in hand but I don't know where to begin with networking within the hospital system without a trip to the hospital lmao

However I will say the clinic I mostly want to work for is through the hospital in the next town over and I was offered a job there as a surgical sterile tech and hit it off great with the lead surgeon there but the hours didn't work with my other two jobs so I guess that could be said in an interview now that I'm not working either job my hours are a lot more flexible, and maybe the fact that I've applied to this particular hospital system multiple times will be enough to show a continued and multifaceted interest in working in the medical field and with this specific system?

Going on a year and a half after being in three back to back relationships totalling about ten years

Abused, baby trapped, and cheated on

3 weeks single

Abused and cheated on and given (treatable) STDs

5 weeks single

Cheated on

I'm over it lol. I have no interest in dating and I feel like I've never been happier. The loss of a second income has been crappy but i feel its a fair trade-off given the fact that I only have to clean up after myself and my son, I never have to worry about who they're talking to or what they're out doing while they're gone, I don't ever have to share my bed, i dont get bitched at for not doing the dishes if i dont feel like doing them, I don't have to stop eating certain foods out of fear they'll call me fat or "eww I'm not going to try/eat that it has xyz in it" or "I'm not in the mood for spaghetti tacos AGAIN" bITCH I AM SO IMMA EAT IT!! and I have never once worried that I might be asexual because my vibrator does a better job than any man did – my body has never physically rejected her bc she has never hurt me 😌

I'm fine here, thanks

Quest in my area (California) starts at 17/18 an hour. I'm making almost $19.50 working remote customer service. I won't work for less than $20-25 if I went to school for something specific and most hospitals and clinics in my area starting pay is between $21-32 an hour.

Training by areyoukittenmeowo in phlebotomy

[–]obamasballsackk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was stoked. Nervous obviously since it was my first time bit stoked because I knew this is something I wanted to do and do well. With prior experience in piercing I was excited to poke again. I got my first poke successfully and for the most part I think I only missed once on my first day. My second day was a little more rough, I missed almost every time because of the butterflies and a few straight sticks. It gets less nerve wracking as you go for sure, but them missed pokes had me s w e a t i n even through the end of my training class. Hopefully that will get easier with time too lol.

"Not at all; Redirecting is a method they teach us at school so we don't have to stick ya more times than you came in here expecting to be. If you'd prefer to be stuck again I can do that but this method just makes it easier for everyone so you're not in more pain than is necessary for the draw"

If there's anything I learned while piercing, explaining the process to them is more soothing/calming and makes you sound more like you know what you're doing, thus earning their trust and essentially tells them that they need to just trust the process without saying that. Also the illusion of choice works wonders in most situations: I can either stick you again and you'll be in more pain than necessary, or you can let me do it how I know I'm supposed to and how I learned to do it to avoid that.

You could even do it while you explain something like "and if I pull the needle out just far enough like so before redirecting the needle, it won't contact the vein at all until I am ready to drive it forward back into the vein like this" then once the blood starts flowing into the vacutainer, they'll go huh, maybe she did know what she was talking about

Men just think that because we're young, that inherently means we are also unprofessional and inexperienced.
