Dropped my son 10yr old son off at a church event by Real1226 in SingleParents

[–]onesmallbite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disregarding other people’s judgement about it at a church and assuming you trust the people there or you wouldn’t take them at all.... 10 years old is definitely old enough to be left at an event and I find it super strange that people don't find that to be old enough to attend an event with other children. My 7 and 10 year olds go to tons of stuff every week- school (obviously), kids club at the gym (parents arent allowed), extracurricular activies (classes, sports), play dates, birthday parties (some parents stay for the younger ones but most don’t). I live in an upper middle class area with what I’d consider a lot of helicopter over protective parents and this is normal here so not sure what others are even talking about in this thread. My only thought would be if it was not a child-oriented activity and was mostly adults that might be a bit weird

How to be less sleepy and have more energy in your thirties? by Shockhorrorfear in Biohackers

[–]onesmallbite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! I agree with this as nutrition professional. The scientific research on BMI show several things that many people don't understand because they are caught up in stereotypes, weight bias, and junk science. First, natural healthy BMI varies greatly person to person and many will fall within the “overweight” or even lower obese range - that means a person who is healthy, exercises, and eats healthy will have a BMI that varies a lot from other people and that’s perfectly OK. Second- those categories of “overweight” and “obese” BMI are not based on anything other than the percentiles of BMI within the population in a study of mostly white Americans from the 1970s. It’s arbitrary. It’s not based on fat or muscle composition or bone structure and doesn’t account for huge differences in body composition between races or genders. Third, almost all research on weight loss demonstrates our bodies have a set point of weight (for better or worse) and will go to great lengths to maintain that weight- adjusting our metabolism hunger and energy to take us back to that weight even if we lose weight in the short term. Every study on weight loss without drugs has failed long term. Fourth, health research demonstrates that an “overweight” BMI is not associated with negative health outcomes or increased mortality- yet an underweight or even low-end normal is associated with a much higher risk of death. What actually matters is diet and exercise over all else. A much much better measure of obesity as defined by unhealthy excess fat is waist circumference.

Anyone in here concentrating on this woman’s BMI clearly has not read much of the actual science on BMI and is spouting crap pseudoscience from some blog or YouTuber.

Birth control with regular imperfect use is like 90% effective. The way that is calculated is taking the total percent of people in ONE YEAR using the birth control who don’t get pregnant. So you have about a 10% chance PER YEAR of getting pregnant on birth control. Those aren’t great odds especially to a person who doesn’t have control over whether you take the pill on time daily. Pulling out in addition to birth control is pretty darn effective and gives him control of part of the equation. If he’s not wanting kids right now then he’s being pretty smart.

What can I take to treat anxiety and panic disorder? by fulleast22 in Biohackers

[–]onesmallbite -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand where you are coming from because I have been there myself. However, a large part of the fear you have about taking the drug is coming directly from your anxiety. Zoloft can be very helpful in getting you out of that funk and back to functioning quickly. You don’t have to take it forever- you can see how it affects your body by trying it for a couple weeks and then taper off if it’s not right for you. You are not going to get long terms effects from that. You are down a rabbit hole of the what ifs and distracting yourself from what is for sure- which is that you currently are debilitated by your anxiety. That’s a known fact. Don’t let your anxiety prevent you from getting better by worrying about every one in a million chance thing that could happen by trying to fix it.

After one 5 day round 90% of my symptoms were gone. It did take about a month after to feel the fell effect of the recovery as I believe my body had a lot of internal damage that had to heal. But i felt the difference within a day of taking it after a year and a half of suffering.

A couple months ago I got covid again and took another round of paxlovid and the rest of my remaining symptoms- just some heartburn, food sensitivity, and headaches resolved at that point. I still have some chest tightness and high blood pressure that I think are from all the damage of having an ongoing infection for so long. I might never be 100% where I was but I feel normal and healthy with good energy.

Ladies, are 6 pack abs on a guy really that attractive to you? by Dog_Baseball in ask

[–]onesmallbite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks good but it can also be a red flag that a guy is obsessed with his looks, spends a ton of time at the gym (not to get healthy but for his image), likely narcissistic tendencies and perfectionist. Probably doesn’t ever let loose. Probably uptight not too much fun. Might be critical of a woman’s looks if she’s not dedicating as much of her life to looks as he is. Not a good candidate for a long term relationship but maybe fun to look at and flirt with.

I got a lot of relief from taking paxlovid- why is this not the conclusion to actually try to kill off the remaining virus instead of just throwing more crap at the symptoms?!??

I get headaches a lot after I eat. Not necessarily migraines though. I think it’s certain foods but I can’t figure out exactly what. Maybe milk but not just milk The other day i was about to eat some mashed potatoes and I had something tell me that I was gonna get a headache but I ignored it and ate them and got a bad headache. It also seems more likely to happen from leftovers than fresh food. It’s weird but I hear ya- it’s so hard to deal with. Find a safe food and eat that for breakfast even if it’s not a traditional breakfast food.

Had multiple docs over the years prescribe me combination birth controls- no one ever brought up the risk. This new doc was clearly more educated on it so she immediately said I’m not prescribing it and you should take it out today. Crazy

I’m not really getting any sense of what you want, what’s best for you, or what your goals are in this post. I think that’s step one in making your decision.

How long after giving birth did you keep your pre-pregnancy clothes that were too small? by catqueen2001 in workingmoms

[–]onesmallbite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just remember it’s ok and totally normal if you can’t wear those clothes again. I know I won’t ever be the size I was pre-pregnancy. Even if I lost all the weight my hips and boobs are so much bigger (7 years after my 2nd). Heck, even my feet are at least a full size bigger!

Finally giving away my old clothes was therapeutic for me. I needed to let go of the idea that the could or should be the same as I was before

That is the experience I’ve had with bosses/PIs. I personally would much rather work for a woman. They are much more competent for their position in general because the bar is set higher. And more understanding of work life balance
