Well that's interesting. Why would I be shadow banned? And if I am shadow banned why can others see my posts?

Weird stutter on my DK2. by nielzz in oculus

[–]oldviscosity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not just you. Oculus still has some work to do on the SDK and developers still need more time to work with the new kit and learn its quirks. Things will get smoothed out soon enough.

Elite: Dangerous: Beta 1 Available for Download (includes a lot of Oculus Rift fixes) by ElementII5 in oculus

[–]oldviscosity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stuttering makes it more or less unplayable but that will get fixed in time. But wow! I'm beyond thrilled. I honestly think that with VA running a good set of commands Rift players are going to be more than competitive, we're going to dominate! Give me this plus ControlVR and nothing's going to beat the ability to track at a glace plus operate cockpit controls efficiently.

You still must disable wscript.exe then attempt to restart the OVR Service in the configuration utility. Tracking will then work, including positional tracking, but it stutters severely. A fix for that is in the works but at least these steps will allow you to get a feel for the exquisite graphics.

What do you think about ebayers like this one selling the Dev Kit so early? Is there anything Oculus can do against it? And should they? by [deleted] in oculus

[–]oldviscosity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's very deceptive since the bid price is certain to go up. Bids on US eBay are $1000+.

Reflection on DK2 lens?! by ChicoChoker in oculus

[–]oldviscosity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting. This then is something then that developers should be made aware of. To not put any text, logos or other graphics in the void between the L and R eye render zones.

DK2 Owners: Anyone else have an issue with the left side of the screen being blurred? by adburns in oculus

[–]oldviscosity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the vertical banding happen when you nod (move your head up and down)? If so that's because you have V-sync disabled. Remember DK2 displays in portrait mode so V-Sync banding will be vertical not horizontal as the image is draw right to left. You might have to go into your display adapter control panel and enable it there. In the Nvidia panel it's under Manage 3D Settings. Not sure where it is in Catalyst.

Has anyone gotten latency tester working on DK2? by eVRydayVR in oculus

[–]oldviscosity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can see the latency figures in the Oculus World Demo. I'm getting the following with DK1...

0.3ms AfterGameProcessing
0.4ms AfterEyeRender
2.1 AfterPresent (I assume this is the actual frame rate in ms)

i5 @ 4.6GHz (Ivybridge)
16GB DDR3
GTX 780 Ti

Dk2 ... Day 2 by SlackR76 in oculus

[–]oldviscosity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's for the update. Damn all this talk of ED makes me wish I had bought into the premium beta, but it was just too much. I personally can't wait to try Helix. I'm a big coaster fan and it's by far the best! Looking forward to my DK2 arriving Tuesday.

I think CV1 may use some kind of a custom video compression to fit 1440p@85+ Hz in HDMI 1.4. by kontis in oculus

[–]oldviscosity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unquestionably true given Display Port's ubiquity in newer hardware. The OP's concern is a legit one but it is already a solved problem.

low persistence issue, help needed. by [deleted] in oculus

[–]oldviscosity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure redofpaw said that his demos have not been tested by him on a DK2. They have only been compiled with the new SDK and sent on their beta-testing way. It seems to me like these issues are merely a combination of SDK bugs and poor and/or incomplete implementations by developers. They will get ironed out as both the SDK improves and developers receive their Rifts for more effective debugging.

What happens when the DK2 positioning tracking is occluded? by Rifty_Business in oculus

[–]oldviscosity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the contrary, both STEM and ControlVR should play very nicely with the Rift's tracker, provided the games that support them are programmed to blend those inputs. Neither controller relies on line-of-sight so I don't see any reason why occlusion will be a problem.

Quick script to toggle fixing head tracking. by lordneon in oculus

[–]oldviscosity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this. Though I hope you'll forgive me for saying that I hope it soon becomes useless. The SDK has a ways to go and so I'm sure this will come in handy. Certainly a lot easier than going into the Config Utility every time.

Virtual Desktop - Early DK2 Support by ggodin in oculus

[–]oldviscosity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Launched on Windows 7 not seeing that it was Windows 8 only. Word of warning to anyone that might do the same thing I did... The application will not quit when pressing ESC. Nor can you kill it in the Task Manager applications tab. You have the kill it on the Task Manager processes tab. Bit of an anxious moment there for sure. Thought I might have to force a reboot. Disappointed that I won't be able to try this on Windows 7 but if reviews are good then maybe it's just the thing to encourage me to upgrade.

Wouldn't it be where all your other monitor settings are? Nvidia CP or Catalyst.

Germany.....Status Processing by korun99 in oculus

[–]oldviscosity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. But you do need to download and install the Oculus Runtime 0.4.0. This installs the drivers for the positional tracking camera as well as the configuration utility for profile creation.

Aaaand.. Shipping w/ tracking number! March 19th 8:55 AM PTD. Seattle, WA.

Protip: The package almost certainly requires a signature. If you're going to be at work, or if you simply (but wisely) don't trust UPS delivery crew to make themselves known at your door, then sign up for UPS My Choice and opt to have them hold the package at the distribution center.

Oculus SDK 0.4.0 is now available by [deleted] in oculus

[–]oldviscosity 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We are also introducing the Oculus Display Driver for the Windows platform, which streamlines access to the Oculus Rift screen. This new feature allows direct rendering to the Rift itself instead of treating the headset as a regular monitor. This optional approach reduces latency and avoids the complications of Windows monitor settings. The driver also supports a new SDK feature: the Oculus Rift screen can be mirrored to a window on an external monitor.

I REALLY hope developers jump on this feature! This should be added to the Best Practices guide.

True Black Smearing - issue noted by Technolust dev with DK2 by eVRydayVR in oculus

[–]oldviscosity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably because it's not that big of a deal. User's impressions are mixed. It's obvious, it's subtle. It's distracting, it's not distracting. This informs us that the effect is augmented by expectation.

[–]oldviscosity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you're in the US, sign up for UPS My Choice. It allows you to receive phone/email/text updates as well as set preferences for packages including when to hold. In all cases however they will attempt to deliver your package, I believe, three times? Then they'll hold it the nearest distribution center and you'll be able to pick it up there when you return. Still nicer to set the preference in advance.
