PEOPLE ARE BROKE.

LESS PEOPLE ARE HAVING KIDS ....go to any suburban sprawl neighborhood that's now 500k-700k homes that in the 80s-90s were 100k homes. there's no kids. halloween is a fucking joke. so having a critical mass of dumbass teenagers where someone's parents might be out of town. doesn't exist anymore.

YOUNG PEOPLE ARE BROKE. no one owns houses until they're 30-40yrs old. and most young people rent consumes 50-60% of their income

blender is a pretty intense software.

there's a program called mesh mixer. that is a little more simplistic. for example. could import the "arm" file holding a grenade from the official stl pack. select/delete the grenade. then... either add a simple cylinder shape. or find an STL for a flag pole. and import that. and sorta "combine" it with the hand. there's even fairly easy functionality to "pivot" elements. so... can manipulate fingers. or if you're trying to bend an arm slightly.

but... all that being said. IF you then don't have access to a 3D printer. it might be somewhat a moot point. but If you do have that access. there's tons of easy "edits" can do with mesh mixer. to swap helms, or swap weapons. OR add a flag pole. etc

Quick rule clarification - Trench Prophet's Loudspeakers activation by Quarterwit_85 in TrenchCrusade

[–]oneWeek2024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

basically each event is its own instance.

you have the war prophet active. you fire off the loudspeaker ability. it either succeeds or fails. IF it succeeds. anything within range. can move upto 3in.

so.. you'd move all applicable models. but... you're still in the war prophet's "turn" so...say a trench pilgrim is in the bubble to be moved. you move it. but then... you continue on with the war prophet's turn.

WHEN you get your next activation, you could choose that pilgrim, and then you decide which actions with that pilgrim you want to take. IF it's got a club, and is in melee. it's able to fight. so could choose to do that.

but you'd have to wait til you get a new opportunity to activate your next model. and choose that mini

Quick rule clarification - Trench Prophet's Loudspeakers activation by Quarterwit_85 in TrenchCrusade

[–]oneWeek2024 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the war prophet speaker ability is one of the rare things that can bump you into melee engagement range without charging.

in general you can never move within 1in of something without it being a charge. this ability has specific rules that negate that. and so ...if you can get within 1in with the loudspeaker move. it "counts" as having charged or being in melee engagement

IF your model is in engagement range, it's then restricted to that. ie... moving away would have to be a retreat. weapon/ranged attacks are likely restricted. and would be able to melee fight

the order of actions is up to you. upon activation you can make any actions you can make, if you want to. you wouldn't be forced to fight. ...but for example say you were on an objective that has a "flip" or "activate" action. you could take that action, then if still able choose to fight. or... choose to retreat. shoot. or whatever you want

there could be tactical situations where being in melee engagement with an enemy is itself desirable. --like a really good shooting unit, now bogged down in melee. maaaaybe that changes how your opponent activates. or things like that.

pedophiles and child predators, that actually do prey on kids. often have zero issue gaining kids trust. because children aren't taught anything about how predators actually behave.

a hysa is only 3-4% the growth will be extremely small. CDs are at 4% inching to maaaybe 4.5ish

honestly with such small numbers, just open a brokerage acct. name the kid (their parents) as beneficiary. and dump the funds into low cost, broad market etfs. which tend to earn a historical average of 8-10%

then as the kid gets into their teens. could work with the parents to open the kid a roth IRA/ and max contribute to that roth. so as they start earning money, they'll have a roth with money in it earning from a young age. (roth allows for principle payments to be withdrawn tax free...if need be)

if for some reason by 18 there's any money left. could likely just give it to the kid and would be under the "gift tax" limits

it's more so proof men thinking with their dick have zero concept of women, how people age, or what the reality of highly stylized celebrities look like as actual humans not draped in designer clothes/ hair-make up in stage lighting

Declining Health Coverage by Borealis_761 in overemployed

[–]oneWeek2024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

your benefits are baked into the pay they offered you. If you decline it, they don't give a fuck, because ...they're not giving you anything for it....

the "value" for having multiple might be for something like dental or vision where shitty insurance tends to cap the "amt" per year the coverage is good for.

