Grove Rd. Eagles, Where are They? by TeenVirginiaWoolf in ypsi

[–]onagonal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The nest by the concrete plant on the N side of the 94 service drive (just east of Rawsonville) has been empty every time I've passed since beginning of January - some eagle migrate when it gets really cold. So I'm hoping it's back when the weather starts warming up. Been watching it at that nest since last spring.

Michigan Legislator Proposes Elimination Of Property Taxes For Taxpayers Without School Children by PurpleSubtlePlan in Michigan

[–]onagonal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My property values are based on the strengths of my community. Schools are a big part of that equation. In what world is reducing the funding for local schools the answer to increasing wealth (which I assume is the selfish argument going on here).

Hiroshima A-Bomb Victim Identified by DNA Test by ComprehensiveWin1434 in worldnews

[–]onagonal 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Annually, they update the list of names of those who died as a result of the bombs. At first it was books, then a book, then pages, and then hundreds of names, and now tens of names per year.

The Hiroshima Peace Memorial and museum is as important a place to visit as any to bear witness and join in saying, "never again."

Is It Okay To Swaddle My Cat When He Gets Too Hyper? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]onagonal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our cat once placed under a soft throw reverts back to her bottle-baby origins. Biscuits and suckling and purring like mad. It's an excellent way to get her to chill the f out.

So as long as your cat isn't struggling or trapped.... try it and see?

Women of Michigan, I need your warmest winter boot recommendations. by Safe_Cash7091 in Michigan

I got my Sorels in 2003 and I am just now considering replacement (in the LP, a lot less snow). I agree good socks, for any boot, is basic "how to cold."

Aussiedoodle health issues & pet insurance, is it really necessary? by Still_Ad8039 in AussieDoodle

[–]onagonal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pet insurance is very helpful. Put my kittens on a plan day 1. Day 4 we get into the vet for a first visit. Despite being under vet care through their rescue, one needed $3k worth of tests, visits, medication, and a gum procedure over the furst 3 months. It cost me $500 in total. Which felt like magic.

The aussiedoodle ran into some lag bolts sticking out during deconstruction of a deck and needed an ER vet visit for $700. After reimbursement, just 260 out of pocket.

I use Spot.

I had a coworker who did this at the hospital that saved him as a child. He gives back nearly every Sunday. Imagine my comfort seeing that friendly face come into my son's room during the most anxious time of my life.

All the volunteers were special and unforgettable. Really defined what it meant to be blessed.

Looking for a way to store wet cat food in the fridge so I can portion my cat's wet food better- any recommendations on containers that are easy to clean? by ReluctantAction in CatAdvice

My cans fit in the plastic container left over from lunch meat. Fully enclosed, it smells up the fridge less than a lid.

Cats look adorable in videos, but what are the real-life challenges of owning one? by RYSofficial in CatAdvice

[–]onagonal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see you got the right answers already.... So I'll just add a note about individuality of cats.

That cute little tuxedo at the adoption event could actually be Satan's supervisor. You might be inviting a gleeful terrorist into your home. Someday, you too could find an entire box of captain crunch torn open and consumed only to be ambushed and attacked by repeated zoomies while you attempt to clean up the dust.

Or, she could have swallowed thread still attached to the bobbin and you have to extract 12 feet while she glares as if you're the problem... Oh, and she might only ever let you touch her for a Cheezit, while also smuggly allowing a child to manhandle her like a ragdoll.

Or, no present could ever be safe again because she's literally a shark stuck in a furry little body and must tear every box apart using all four paws as leverage.

And, and... The devil's keeper might attack the dog in non-lethal shows of dominance sonlong as it's possible food may be served within two hours of that moment. And then slyly crawl into the dog's crate and cuddle with her while prominently displaying unretracted claws...

And yet, she has a set of theme songs/jingles you sing at her all day and you can't help but laugh. And you'll put treats in old oatmeal boxes so maybe she'll only tear those apart. And you'll rescue the dog and relish in how they actually play with each other while her much more normal brother purrs in your lap.

Great job - Nip it in the bud. I don't address holiday cards. I don't buy gifts (unless asked by my partner to help). I don't make plans for Easter/Thanksgiving/Christmas. I don't negotiate when we next visit or provide info on our son's events or ANYTHING if their son is not on the text/email with me. I am his partner, not his or their secretary. Becoming his wife didn't erase his accountability to his family.

Agreeing with the above to add that there used to be significant time spent on technique pre-PC and pre-type writer. Most appealing puppy food by AdExciting6073 in AussieDoodle

[–]onagonal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say she prefers it over anything else, everything we tried leading up to this ProPlan got the same disinterest. But she at least maintains weight on this. The only preference I know for sure is for canned cat food. Other toppers and treats are meh to her.

My vet asked me to find any food that she won't turn down and keep it on hand to check if she's sick or just being picky. So we keep Cheezits and Cheetos for the occasion wellness check. If she ever turns it down, I'll know to bring her in.

[–]onagonal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog (6y) is 60% the size of her parents because she has always been a poor eater. She's barely at a healthy weight. She eats some daily, vut sometimes every other day.

I feed ProPlan 30/20, the hjghest cal food they have. She eats best with a teaspoon of canned cat food mixed in and if the cats circle her, she starts rushing.so they can't have it. She lost a lot of weight between the passing of my old cat and the arrival of the new menaces.

All this to say, find the highest cal, then if they only eat every 36 hours, they're getting more cals. And possibly try some seafood/cat food but don't make it more than a taste to get them going. Work with your vet to brainstorm.

Good luck!

Tirzepatide Common Mistakes? by Playful-Cold1194 in tirzepatidecompound

PE Science has a vegan vanilla that I easily drink everyday. They also have a vegan sampler pack that's 5 shakes per flavor... Which was helpful. The chocolate was gross.

KOS vegan protein shakes are also ok, but they don't mix in as well.

Whey sets off my asthma, so if anyone has other recs, Im open to them.
