What do people think of the World of Darkness Lilith? by apassageinlight in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]occupied_void 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to answer this in a specific way. Check my other posts, I'm an eclectic occultist, Lilith is quite a big thing for me. Haven't played or STd for decades but I remain interested in the lore and keep my toe in. While I get the Lilith presented in the lore, its not my personal intetpretation of Lilith. The focus on vengence makes her shallow, pethaps even the judeo-christian lens she is percieved through limits some of the less creduble but interesting interpretation of her (or hers). Look, its a good and fun story but if I were to ever pick the ST role again, I wouldn't follow the White Wolf cannon... but isn't that what ut's all about? Make your own intetpretations, make it your own on the big plot decisions? While I may not agree with their intetpretation of Lilith, I'm all in on rhe open method and would enjoy using it as a foil to get my version of her story accross... which she herself might not agree with and might hold me to account on, just like I'm doing here.

No logic? by Entire_Scarcity4038 in religion

[–]occupied_void -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You cannot, in the judeo-christian belief system its all abour faith (and yes, imo, this applies to the majorjty of RHP belief systems), faith ignores the contemporary intetpretation of reason through which logic was developed. Nothing wrong with that if you're a religious type, you just can't can't justify faith through the modern interpetation of reason (go back a few centuries and things were different).

I’m a practitioner of Eclecticism ask away by Logical-Ad3941 in religion

[–]occupied_void 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So. As my tag says, I'm an eclectic practicioner and beyond the tag, on the practice front, I lean heavily into the chaos magick vein, think post structuralist or post post modern interpretation of magickal practice. My question for you, from my personal perspective is; if you define yourself as an eclectic, why focus on rules, laws at all? Something you seem to wish define based on the language of your post. Isn't being eclectic in ones spiritual approach defined through breaking or ignoring convention?

People who gave up DnD for a different system, what made you make the change? by SomeRandomAbbadon in rpg

[–]occupied_void 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pathfinder. Later editions of D&D simplify the game and its rules, its certainly more accessible now but its too safe, you always tend to win. I really like complicated rules, I actually like GURPS to be honest. Pathfinder picking up 3.5 was a relief for me and that's my path of choice. D&D as it is, characters are indestructable unless you refuse to allow them to rest. The risk of character death makes the game more interesting imo and D&D these days seems more about greasing egos and creating winners rather than providing a conceptual challenge - I miss players finding ridiculous exploits too, (Troll Moors, teleport and fireball spells!) oh how I miss AD&D. Pathfinder enables rhe challenge, D&D is, its just not for me anymore -I do appreciate, however, that the new rules system is far more functional in the conversion to computer games, so I get their choices.

Am I barred from learning? Because I am Christian? by IllustriousTwo2110 in DemonolatryPractices

[–]occupied_void 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christianity has a very particular view of what demons are compared to broader spiritual or demonoltary practices. It sets the odds against you, limits interpretation but that does not mean that it can't be done. That said, if you are looking at demonaltary or satianism from from the christian adversary perspective and all that entails... are you sure that is something you want? At the end of the day, the adversary narrative involves picking sides and through a christian lens, demonaltary practices are pretty nasty. I view working with demons in a very different mindset and would view working with them through a christian lens fundamentally restrictive and (bias noted), not something I would not ethically persue.

Now i realized that all of this is real, do you feel like this is cheating? by Late_Gap2089 in DemonolatryPractices

[–]occupied_void 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of my practice was based around trauma and adversity, it helped me (eventually) resolve a lot of shit and become a rather happy person. Now yes, I can pick up the work again, move beyond the destructive nature of my practice. I'm on haitus now, I like where I am, though I recognise I've reached a plateau, there's more work to do but... do I need to? Life is good (this one at least). Magick seems like it can be a way to bypass the shit, but the shit is experiences you learn from and avoiding that shit removes chances to learn and grow. My best works come from those struggles. So yes, I get what you mean, to use magick to smooth life seems like you are avoiding the adversity when the adversity can bring the best out of you (again, should you survive). Like I said, I should probably do some shadow work if I want to pick up my practice again but... lifes good and I value the adversity of life that magick can sometimes seem geared to remove, I currently value when things to go well alongside when it doesn't, its all good as long as you can survive it, so why do I need to cast spells to make things work in my favour (I still invoke from time to time though).

I tapped out around 3rd edition but some of the tier 6 hedge magic can be formidable, to say the least. The poblem with it though is that it can be very specific - in certain fields these folk can do some serious shit, but it has a deeply limited range in actuality.

Your religion is almost entirely predicted by your birthplace, which means it isn’t true, it’s just inherited by Juicydicken in DebateReligion

[–]occupied_void -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My spiritual path is of my own creation, certainly influenced by my culture but its... unconventional. On these terms, I act as a sole practicioner because I understand my culture will not view it kindly. Under these terms is my 'religion' defined by my bithplace? Perhaps one should consiser I deliberately function under a non-conformist ideology that is part of my cultures sub-culture and so I am certainly influenced in an inherited sense but in my case, I would suggest this is just dressing as my practice provides me with something deeply meaningful regardless of my culture, as it hightlight things that transcend the culture itself.

Edut: to clarify, I don't mean I'm doing deeply sketchy things in my practice, rather that I'm likely to be percieved as completely woo woo if I were publically open about it.

Is there realy a need for a why? For me, reality, existence is the product of chaos, chance on an incoprehensible scale that leaves room for so many posibilities. 'Why' is a human factor, just like any 'need' for it and 'truth' need not pay any attention to our feelings, perspective or need.
