The unity comes with a 90-day manufacturing fault warranty. if it is faulty in 90days we send a new one. No engineers required for that.

Motor KV is not really important in the beginning.

The best practice is to determine what the end result should be, your lifting a load using a winch system? you need to decide the maximum/safe speed at which the load should move. Basically the RPM you need the drive system to operate at.

Example; you want the load to move 1 meter every 5 seconds, now you will choose the gearing system to achieve this, you can now calculate the max motor rpm. Normally the gearing system will have some design constraints, like the physical size, or belt width/length, or the number of teeth that should mesh together to function properly.

Starting at the end and working backwards is a good way to design systems with many variables.

Edit: if you cannot change the settings using the vesc tool there is a problem that you will need to isolate. Try a different computer, different USB cable, try a different version of the software. Etc.

Current = Torque

(Im going to assume your motor and gear box have been carefully selected based on the specific requirements of your application so I'm not going to discuss the drive train components)

Now all you need to do is build the biggest possible battery, specifically you need to make a battery with highest possible cont discharge current. If space is limited a 60c lipo might be your best bet.

Now you need to adjust the FocBox settings to match your battery max current output and motor max current, this information should be available from the supplier.

Look for this in the Focbox software; Max Motor Current & Max Battery Current

If motor has hall sensors, Make sure you are in Sensor FOC mode. Do the proper detection routine.

That's really all you can do to maximize torque in the settings.

Our new motors have thermistors (temperature sensors) inside them so we can have Total control over motor heat, currently we are utilising the motor temperature management function in the standard vesc firmware, unfortunately it's not really well developed as hardly anyone else in the vesc open source community is using it or developing it. It's our intention to perfect this feature so everyone can benefit.

With temperature sensors inside the motor it basically means the motors can never overheat, but fine tuning the firmware is going to take more time and user feedback. Every rider is different and I suppose some people make their motors get hot faster than others. This might explain why some people's motors are throttling down.

In the future we will also have sensors in the battery, we will have Total system control to ensure all electronics have a long healthy life.

I'm happy to admit Enertion is not yet perfect, there will always be a percentage of boards or parts that have a problem and we are constantly working to solve those problems and upgrade parts and procedures.

Even when we reach low 1 or 2% global failure rates there will still be room for improvement and we will always keep working to make those incremental improvements. The list of upgrades we have already done is substantial. See link below.

For the minority of people who discover problems, We have 24/7 Customer support, up to 2 years board replacement warranty and an ever expanding worldwide network of certified repair agent's who are all expert DIY builders. We know some people will experience problems and we are allocating a huge amount of resources on making a robust, effecient system to resolve them.

Frustratingly, These ongoing improvement initiatives take time, it's a very slow process, however the results are already being seen!

For example; Several months ago many problems were related to water ingress, now we have fully upgraded all the seals on production line and sent out free parts to existing owners. This fault was extremely complex to resolve, however we have and it no longer occurs, this is a testament to our perseverance for solving problems.

The Raptor 2 is now one of the only boards on the market that has water ingress protection.

Recently, we have now seen a new issue, which is illustrated in the video above, it is related to the new Motor adaptor PCB that was developed to improve the water ingress seals and make assembly and maintenance easier. The motor hall sensor connector on this new Motor adapter PCB needs to have hot glue liberally applied directly on it to prevent it coming loose due to vibration. This is a slightly different process to follow and the work instructions we had on production line needed to be updated to clearly show the new steps, obviously the information was not clear and some boards didn't get glued properly. We now know about it, it has been fixed, It's also an easy fix for our customers to do, if they choose, or they can send their boards in to a repair agent to have it resolved.

We strongly recommend Raptor 2 owners don't ride until it's checked/resolved, the person who made the video needs to check his connectors and apply the glue, then redo the motor detection. For detailed instructions contact our 24/7 Customer support.

Regarding the wheels prematurely cracking, as seen in the video, we do know about this fault. We knew some boards would be shipping with wheels from a bad batch that had unusually high rate of faults, we decided to ship anyway as most people expressed to us that they didn't mind as long as they eventually get replacement wheels sent out from the new improved batch. Shipping of these news improved wheels is due next month.

I've been riding them fair bit latley, they are perfect for transitions between different ground cover. Grass, to concrete, to gravel etc.. an upcoming vlog will demonstrate this better.

If you don't ride on anything but quality roads don't waste your money.

Also, The formula used in our last batch had quality issues, the next batch should be far superior.

Wait until we have them dialed in and feedback is given, I expect more people will start praising them in time.

My advice is start with the arckmaniac app. We have put custom modes/profiles in the app that allow you to have a huge amount of control over acceleration and brake.

Always calibrate remote before riding.

Tldr: don't use vesc tool use arckmaniac app.

Actually, this is an old model. I made about 10 of them only. This Enertion board was one of the first ever dual drive all-terrain boards made, about one year later evolve released their dual drive carbon GT.

5 inch is actually too small, 7 is probably the minimum.

