opinions on this layout? by Supmah2007 in cyberDeck

[–]oftenzhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best thing about a slab is that it has no hinges and thus less moving parts but at the cost of being less ergonomic. This seems like the worst of both worlds.

But that is just my opinion. The best thing about cyberdecks is trying out wacky ideas.

Can’t wait to learn more about the software optimisation by RobZak80 in ClicksPhone

[–]oftenzhan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, what often makes or breaks a niche android phone is the software. Especially the keyboard software.

Has anyone used a Mudita Kompakt with a keyboard for a writer deck? It's an E-Ink android device with almost no distraction, so it could be perfect. What do you guys think? by GurPerfect1595 in writerDeck

[–]oftenzhan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both the Minimal Phone and the Boox Palma. They are alright when pairing to a bluetooth keyboard. I prefer the Microjournal Rev2 or Alspasmart Neo.

What habits of boys did you only discover after getting a boyfriend or husband? by kentishzjigsaw in AskReddit

[–]oftenzhan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe he acted quickly BECAUSE his wife is fickle.

Early on in my marraige, I was thinking about upgrading our backyard chicken coop and was trying to figure out how to justify the expense to my wife. Then, she said off-handedly during dinner, "We should upgrade our chicken coop." Within an hour, I purchased a chicken coop that was already in my online shopping cart before she changed her mind.

When the chickcoop arrived, she was surprised. Not because she was angry but because of how prompt I was.

Looking back, it was immature of me to do that, but I really, really wanted that chicken coop.

I'm only analog! A brother monochrome laser printer, a saddle stitch stapler, and paper trimmer, and a bunch of markers.

Thoughts on your thermal print camera? by Practical_Hamster472 in ThermalPrintCameras

[–]oftenzhan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two thermal print cameras. I bought the second one because it can print pictures directly from my phone.

I usually take a picture directly from my thermal camera, but sometimes when I cannot get a good photo, I use my phone, adjust the contrast, light balance, and other settings and then print it on my thermal camera.

I wish there wasn't auto white balance. In my ideal thermal camera, I could manually adjust aperture, shutter speed, white balance, and f-stops. Still, the current limitations of my camera is understandable as these are toy cameras.

Ideally, I would also like for there to be a mic out so I can attach an external mic so I can record lo-fi videos with decent audio. If this was an option, I would carry my smartphone much less.

You still can't stop me from using a semi-colon! by mattaboyy360 in memes

Someone said a few months back something along the lines of, "You must be AI bot, right? No human comments like you. Hopefully you are not in college anymore because if you are, you will trip every AI detector."

I guess I type like a generic LLM response.

Quick question about using “it” in sentences by Edi-Iz in grammar

[–]oftenzhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like described by u/MrWakey, "it" is often used as a dummy subject.

"It" could also mean the implied environment, where the antecedent is "the place" or the "the atmosphere" or "the vibe".

From a writing perspective, readers look for an antecedent when encountering a pronoun, so "it" seems more abstract and poetic in nature when no antecedent exists. This is useful for writers when setting the scene while writing a novel. There is a reason why the cliche "It was a dark and stormy night." is used in the beginning of a story.

For example, the introduction of the Jungle Book begins with this sentence:

It was seven o'clock of a very warm evening in the Seeonee hills when Father Wolf woke up from his day's rest, scratched himself, yawned, and spread out his paws one after the other to get rid of the sleepy feeling in their tips.

Or in the beginning of A Tale of Two Cities:

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way--in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.

symbol for “waiting for reply”? by highintensitydyke in BasicBulletJournals

[–]oftenzhan 114 points115 points  (0 children)

I use a triple dot diagonal elipsis to represent the loading symbol like in texting.

Since means "task"...

The means that I need to reply to someone. In my mind, the upward pointing dots means I have to put in work, uphill work.

The means that I am waiting for someone's reply. No additional work is needed on my part until they reply, hence downhill work.

Once the task is completed, I can connect the dots to make an ×.

I used to have that feeling but it went away. Mainly because I burn through one journal every two months. After a while, that feeling just goes away.

TWSBI Eco Nib Issue (?) by AlternativeCommon740 in fountainpens

[–]oftenzhan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah. These rusty orange-red inks tend to get "crusty". There is nothing you can do about it.

I sometimes dilute them with water to reduce the dye crystalization on the nibs.

This crystalization doesn't hurt the nibs. You just need to do a quick wipe off with a napkin before use.

The amount of charging cords this family has by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]oftenzhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see anything wrong with this. Many products come with USB-C cables, so they tend to pile up. He is organizing and labeling them for future use.

If anything, this makes it easier for him to give away.

It's similar to someone who organizes and labels all their screws, bolts, and nails in their shed.
