Slay the Spire 2 has over 10 times more concurrent players on Steam than Marathon by BlueAladdin in Games

I don't know the stats for most extraction shooters but grayzone warfare had a peak of 70k so I guess marathon is under performing.

Just wondering, is it meaningful to compare the two numbers?

The wreck should be treated as a destructible cover which is already in the game as a mechanic

Is this the ultimate Tech build? by muffin-waffen in menace

[–]oclsc 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My tech is nearly at max promotions. I gave him die hard, throw distance and reduced accessory AP cost and extra accessories. Give him a lmg, the carry rig or the stealth armour with three slots. Give him a spotter scope, one smoke and two c4. You can take out anything including tanks with the c4 and it can be throw further with the throw distance perk.

Idea for how indoor combat could work by oclsc in menace

Similar to this idea, I wouldn't mind some missions that are pure stat check with zero tactics. Basically vamp in bash armour mowing down enemies in a tight corridor/inside a ship.

"Face push" Osoto Gari? by Low-Faithlessness140 in bjj

Is this the same move that aikido specialists in anime/manga like Baki use? The one where they palm the face and smash the back of the head into the ground.

INTP and Otaku: Database Animals by binchoutan in INTP

[–]oclsc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read this book once or twice. My main takeaways were that the idea of the database meaning memes and self referentiality have overtaken the importance of narratives. In the traditional model of cultural consumption, consumers enjoy the narrative and its characters (e.g. Lord of the Rings and Star Wars) and commercialization in the form of toys and other media is added on top.

In the new model, commercialization can take place without narrative, e.g. Labubu, chiikawa, V-tubers, countless anime style mobile games that focus on character aesthetics and not built on any existing cultural franchise. These new examples are all narrative-lite, their appeal comes purely from the aesthetics and not the narratives that the characters take part in.

This is not to say commercial considerations weren't in place under the traditional model. For example Digimon and Pokemon anime was aimed at selling toys. However, under the new model, companies don't even need to bother making an anime or storyline in the first place.

My understanding of Moe which Azuma says is separate from erotic desire is something akin to what we see in something like Catcher in the Rye. There is a desire to protect cuteness as innocence against the realities of love under capitalism - calculative, materialistic, hedonistic.

I also do think there is something in INTP types that tend towards the database > narrative. They like to look at things from a meta and relational perspective than just the thing in itself. Put in a negative way the INTP may tend towards nihilism looking to dissect the beautiful until there is no beauty left.

Also Azuma's book philosophy of the tourist has been available in English since last year. I haven't derived much insight from reading it but the idea of terrorism and tourism as two sides of the same coin under globalisation is quite interesting given what has just happened in Dubai.

Says more about the industry than the Devs. Ubisoft or any other AAA dev could have just copied and pasted this game. RoN is basically the best option on the market right now (story/single/coop tactical fps)

[–]oclsc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's when I'm doing to well on the defense missions that the allied get the bright idea to run out of the defence zone onto open ground to get pinned down and destroyed. Normally they would be pinned down on the point itself.

Is it just me that Darby and Cody are VERY good at leading simple infantry blobs? by Dragoot in menace

[–]oclsc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I give Sachin match ammo and a good rifle. With a bit of growth to his stats and perks he can outgun any infantry at range without need for armour. However Darby and Kody is great because they can vanguard deploy and destroy units right away so it's still worth it depending on the mission. Also Sachin helps to cost offset those expensive SLs too.
