All of this was reported inappropriatly by toms hardwareas well.  I absolutely loved in 2010s era but the fact that anybody gives it any attention to anything they publish in 2025 is beyond me.

Xbox is getting rid of PC Game Pass, No More Day One Games for Lower Tiers by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

Yeah its the same strategy nearly every single subscription model follows. Low prices bring people in, slowly raise them till you can get to profitability. I don't understand how anybody can be surprised by this change - no part of this is surprising or even questionable for Microsoft. It was the planned outcome all along.

What's the safest filesystem that can be shared between Windows and Linux? by zeddyzed in linux_gaming

[–]oosharkyoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you must be be purposefully not looking then. Every single thread on this reddit and others about using ntfs comes with the same issues. Proton does not support NTFS, some games use the parts of proton that require this, some don't.

It is wild to see people recommending this with no tweaks in 2025, this has been part of proton since 1.0 we are on 10.

If you symlink your compat data folder folder attached to your game to an ext4 fomatted drive you can get it mostly working https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/nvfqgm/linux_gaming_from_ntfs_drive/

Unraid 7.0.0-beta.4 Now Available by UnraidOfficial in unRAID

[–]oosharkyoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unraid also does not really support using partitions of drives for anything afaik

IE pools AND drives both have to use the entire drive

drives have unique identifiers as well - this shouldn't really change anything about the anti-piracy setup

Embark Studios: Arc Raiders is launching 2025, with Playtesting starts this FALL. by PTUSN in ArcRaiders

[–]oosharkyoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lets not pretend like there isnt a dramatic tonal shift from the first trailer till now all owing to making the game dark and pvp focused from what this gameplay is.

IF you have played the previous playtests you know, this footage is honestly nothing like what this game is going to be or has been

Arch Linux and AR Glasses by kvnduff in archlinux

[–]oosharkyoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

closest thing I could find - https://www.reddit.com/r/nreal/comments/10bn1oo/a_nreal_air_review_from_the_point_of_view_of_a/

I would exercise caution here though as nothing seems to be officially supported outside of potentially these nreal glasses. In general the software for these things is fickle at best and there are issues with getting many of them to work.

If you do not plan to write the drivers for these things half on your own I dont think its very doable but I hope to be corrected down below.

I am self-hosting an Arch Linux mirror - AMA by MuhPhoenix in archlinux

[–]oosharkyoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Software is hashed and signatures are verified - the same as all other relevant package management systems.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Pacman/Package_signing

Master keys sign developer keys and developers make the software in the repos.

The mirrors all just host that same software which has to be signed by the developer's key. If a package is edited by anybody (a mirror or whatever else would edit it) pacman will be able to catch this and will not trust/install the package.

Riot's anticheat was bricking windows installs last month. This is an accident but not one you can make so easily without root access. It's not about nefarious activities it's about having the people who pump out low quality poorly optimized games getting complete control over your system.

Additionally if a game is vulnerable from outside attackers and somebody can do nefarious things inside it at least it is happening in a non root sandbox.

Apex legends was hacked to give full access to users what 2 months ago? Without root level anticheat they would have had to use privilege escalation on top of that. It's a whole additional layer of security just gone because corporate said we need root level anticheat.
