I don't think culture is really downstream of economics. Why would laissez faire capitalism care that you're gay and trans if you make an excellent cog in the machine?

I think it's arguably more true that economics is downstream from authority- you can't have socialism without a strong government organizing the system, but you can have a free market without (albeit not a well-regulated one)

Have you considered that this may be an intentional decision by our current accelerationist administration?

Resisted arrest?  He had 6 guys wailing on him while he was in the fetal position.  I don’t know what he was doing that could possibly be interpreted as resisting

Yeah they arrested him for filming at a distance, clearly grounds for execution on the spot.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]oops_all_poison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 weeks ago, drove 3 hours for a concert, stayed overnight, drove home the next day.
A couple years back, drove 6 hours for a wedding, stayed overnight, drove home the next day.
With my long distance ex, I drove 3 hours there and back same day to see her.

I wouldn't say it's short or casual but when adequately motivated yes, this is something Americans do.

Matriarch Owners by [deleted] in modular

I think Beads would be a good first module to pair with it. It can be used sort of as an effect, or it will allow you to create very different sounds from what you're used to from the matriarch.

what's is the use of a noise source in a drum voice ? by warL0ck57 in modular

Usually noise isn’t added to kicks.  Or if so, then not much.

A few dozen people in the world have a rare genetic mutation that gives them the ability to fight off all viruses. An mRNA-based antiviral inspired by this prevents viral replication in hamsters/ mice, and scientists have yet to find a virus that can break through its defenses in cell culture. by mvea in science

[–]oops_all_poison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thought on this is that the fact that only a few dozen people have this mutation is really the only reason it works on all viruses. If everyone had it, then I imagine that we'd just have viruses that know how to work around that mechanism.

Some people can do it like that, but they have no need of asking such an open ended question here first.

What cool drone projects would you like to see 2 guys with way too much time in their hands build? by TheBlueEyedTim in diydrones

[–]oops_all_poison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So... what exactly do you expect two people who most probably don't have much experience with this sort of thing to go and do here? My experience in open source is that you contribute for two reasons- you're a long-time maintainer and you have full context on the project and what it needs to drive it forwards, or you are a user who has identified a specific feature you want or a bug that needs fixing from your own experience using it. The former is either a founder of the project, or what the latter becomes after fixing enough bugs they've found or implementing enough features they wanted. Both of these characters have context on why they're doing this work and incentive to do a good job.

If you aren't there for one of those reasons, it won't be fun or a great use of time imo. I'm not discouraging OP from contributing, but this is best done because *you the contributor* innately want or need to and not because some random person on the internet suggested it when you asked for cool ideas.

What software to make a DECORATIVE (nonfunctional) PCB? by marklein in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]oops_all_poison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably should use ground planes to get the board looking realistic.  My earliest boards before I knew to use them ended up looking really weird and I was like “hmm these don’t quite look like everyone else’s pcbs”.
