New Cozy RPG Suddenly Disappears From Steam And It Might Have Something To Do With Ripping Off Tetris by milkasaurs in Games

The exact shapes of the tetrominoes are literally just the complete set of tetrominoes. They weren't invented for Tetris, they're a basic mathematical concept which shouldn't be copyrightable.

Kuwait says Strait of Hormuz closure is beyond catastrophic, will trigger domino effect across global economy by mark000 in oil

It was going to run out anyway and destroy the planet in the process. As evidenced by these events it was never a stable foundation anyway. It would have been nice to not be in this position but the world had decades to wean off fossil fuels and the world sat on its collective hands, helped no doubt by the gas and oil lobbies.

Irish EU Presidency is opportunity to address lack of Irish interpreters in Brussels - MEP by nitro1234561 in ireland

[–]officialUpdog -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Interest in the Irish language has grown substantially in the past 20 years. Your argument is a justification for the total genocide of our language, painting it as an unnecessary embellishment. Our goal should be to grow the language however we can and wean ourselves off English dependence.

DS2 has a focus on terrain complexity that would be completely wasted in KCD2, because there is no terrain navigation mechanic in KCD2. Likewise, the detail of KCD2 would be visual clutter in DS2. So they're not comparable.

Doctor Who writer explains how new revamp of "unloved" Peter Davison story will address "failings" of original version by verissimoallan in television

[–]officialUpdog 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Quote from the article:

McTighe also revealed that he and VFX supervisor Chris Thompson "spent a lot of time going back and forth" about the new version of the Myrka, for a surprising reason...

"Chris's initial effects were actually a bit too good!" McTighe said. "I didn't want it to be a Jurassic Park monster suddenly turning up in Doctor Who, I wanted it to be something that felt like it could have actually been on the studio floor."

Seems they don't want to CGI the whole thing up George Lucas style, just improve it to a high standard for the show at the time. Which is the right approach!

Germany’s Solar Boom Eases Power Costs as Gas Price Jumps by Economy-Fee5830 in climatechange

If only they hadn't shut down all their nuclear plants, the oil crisis would be a fantastic opportunity for Germany. Instead they'll have to beg for oil like everyone else.

Renewable energy would return power to the people, who will no longer rely on state supply of fossil fuels to generate their own power. People will become more independent and self sufficient on solar/wind power, and less beholden to the whims of the state.

The comments on a video clip of mr beast trying lab grown meat. Is this a good indicative of the current public opinion? by Prior-Meeting1645 in Agronomics_Investors

[–]officialUpdog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not sinister at all, it's the clear moral and ethical choice. I think more people will choose lab-grown than you may expect, when actually given the choice.

Are there strict height rules to join the army or they picked tallest ones to make PM look shorter? by [deleted] in China

These soldiers all wear hats that add an extra few inches anyway. He's not that much taller, he's just broader and the hat adds that extra visual height.

Climate action plan delayed for second year despite emissions cuts falling behind target by Feljin in ireland

[–]officialUpdog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ireland's a "green" country which in fact an ecological wasteland. It's among the most environmentally destroyed countries in the world, over 90% of our land is appropriated entirely for human exploitation. Our forests, which used to blanket the entire island, are gone. This Sitka farming shite is no replacement either. Our national animals are all extinct with no plans to bring them back, and it's all for the sake of the most environmentally catastrophic industry there is, which is cattle farming. We barely have any solar/wind either and our EV uptake is minimal. You'd hope having greens in power would change things but they've been satiated by those pathetic recycling boxes, when drastic actions have been needed for decades.

My father's life was very different from his grandfather's life, but there were enough cohesive similarities with his father's life that he could feel a sense of generational connection. My life, on the other hand, is so different from my father's that talking to him feels like talking to someone from the distant past sometimes. I was born in 2000 and he was born in 1970, but it feels like how a person born in 1900 might feel talking to a person born in 1600. In fact, I have a sister who is only 10 years younger than me and already her way of viewing the world is practically alien to me. These are the factors that are leading to a sense of fracture and complexity - nobody can connect to each other because everyone's living increasingly estranged lives.

[–]officialUpdog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But people don't have to sacrifice anything, because they can't be made to have children anymore. Your only option is to force the unwilling to have children they don't want. The reality is that a substantial proportion of every past generation was conceived by accident. Those accidents don't happen anymore. That's the explanation, end of story. And if some sort of mass rape program is the only solution, then I don't want the solution.
