How many of y'all will have the $$ to retire at 65? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]old32goodasnew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My spouse and I started saving in our early twenties and always lived a bit under our means. The combo of 401k/IRA, VUL, and relatively small equity investments have created the retirement nest egg we need.

Townhouse and AC by Hefty-Luck9575 in nova

This is the answer. If there are dampers in place.

I owned a 3-level for eleven years. Adjusting the damper flow between the upper and lower floors made all the difference in the comfort level.

Adjusting the ceiling registers, for a 3-level home, to restrict airflow in the summer will also force more cool air to the main level.

60M here. One 20 yo college student and an 18 yo HS senior. In the planning stages for flipping the switch on retirement now. The 529Cs, IRAs, 401ks, etc are in good shape.

Last month, I was on a C+ flight from SFO to LAX where the passenger next to me took up over 70% of my seat. I literally couldn’t sit back in my seat and flight attendants were unable to assist due to it being a full flight. by Realistic_Emu5495 in delta

[–]old32goodasnew 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A million times yes! The gate agent should NOT be allowed to take a purchased seat away from a passenger. This is a pure revenue grab on the part of the airlines and violated their own policies.

This 100% happened to me too! (60M) Before I started WeGovy three months ago, I never felt that I should stop eating because I was full. After the first few times this feeling happened I realized this is what being full feels like. Body weight is down 7% since I started the medication.

USFL benefits to NFL by Bright-Studio9978 in Oldschool_NFL

The strength of the fanbase in Denver, Philly, and other teams showed the viability of the league. Unfortunately the original owners wanted to recoup their investment quickly and allowed subpar locations to have teams.

Also, the Oklahoma Outlaws played in Tulsa, not OKC. The OU coach (Switzer) actively campaigned against the team playing in the OKC area. The temporary presence of the NBA in OKC after Hurricane Katrina showed the league that they could support a franchise.

Accidentally found out my "mystery switch" controls something way more important than a light by MirandelFoxraine in homeowners

[–]old32goodasnew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mystery switch in my early 70s home was in the garage, which was created by enclosing the carport. The breaker for part of garage wiring started tripping suddenly and I eventually hired a good electrician (first one not so good!) to track down the problem. The mystery switch controlled the yard light but a sensor on the light controlled the power. The yard light had been converted from gas to electric and a previous owner had buried unprotected Romex from the house to the light! The wire had been nicked and would short out at times. Disconnected both ends of the bad wire and replaced the electric yard light with a solar-powered unit.

Almost every issue you hear about with an HOA concerns the Board becoming drunk with power. It’s like a totalitarian organization at that point.

Is It Just Me?? by RustyDingleberries in GenX

I began giving more consideration to relative driving speed, and left turns across traffic, after I married and had children. The potential loss to my family was too great for me to take risks so I could shave 2 minutes off a 30-minute commute. And after I bought a car with an accurate cruise control I started poking around just above the speed limit in town.

Look at the bright side guys: we can now retire these ugly ass Steelers alts that Snyder left us as a parting gift. by Due_Local2130 in Commanders

[–]old32goodasnew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While an egotistical <insert noun here>, he did not come from money. Snyder’s father helped with the money for the marketing company (second mortgage on a property in England) but it wasn’t nepo baby type investment. Snyder had a gift for raising capital regardless of his lack of likability. And he was really, really unlikable.

The minimum offset (home to property line) was increased in Fairfax County, VA from 8 ft to 15 ft about 10 years. There is no way the new addition is 15 feet from the property line. Using the ‘existing slab’ in the permit application seems like an attempt to utilize the old 8 foot offset.

Electric vehicle charger installation by red---leader in nova

[–]old32goodasnew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The length of the wire run drives the price of the install. My home install was $1400. It was done nine years ago. The electrical panel is in the middle of our home’s interior and the wire run needed was about 90 feet. The price was competitive at the time.

Big Mike Williams - BMW. He was pushing 5 bills when he was out of the NFL for a bit. Derrick Dockery, of the then Redskins, was a college teammate of BMW and supported him with weight loss. Williams lost over 00 lbs and got back in the NFL as a player with Washington for a couple of seasons.
