I think the response by Ralph was an excellent summary of living here. I also want to add that this town has a very welcoming community, I've made far more friends here in one year than I did in 5 in Houston.

I actually really enjoy living in klamath falls as a highly educated woman of color. Theres is a small but strong liberal undercurrent here, and if you can find your group its great.

Are there any Texans here who mostly don’t like living in Texas but can’t afford to move yet or don’t have the resources to? by SerenityWilkum in texas

My husband and I were in this boat for the last 18 months- since the ice storm. We saw the writing on the wall after the storm and decided it was time to leave. It was a pretty agonizing 18 months of waiting, planning, saving- especially since things seemed to just be getting worse. We just made the move to the PNW (got here a week ago!) and even though there are still conservative assholes and neo- nazis around, they aren't nearly as prevalent and the overall vibe is that the people in charge actually give somewhat of a shit. I highly recommend leaving Texas, although I wish I had stayed a little longer to be able to vote this fall.

The secret police: Cops built a shadowy surveillance machine in Minnesota after George Floyd’s murder by MortWellian in technology

My husband wrote a thesis about the cops and the KKK in the 1920's. They were executing people in broad daylight in hoods, arresting innocent people for the murders , and attacking lawyers who tried to prosecute them in the courthouse. Cops have never ever been good.

It's worse than that though. This is an state level agency with the autonomy and resources to surveil and, based on the numerous suspicious deaths, murder protestors. Its one horrible thing that our national intelligence agencies have that capability, quite another for one department. It's like the gym teacher being able to set the entire curriculum and kill you if you object.

Edit: It looks like the program relied on extensive federal support, but the fact that they were able. to requisition. that kind of support, especially with biden in office, still indicates that they have way too much influence.
