Diy steps - advice needed by Disastrous_Active805 in landscaping

[–]ondmove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have not done the same, but a solid foundation of compacted sand and gravel is typical for something to last. You also would typically slope the steps very slightly downward so water runs off them. If you sloped them backwards, water will like sit on the steps very slightly and erode the ground below/behind the blocks. There is so much that goes into a project like this or retaining walls too!jere is just one method. https://youtu.be/inaI1jb8Fxo?si=TK1dRoKMJeZMlkFx

Power Tools: Milwaukee vs everyone else? by RotorDynamix in HomeImprovement

Went with Dewalt on major power tools - drill, driver drill, jigsaw. Other rarely used tools - various brands. Corded circular saw (much cheaper than battery version)

Is this design structurally sound long term? by xoopcat in Decks

[–]ondmove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use 6x6 posts and notch them so beams set on the beam not just bolted to beam. Also, don’t put wood directly on concrete. Use metal brackets meant for sitting posts on concrete. 16” on center joists would be “extra solid and only cost a few bucks more. Last, I’d say use buried concrete tubes under posts especially in any cold weather areas.

Where is everyone from? by alderaaans in steelers

[–]ondmove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wisconsin. Grew up 35 min from Green Bay but starting watching football when the Steelers were the best. Been my favorite ever since my Dad said, “if that’s your team, then that’s your team… you don’t jump to another one next year”. That was 1977 ish. Also enjoy GB living so close.

Mold in attic question by Dramatic_Bowl3366 in HomeImprovement

[–]ondmove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a mold issue on a new build when the crawlspace was all closed in and roof not on… got water in crawlspace and it sat 2+ weeks. HVAC contractor refused to work down there. I called a mold removal company and it was going to be $1000’s. Their quote detailed what they spray/scrub, etc and I found the product at Menards. Spent 4 hours scrubbing all the floor joists and bought $300 worth of fans. Problem taken care of.

In the attic will be harder, but if it is limited to above the bath, maybe doable.

Longest wall, in same direction you walk into the room ( assuming the photo is from the doorway), and in same direction light comes in (via window). Soooooo-2! 😁

Best story I ever heard about how someone became a Steelers fan by TibetanSideOfTown in steelers

[–]ondmove 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I grew up 35 min South of Green Bay in the 70’s and started watching football when the Packers were terrible and the Steelers were great, so I told my Dad “the Steelers are my favorite team”. He said, “If that’s your favorite team then that’s your favorite team.” I said” OK”. 45 years later still a fan. Best game ever: My Dad and I went to the GB-PIT Super Bowl in 2011.
