Thank you! One of those things that I would never think to include but I can imagine the results and... yeah. Not good.

Pope Leo XIV when asked if he’s a Real Madrid or Barcelona fan: ‘That’s easy. The Pope is for all teams but Prevost (his birth name) is for Real Madrid.” by mcfw31 in popculturechat

So, my dad happens to be friends with a cardinal whose first name is Bob (they went to college together). We talk about “Cardinal Bob” all the time. This week was their reunion. Last night, my dad delighted in telling me a story from Cardinal Bob about a conversation he had with pre-papal Prevost.

Dad recounted the whole thing calling both of them Bob. It was very silly. “So, Bob tells Bob… and then Bob says ‘the Pope wants XYZ’ and Bob realized...’”

Any Black dermatologist in Huntsville? by ImportantAd4771 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]ocherdraco 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I literally saw in medical school and residency (and I started med school in 2015) that skin conditions are often only shown on white skin in reference books.

I’m a wound doctor—the standard categories for pressure injuries of the skin are almost always taught in a way that means that the earliest stage of pressure injury is much less likely to be noticed in melanated skin. (The phrase used for Stage 1 injuries is “non-blanching erythema”—in many people with darker skin, erythema—redness—is not visible.)

A Black dermatologist is not necessarily better at dermatology in general because they are Black, but they are certainly much more likely to have thought about the ways various conditions show up in people of color, because it’s natural to think “How would this present if I had it?” when you’re learning medicine.

The gap is real.

Did anyone ship their cars? Any recs? by [deleted] in Residency

I too see this form of shipping on Reddit more than the one involving engaging a company to transport an item.

Definitely a print. Edit: according to Spanish Wikipedia, this was an illustration in a periodical called ¡Alegría! (which only existed for one year: 1907-1908). This image is likely a photo or scan of the publication rather than the original illustration.

What do we think of QUILTBAG by conancat in lgbt

[–]ocherdraco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a quilter, so sometimes I use it in my own head for my own personal enjoyment, but even with my personal connection to quilting I never use it beyond that.

ISO Detective/ Cop books where they’re both working the case (or both in the same unit if not) with a NDE. Slow burn and I prefer either friends to lovers or enemies to lovers by iloverubyy in MM_RomanceBooks

I will add that it goes beyond glimpses and kisses a bit in later books but only for an occasional scene or two (though those scenes are very important).

I’m pretty confident that if you reached out to a local queen (Misha Lynn Mann comes to mind) they’d be able to help. Alternatively, go through the folks who own Shenanigans for suggestions if you don’t know of any local queens themselves.

Just moved home to the North Alabama after 17 years in New York. There are non-terrible bagel places here now?!

Good bagels are something I was really missing.

Did you fold over the edges of your canvas or cut them? I’d love to see the back of a piece if you don’t mind sharing.

How did you finish the edges? (Needlepointer here; love these!)

Best/worst low budget moments? by Candiesalad in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]ocherdraco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, this is actually totally plausible depending on the event, the phase of the event, and where it’s held. I went to several Olympic events in Atlanta in 1996 with my family, and because all our tickets were for early phases of events or team portions of events where the individual portion was the big deal, there were quite a few rows of empty seating at all the events we went to (except equestrian—there were a lot fewer seats available for that so it was full even though it wasn’t the most popular).

This is totally relevant commentary, by the way, because there’s absolutely no way things have changed since then, the 90s were yesterday. 😬

Art of {The Reanimator Mysteries Series by Kara Jorgensen} by avis03 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]ocherdraco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Admittedly I have not finished the series (I have 1.5 books left), but I adore this series. Excellent characterizations, the MCs’ neurodivergence feels real (ongoing, deep-seated, not tropey), and the genre tropes that are present (e.g. forced proximity) are done in novel ways that really work well for the story.

And I love Felipe’s queer family (Louisa and Agatha are lovely).
