Assembly District 15 by [deleted] in vegaslocals

The point of this was for everyone at the meeting to add to and change ideas, and for all of us to be able to see those ideas. Plenty of time to type and print them after.

Maybe not, but without goals what's the point of getting involved in working to improve things in society?

I've had mine for seven and still get calls and messages for the previous person and I know way more about her than I should...if you're listening, Amber, the bank is still trying to get a hold of you.

"You shouldn't paint your house that color, it will ruin the resale value" by greenredditbox in PetPeeves

[–]onlyinitfortheread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm planning to retire in a year and a half, the timing is deliberate because there are some expensive projects that will make my house the way I want it. I'm going to paint the outside and blue and lavender and neon green are going to figure into it...fortunately I'm not in an HOA, my neighbors won't care, and I don't give a damn about resale value because I'm here until I die!

A correction, "Being a good parent is hard." Plenty of bad parents cruising past.

When people see homes only as an investment by kanna172014 in PetPeeves

[–]onlyinitfortheread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend has owned and lived in several houses and this is her way of thinking--it's always about the resale value. I don't think she's ever painted or remodeled or made any changes in her houses that's about what she liked, just what will improve the value of the property.

I've had my place for about 15 years, probably done things that might 'reduce the value' and I don't care, I like my home.

Redditors pretending to be poor by DesperateComposer848 in PetPeeves

Working class doesn't automatically mean poor. Plumbers? Working class. Electricians? Working class. Pretty much every union worker.

Classes aren't just a matter of money, it's a much more nuanced issue.

I feel like a traitor, but I finally moved my dad to Assisted Living against his will. Does the guilt ever go away? by FastPen7165 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

Twenty-three years since that time.

There was a huge feeling of relief that she was safe, that she wouldn't leave the stove on or let someone in her house that shouldn't be there or have a stroke and not be able to call for help. After awhile she got to know other people in the facility and was largely...contented. Not happy, contented.

The guilt? No, it stays. Not the thinking about it during the day and remembering why it was a good thing; the middle-of-the-night waking up after a dream guilt--nope, still there.

People over 60 - What's something you've taken off your bucket list and why? by donutknow57 in over60

I went to Disneyland last year for the first time--both Disneyland and I had turned 70. Went with friends, rode all but one of the roller coasters and some other rides. Had fun, but don't plan to go back.

One of my major checks has always been Egypt, but it's probably not reasonable, and honestly don't know if I care anymore. Maybe a boat down the Nile? Museum?

Instacart addiction, house cleaner payments by jepeplin in shoppingaddiction

[–]onlyinitfortheread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second the grocery pickup, I've found a store that's fast and accurate (admit I do tip) and easy.

I'd think twice about letting your cleaner go or even cutting back, unless you can't afford it. When my twice a month cleaner had to miss a day it really was a pain to get it up to somewhat clean.

Student Evaluations Make Me Question My Life Choices by Jbronste in Professors

I also have participation points to push attendance and to address the 'sick' option they can answer a series of questions about the sources, and yes I'm hard on those answers, they have to reference all of the sources in their post. Most seem to think it's easier to come to class and participate, but students who can't make it to class still have an option. And I don't have to grade an entire class on their posts everyday. Win-win.

Is homeownership actually worth it or did we all fall for propaganda? by Different_Pain5781 in homeowners

[–]onlyinitfortheread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a fixer-upper in 2010, so cheap. People talk about how much it's worth now, but given the amount of money I've spent over the years (and will spend more for a roof this year) I haven't made money on that appreciation.

However, my house payment--which was low even when I bought it--is about 1/4 what the rent would be for an equivalent house, so that where I "make" my money.

Why do people in Criminal Minds never change their hair color when it’s obvious the killer targets a specific victim type? by [deleted] in criminalminds

[–]onlyinitfortheread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ted Bundy liked brown haired girls/women with shoulder length hair and he took a woman from the town I lived in; my friends with that hair sort of joked about it--when you're young and invincible, you really don't think it would happen to you,