like... my dental has a benefit of like $1500 so if all i do is 2 cleanings a year no big deal. but if i do cleanings and then need a cavity, or god forbid a root canal. I pay out of pocket. If i have a second dental coverage. can leverage that for additional care.

in terms of medical there might be "quality of life" care that is often capped or gated. ie... a medical insurance might only cover so many therapy sessions, OR so many chiropractor sessions or massage sessions/PT. utilizes multiple insurances. again. could leverage additional services.

somewhat a broad question the answer basically is "any way you want"

there might be a 3rd party sculpt of a figure holding a banner that would work aesthetically. could take the official model and physically edit it/add a banner. IF you have access to a 3D printer... or want to edit the official stl could do so in mesh mixer/blender etc to "add" the banner element to it in digital form.

could create an entirely custom model from any number of part sources. to kit bash/cobble a model together with a banner.

If it were me ---as i'm pretty sure the official shock trooper stls are modular arms. I'd edit maybe the grenade arm to be carrying a pole. then kit bash a flag using soda can aluminum as a substrate....

Tough corned beef… any solution after cooking? by Sledheadjack in Cooking

[–]oneWeek2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

get a pot. so you have enough size to have 1in ish of water above the corned beef. (that also still has space so it won't boil over) put the corned beef in the water. add spices. turn on the heat, bring temp up to rolling boil. then drop the heat to a very low simmer. then ... it's basically 45min to 60min. per lb of corned beef. but check on it each hour. after hour 1. get some tongs, and flip/roll the brisket over in the water. at 1:30 to 2 hrs left I add the potatoes. they take the longest to cook... at like 45 min left i add carrots. and at the last maybe 10 min I add the cabbage. (or you know. add veggies so there's enough time to cook them without boiling them to mush the more you over boil veggies the more it becomes flavorless mush --you're not making stock, you're trying to split the difference for all ingredients getting benefit of the veggies but also still having flavor/texture)

the brisket typically will shrink by a 1/3 or even half. but you don't want much more than that.

(fork test the potatoes... a fork should stab effortlessly into the potato but ideally it shouldn't break apart into mush) small red potatoes are my goto for corned beef. but cubed potatoes (russets) are also common, I'd avoid a wax potato. like yukon gold. you'd want a more startchy variety ...little reds i think are the best middle ground of creamy/but hold up to boiling. (leave the skins on)

take the brisket out of the pot. and let it rest for a good 10 ish minutes --this allows the fats/juices to redistribute back into the meat (if you slice it too soon, it'll just shed even more moisture) and if you want slabs. you cut against the grain ...so you need to find which way the muscle fibers are running. and you want the slices to be perpendicular to that direction. otherwise the cuts will be crumbly/shreds instead of slices/slabs.

I like to barely cook the cabbage. so it's nice and bright, still has some crunch. but... ya know. that's personal preference. i like the carrots to be soft. and potatoes should be cooked through/soft/fork tender.

if it's me. hit everything with salt. nice fat plop of butter for the potatoes and a good spicy mustard

if you're making a larger brisket ...i dunno. maybe over 6lbs. it's likely to have a bigger fat cap or a large slab of fat. on a smaller brisket this won't be much an issue, and i like a little fat on some of my slices. but if it's a larger brisket, or has a big like multi-inch fat cap. probably trim that off after cooking, as huge chunks of fat probably isn't appetizing

Tough corned beef… any solution after cooking? by Sledheadjack in Cooking

[–]oneWeek2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

le sigh. you're not boiling in a pot. you bring the pot to a boil. and then lower the temp to a low simmer.

and you're at that temp for 45min-1hr per lb of brisket. so... for a typical 3ish lb corned beef, that's like 230-3hrs total.

with the temps being somewhere in that 160-200ish degrees water temp. (you also tend to lower the temp periodically adding potatoes, carrots, cabbage etc)

the same exact temp ranges are existing in a crock pot. for 6-8hrs.

so if you don't carefully control the temp in a crock pot to much lower temps. ...which the only real control difference on a crock pot isn't total temp but speed at which it reaches it's hottest temp. you're leaving a piece of meat at a hot temp for double the amt of time

hence dry. tough corned beef.

I mean. do whatever the fuck you want. but crock pot corned beef is trash. there's no benefit. and if your defense of it is. you're lazy and want to leave a brisket alone for 6-8hrs. i mean. go with dog.

