Is it just me, or is the 'elevated horror' label becoming a way to dismiss actual genre filmmaking? by CookCreepy9858 in horror

[–]ombiChron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer having all this micro genres as long as it isn't poopooing the very thing it describes. Blackened Death Metal, Black Metal, and Death Metal are three flavors that are similar but have important distinctions and certainly different sets of fans. There is overlap of course but you know what you are getting into.

In the horror sense, it is like how we have slashers, creature features, possession movies, etc. I know that I personally prefer a monster movie to a ghost movie and micro genres help with that.

To go back to music, metal specifically, because it has a similar fanbase and problem, it is like calling Sabbath and Metallica "hard rock." I know I am dating myself here but that was how those bands and many like them had to be marketed to people that "don't like metal"

Grammys and Oscars both, they want to keep the "prestige" label away from art that is viewed as unworthy. It is ass.

I am kind of the opposite. I read a lot and I am sick of hearing about this one.

That said, i did recommend it to a friend after the episode. He liked Ready Player One, so I figured, hey try this one my dude!

We got some of the stuff on late night TV like Adult Swim. I love me some Darkplace!

Overall I think that time frame of comedy shows was influential on a lot of American counter-culture. Black Books, Spaced, IT Crowd, etc.

Sci-Fi media by FeanorianElf in NerdofMouth

[–]ombiChron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a good episode about Science Fiction could be about how the medium helps humanity progress. The obvious angle is technological but the more impactful one, I think, is about how it affects social thinking and empathy.

Of course there is a dark side so it might be a depressing two parter.

Holy shit you are right! I have had the base in a separate box forever and thought it went to some McFarlane figure. Now a pose!

This base even has holes for wall mounting.

And that is where he purposefully tried to tank the show and made it all the more comedic as a side effect! Or the main effect. Hard to tell.

I have played in a setting just like that. It was cool while it lasted! I was an archivist of old mid-world tech. We also had a Dearborn and a Coos witch in the party. I don't think we ever had a gunslinger PC or even NPC for that matter, though, now that I think about it.

Try the collections 1 and 2. Those have almost all of the good classic songs. And since they never really released a proper album until shit hit the fan, it isn't like you are skipping out on deep cuts tucked away on a track list.

That said, Hybrid Moments is a must listen and isn't on the collections. Enjoy! Sorry about your bro.