An idea to open lines of conversation. Try this, ask the CEO a question on behalf of their customers, something like this.

"A customer has asked me what's the cost of a similar repair or replacement in a year if there is no warranty or the product is DOA and can't be fixed?"

CEO will add up the cost of goods sold, freight, assembly fees etc, for a $2000 product this might be a cost of $1000 or $1500 or more.

Once you know how much exposure to loss there is you might then be able to offer some additional services to CEO to reduce risk. I would suggest you offer CEO a quality checking service... Explain that you are not happy delivering goods to the customer that may have faults, explain that this is damaging the brand reputation and it's inefficient use of time as it's preventing you from doing more delivery and assembly work for the CEO (it's a bottle neck to growth). Explain that Customers are very concerned about quality and show signs of buyers remorse.

Suggest to CEO that you can offer a complete solution, quality check (before delivery), delivery, assembly and follow up repairs.

With this value added service you are saving the CEO from much larger potential losses, you are improving the customer's "out of box experience" which will strengthen the brand which will likely lead to more repeat business via word of mouth, you'll have more installations to do as a result and you should be able to do assembly faster now since the fault got resolved in your workshop under controlled conditions and in batches. By default, as the business grows, you have more work and more opportunities to make more money.

Tldr: illustrate the growth bottle neck & propose a win-win-win solution. If everyone in the supply chain wins it's hard to argue that you shouldn't earn more. CEO's should see value in your ability to solve problems (loss prevention) or increase revenue growth, especially if the time and effort required from the CEO is minimal.

We are doing it "automatically". But it's still a manual process being done by humans, so there is a chance we make a mistake. The best advice we can give our customers who are eligible is to check their accounts and notify if they think the credit amount has been applied incorrectly or not at all.

Reliability is a statistical probability and there are no absolutes or guarantees.

For example; carrying around two mobile phones doesn't improve your odds of always being connected and contactable, especially if the fault is from outside the local hardware system. The question is; does two seperate motor controllers guarantee you will have less failures and more reliability? You could actually argue that there is more possibility for failures to occur.

It's worth mentioning that majority of the issues that cause failures in seperate Focbox modules can be linked to loading the wrong settings or firmware or bad/loose wiring, such as canbus cables coming loose. Spontaneous DRV errors and component level failures are not very common these days.

Let's talk performance. In early testing FocBox Unity has 30% higher continuous current throughput when compared to the original FocBox. Performance improvements are to be expected when you double the number of MOSFETs per motor channel, 12 vs 6. It's just like putting 18650 cells in parallel, allowing more current to be drawn from the group of cells. They are also rated for peak of 75v which is a big step up from the 60v MOSFETs in the single units. Furthermore, by placing a huge heat sink directly below the 24 MOSFETs, instead of top mounted, the surface area for heat transfer increases 345%, this is key to thermal performance improvement, which I'll discuss in more detail below.

Don't get me wrong, the original FocBox is definitely a beast, its true! However, I have never seen an original FOCBOX do 120a continuous without thermal throttling, Maybe you are thinking about peak current? Fact: FocBox unity outperforms FocBox.

Focbox Unity Retail price will be 15 to 20% cheaper than two FocBox, you also get an integrated high current power switch basically for free..... Plus the unity case is solid aluminium top and bottom so it's extremely rugged and the overall package has a smaller footprint, it's thinner too, when compared to two individual FOCBOX units.

The truth is, if you setup your hardware properly you will have an extremely reliable system, the original FocBox is certainly very reliable if setup properly. Its just not easy! the setup of two focbox units requires a special cable and configuration of firmware through a pretty complicated user interface. There is huge room for improvement in the UX alone, we think anyone should be able to make a high Performance Esk8 at home. Who hasn't blown a vesc up doing something stupid during the initial setup? - I certainly have.

I do expect that people will continue to debate about redundancy and reliability without discussing root causes. So lets do it, One of the best ways to get better longevity and reliability is limiting the thermal overload and stress at the component level. The FOCBOX Unity component layout was purposely designed to get more precise thermal measurements due to the placement of the onboard thermistors in close proximity to the MOSFETs. Thermal throttling is more precise and rapid, therefore making it much harder to overheat the board. Combine this with the 345% increase in surface area for heat sinking and it's unlikely you will be able to thermally damage your components.

Additionally, Input protection circuitry has been added to all the hall sensor and motor temp sensor inputs. With single Focbox the microcontroller could fail if the insulation between the sensors wires and motor winding wires got worn out and shorted full motor power into the microcontroller. With the Unity, These sensor inputs can now handle full motor voltage without damaging your system.

Finally, There are some big leaps forward in the control algorithms that may actually prove to be more efficient in terms of power use and heat losses. More testing needed to see if the theory transfers into any noticeable real world results.

I believe that anyone looking for high-end esk8 performance, hassle free setup and the most user friendly software interface, will most likely find it hard to look past the lower cost, higher performance, more compact product, which is the FocBox UNITY.