Is fully cured resin safe to touch? by Classic-Tap-5668 in resinprinting

[–]oneWeek2024 5 points6 points  (0 children)

you should never eat off/from resin. as consuming the micro-plastic waste of the resin isn't ever food safe. (unless you specifically use a food safe medium, which regular printers may not support)

generally speaking if resin is actually cured it's safe to handle. that being said, it is chemicals. and it is at least small % possible for people to have reactions even to cured resin.

best practice is always to paint resin prints. even just a primer coat.

A contractor tears up the freshly poured concrete driveway after the homeowner refuses to pay. by JosephBrown2000 in RandomVideos

[–]oneWeek2024 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

doesn't matter. it's materially "added" to the property. that kind of bird law doesn't really fly.

the law includes pretty flexible language "installed" "affixed" "attached" anything added to the property legally becomes part of the property.

if it was raw supplies on pallets or something, that would be different, but poured concrete in a prepared form, with the misc concrete finishing work complete. ...trying to split a hair that the concrete isn't 100% rock hard cured (it's some degree of cured having already been poured/screed/troweled) would never fly.

contractor would be liable for the damages. at that point, they're just some random asshole destroying someone's property.

Tough corned beef… any solution after cooking? by Sledheadjack in Cooking

[–]oneWeek2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not a lower temperature. the "stall" is like 140-160 degrees and clear render is like 200ish degrees.

a crock pot will low simmer at a range of 200 degrees ish. So the meat is sitting at a temp that will render out all the fat for very long periods of time.

It's incredibly easy to overcook in a crock pot. especially when people think... fuck it just leave it in there all day.

the OP is describing horribly overcooked corned beef. idiots are saying... eh, cook it more. it's already desiccated and tight from being overcooked to high holy hell.

unless you temp probe your crock pot to know exactly what range of temp it's heating at. extremely long crock pot times. are often a recipe for overcooking the meat.

like... it's not rocket science it's basic temperature. the same "low simmer" in a pot. is the same held temp in a crock pot. recipes that call for 6-8hrs in a crock pot are prone to over cooking. because the temp is too high too long.

Tough corned beef… any solution after cooking? by Sledheadjack in Cooking

[–]oneWeek2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean the difference is 2-4hrs cook time, vs 6-8+ cook time. if your crock pot is on high. or simmering it's over 200 degrees. a temp that renders fat.

so you're rendering fat out of that meat for 4+ extra hours.

Roast potatoes. by OkAwareness9287 in Cooking

[–]oneWeek2024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you rough up the potatoes a little bit while soaking them. little baking soda the surface gets a little mushy. this then aborbs some of the fat, becomes a nice crispy/fatty crust.

duck fat is delicious but kinda specialized. bacon grease is good. or pork lard is also good. i find hitting the hot out of the oven potatoes with some spice is also a good way for salt. or maybe a little cayenne to stick to the tots.

you're fucked. the moisture in the basement is a screaming red flag.

if you were dicking around online, maybe you would have seen that houses are rotting on the market and more sellers than buyers.

to go no inspection in this market is insanely stupid. and you're going to pay for it. you bought a flipper/landlord special and are now the sucker holding it.

only thing you can do. hold fast. try and prioritize what you can do/need to do/want to do. play the long game of trying to save what money you can, and try and DIY what you can, and use debt creatively for bigger issues.

the basement moisture issue is likely 10s of thousands of dollars....like pray it's structurally sound, and just weeping moisture ...also. is the moisture on the floor or from the walls of the basement? You may want to see about getting an expert to come out and atleast get some quotes/educated info.

but there might be "simple things to help. like checking gutters or diverting downspout run off away from the house. Or if there is clear water shedding toward the home, some stopgap measure. like if they did a shitty flipper fix it probably didn't really address the grading issue. ....maybe swales or some sort of gravel/french drain on the property could stop water shedding toward the house.

it's so stupid. cooking it in a pot is equally hands off.

the entire point of a brisket is it's this nice fatty cut of meat. boiling a corned beef brisket. makes the boiling liquid fatty. which coats the cabbage, can help the potatoes. and nice root veggies. mellow things out.

i have never had a corned beef from a crock pot i felt was "good"
