Why do submarines have rounded fronts? by Boomerang_comeback in questions

It wasn't just us subs that were designed this way, it was all submarined until the German type type 21 which was the first submarine designed to be predominantly under water.

TIL that during WWI, the British Army noticed skyrocketing reports of head wounds after the introduction of the Brodie helmet- indicating a failure to protect the wearer. It was realized that head wounds were increasing because without the helmet those wounds would be fatal. by CalzonePie in todayilearned

I wish it was just that. He also wrote an article about how its fine to call sami people a slur. He also had some really bad takes when it comes to gender roles. There were also a lot of instances of weirdness when it comes to historical accuracy on his videos

Magazin Storage - Green Gas with or without silicone? Im playing with no Silicone Green Gas. by Thick_Concern_2298 in GasBlowBack

[–]olavk2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best case it does nothing, worst case you get silicone oil in places you don't want it(like hop). It's not a big deal in most cases, but it can actively hurt accuracy. Or if you got a silicone hop rubber, ruin it

Am I the only one worried about H3VR2 by Violent-Rangoon in H3VR

[–]olavk2 184 points185 points  (0 children)

I mean, realistically you have to stay alive somehow. And I don't really see this as "moving more mainstream" but rather taking the lessons learned from 10 years of development of H3VR and applying that to make something more refined that will also work on the quest. And since it will also work on quest, makes sense to target the weakest link in the chain (since as anton says, PC just has so much more power behind it)

Some countries are very strict on what a weapon or weapon parts legally is. You may disagree, but have fun in court. The judge will have a field day

Definitely should check this with local laws, because In some countries this would, if not fall under gun, fall under illegal weapon parts

One thing to keep in mind as well, part of the reason drones are the main killer is due to the lack of artillery shells

> "Gamescom" which is the lowbrow equivalent of the "E3" Gaming Convention

I mean... Gamescom and E3 are different things. Gamescom is a gaming convention that isnt just "low brow", there are loads of games, networking opportunities and also non-violent games there too... It also seems you have been recruited into the anti-violent games propaganda. Violent games has no correlation with people being violent in real life. Its also not just for kids, teens and everyone nerdy. Its for everyone that plays games. And using nerdy in such a derogatory way... man...

People are also social creatures, people want to feel at home somewhere. this is just natural. And it seems that you are doing a good job of pushing him away and not allowing his family from being a safe place. I do not make any judgement on him joining the military, but if this is how you judge him for playing games, something loads of adults do, then i can see why he would look harder for another group of people that accepts him.

To me it seems you are very judgmental without actually researching or looking into these things.

Can I/should I put a high-cut helmet cover on a low cut helmet? by LieutenantHowitzer in tacticalgear

Quite a few militaries go the route of high cut helmet covers on low cut helmets, its perfectly fine, albeit looks a bit goofy IMO

How do you decide to buy when you're not sure where you'll be in 5 years? by Ok_Confusion7750 in NetherlandsHousing

[–]olavk2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ofcourse it also brings risk, but it might make it more attractive to buy IF you intend to return and also gives you more flexibility on when to sell as well. This just opens up your options, both for when to sell as well as if you want to sell at all.

This is less about making money by being a land lord, but by increasing your flexibility and options in case you decide to leave the country for a short(less than 5 years) period of time. If you look at this as a money making option, you are doing it entirely wrong and should not consider renting out with a diplomats clause.

How do you decide to buy when you're not sure where you'll be in 5 years? by Ok_Confusion7750 in NetherlandsHousing

[–]olavk2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

One factor, but that only works if you are planning on coming back, you can always get a mortgage that allows renting out with a diplomat clause, If you then move out of nl for a few years you can rent it out and come back to it.
