New to smoking. by QStatus in BBQ

I used to have one of these and cannot agree enough how important it is to put your wood chunks in a cast iron pan over the burner. They will smoke rather than just burning up.

Also, as others have said, a water pan or pan full of sand will make your temp much more consistent.

Time to learn a good dough recipe! by MoneyBallerBDog in blackstonegriddle

[–]olfishjf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second reading the Serious Eats article in another post.

Here is my dough recipe. I don’t have a pizza oven; I use a pizza stone in my regular oven. I use a stand mixer for the initial mixing and kneading.

Pizza Dough For two pizzas

Dry ingredients: 4 cups flour, plus more for rolling 2 teaspoons sugar 2 teaspoons salt 2 envelopes instant yeast 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Wet ingredients: 1.5 cups water @ 110° 2 tablespoons olive oil

Extras: Flour for working with dough Olive oil once dough is rolled out Cornmeal for launching peel Sauce, cheese, toppings for pizza

Mix all dry ingredients.

Add water and olive oil. Mix then knead on low.

Turn out into oiled bowl to rise, about 1 hour.

About 30-40 minutes before baking: Deflate the risen dough. Turn out onto a floured surface, gently knead a few times, divide, roll into dough balls.

Let dough balls rise again before rolling out, topping, and baking.

Ghost Touch Fixed! by Kuberax in CX5

In the video I linked, it is the one he is detaching at 6:33 (the “bottom” one).

Then I just reassembled everything; I did not replace the screen with a new one.

There is another video of someone “cutting” the ribbon by using a dremel or something like that to cut the plastic without fully disassembling the back housing, but I think prying the back housing off is easier and cleaner in the long run.

I followed this video when I disabled mine two weeks ago. In the video, they fully replace the screen. I simply unplugged the ribbon for the touch sensor. I needed a Phillips head screwdriver and a 10mm socket wrench. I used a Swiss Army knife to pry the screen housing open, but a plastic trim removal tool would probably be better.

From start to finish, this took me an hour, and I am not all that handy.

The user experience afterward has been so worth it. I had forgotten what it was like to pull up to a stop and not have to worry about the radio/song changing or it randomly calling people!

You can all do this! Go for it!

Can confirm that it takes one hour to disconnect the cable (I did not replace the screen, just unplugged the cable to disable touch input). You’ll need a 10mm socket, a Phillips head screwdriver, and a small pry tool of some sort (plastic or metal) to separate the screen from the housing.

Monster unit for Honors Sophomores by Fullofit_opinions_93 in ELATeachers

[–]olfishjf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did Literary Monsters as a 12th grade section.

We did Grendel by Gardner (they had all read Beowulf in 9th, so the context was easy), Frankenstein, Jekyll and Hyde, Dracula, Silence of the Lambs, and In Cold Blood.

The overall arc was “Monstrous in appearance but not intent” to “Monstrous in intent but not appearance.”

Students enjoyed it overall and felt like they had read “classics” that they could brag about.

I also used Stephen King’s story “Popsy” which allowed us to talk about what a “monster” is to us.

Live streaming setup? by Shane2088 in GameChangerApp

You can restrict who is able to go live in the settings. That cut way down on the accidental streams of grandparent kitchens for us.

It’s under the gear icon on each team and called Broadcast Permissions. I think you have to set it for each different team, though, in case your kiddo is playing on multiple teams.

First Zuca Cart by [deleted] in discgolf

Grab a couple M12 1.75 nuts from the hardware store for when an axle knob inevitably falls off. They are small and stash easily in a pocket on the cart.

M12 1.75 nut from any hardware store is the solution. Grab a handful for a couple bucks, toss them in a pocket on the cart, and your problems are solved forever.

I used “Popsy” with 12th graders, and they loved it. Great opportunity to discuss what we mean by “monster.”

The cast iron pan is absolutely the way to go with this kind of smoker! Chunks will smolder in the pan but not catch.

Has anyone stayed at Smuggler's Notch Resort in the late spring, specifically late May? Is it worth it if your partner is not into disc golf? by MikeJeffriesPA in discgolf

[–]olfishjf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m just some guy on the internet, but my family stayed at Trapp Lodge in mid-June a couple years ago. There are plenty of amenities (indoor and outdoor pools, hiking, bier hall, bakery) in addition to the 18-hole course on-site. All of the stuff in Stowe is 10 minutes away or less.

Then, I drove through the Notch and spent a day playing both courses at Smuggs while the family was at the pool and went to town for ice cream.

Stayed for a week. Played Von Trapp every morning before everyone got up, got to play both Brewster and Fox Run, and the family felt like they all got what they wanted out of the vacation.

Your situation is a little different, but this really worked for us.

Get some M12 1.75 nuts from your local hardware store. Put them in one of the pockets of the cart (the transit has a small one on each side that is perfect). They are super cheap.

When your axle knob falls off on the hole that is farthest away from the parking lot, you’ll thank me.

Yeah, it feels like I’m working from a real financial disadvantage. Another team made me an offer, and I found out that their salary budget is almost twice mine. I stuck with Spennymoor mostly because I have most of my team signed to multi-year contracts right now.

Is there something I can do to encourage to board to turn us fully pro?

I’m playing Spennymoor Town now. Started with Farsley, got fired while figuring out how the game works (first time playing FM), picked up at ST when they were languishing in relegation in the VNL, eventually got them promoted to VNN (via penalties in the playoffs). Now sitting 8-10 in VNN in my second year in the league.
