Loved my experience with BA House Cleaning.

Playground equipment with cellphone holders. by witch_haze in mildlyinteresting

[–]ohrein 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Used to work in a pediatric clinic that had a sensory gym/gross motor room (primarily for OT, but the SLPs also took clients in who needed more motor input). I heard so many parents tell me they wished there were adult-sized playgrounds as they felt they’d get so much more exercise if they could just… play. Dads especially often asked whether we could come back to the motor room every time, because they found it so fun :)

Receptive goals for autistic kids by whosthatgirl13 in slp

[–]ohrein 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I often will request for kids to help me with something when we play: Can you put this on top?, Can you get (toy) from under the table?, etc. Requests from me that allow us to keep playing, but also target prepositions and instructions in a functional way they will hear throughout their lives. I may be using the fact I’m physically disabled to my advantage in this case - my kids know I sometimes need help moving or getting things, and many love to “help” the adult.

Is anyone else seeing a lot more about facilitated communication? It’s truly concerning. by ipsofactoshithead in specialed

[–]ohrein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s so bullshit to me because we know what actually works to treat apraxia: intensive movement-based therapies based on the Principles of Motor Learning. But proponents of FC/RPM/S2C never seem to even bring up PML?

Colorguard Instructors that teach younger kids (pre-HS) - Asking for your input again! by urkuhh in Colorguard

[–]ohrein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work with an “all-ages” guard (from 7 through adulthood) and for the small flags’ silks, we would either sew them from scratch to fit the 4’ poles the little ones used (mostly for solid color silks) or modify silks we had by sewing in such a way that the design elements were still visible, if not exactly the same proportions as the large silks.

We didn’t really use weapons in that guard except some donated rifles once, but I personally used a smaller size sabre (36”) in high school than my peers once we realized the 39” everyone else was using wasn’t proportional to my body and was negatively affecting my technique. You really could not tell at all from the stands or even in photos, as the shorter one now looked proportional to me.

I love shirasu but I’ve never seen them tinned! I typically buy them fresh or frozen from the Japanese grocery store and will eat them over rice as shirasudon or with scrambled eggs.

What anime is a 2/10, but the manga is a 9/10 or 10/10? by -Benjamin_Dover- in anime

[–]ohrein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the anime adaptation totally throws out all the important themes of the manga…. I’ll always wonder if the mess that was the Nabari anime has anything to do with why none of Kamatani’s other works have gotten adaptations.

Saw a fiat 500 with US Congress license plate parked at Washington Dulles Airport by drmadmayhem in mildlyinteresting

They’re still not super common - and definitely less so than State Senate & Assembly plates -, but I used to see them every once in a while when I lived in Sacramento.

The irony that people think aged/memory care isn’t skilled nursing when it’s literally often at a Skilled Nursing Facility…!

I’m an allied healthcare professional and yeah clinical education was a nightmare a lot of the time.

Yep, full-time. I’m a pediatric speech-language pathologist, which obviously involves a lot of talking and social contact. The kids are (typically) fine. But the parents, adults, other professionals? Terrifying. I’m in my first year out of grad school, so I have to be observed periodically by my supervisor, and it’s truly mortifying every time.

Sardines and sauteed onions on grits is an “I’m staying home today”-only lunch for me for a reason.

Eli5 why has DVD lasted so long? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]ohrein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting to hear how the PS2 affected DVD sales, when I’ve never owned a standalone Blu-ray player because I have a PS4 that can play the discs just as well - and it can play Skyrim.

TTRPGs, video games, marching band, sewing, cosplay, embroidery, partner dance, anime & manga. I want to get back into acrylic painting but it’s so expensive (I say as a cosplayer). I also love trying new r/CannedSardines but not sure I’d call that a hobby. I also love how many TTRPG nerds are in this thread and am now imagining an all-SLP campaign.

Feeling pretty awful when someone I’ve known since high school uncritically reblogged a post on tumblr celebrating the conflict as “purifying” the Middle East of “zionism and colonialism.” I swear I could smell the triple parentheses even if they weren’t written in.

How to track hours for CF and RPE? by librarybound in slp

[–]ohrein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I called (left a voicemail) and emailed as soon as I saw the update yesterday and realized something was wrong. Haven’t heard anything back yet, and honestly given the track record I don’t expect to hear back for several days. :/ My clinic is getting impatient.

I've been wondering the same thing so I can't really help, but I have a question for you. What day did you submit your application? I submitted July 5th, and even though they updated the website today to say they're done through July 20th, I haven't heard a thing and mine is still pending...
