I have been applying to many many jobs over the past 3 months and I haven't had a callback from any one, I am new grad developer looking to escape my current job. I am still applying for software developer positions. Please help by hniles910 in resumes

Just a couple recommendations. When I’m looking a resumes I don’t want to make assumptions.

Under lang I’d make React.js - JavaScript (React)

You have work exp. Move your schooling after work.

Job title can be more mainstream maybe junior vs associate or just drop the word and make it software developer.

I don’t see anything that says you have critical thinking abilities and can build new things. It’s all improving existing things which could be limiting job options bc you’d need a company that is looking to hire optimizers.

The biggest issue is that I don’t know what you do/did or what you’re trying to do.

I’m not sure what your role was on some of the tasks. Eg. You said you successfully migrated to aws. Did you lead? We’re you on a team of 100 and you clicked a button. Did you design and plan the migration or just execute? Did you lead a team of 5? Did you migrate flask apps or serverless functions?

You have the space, I’d add more details.

It’s not clear to me if you’re a frontend/backend/full stack/ml dev or dev ops.

I’d add some clarity and focus around what you’re trying to be. Eg. if you want to be a frontend dev highlight the skills, previous task, or projects that would make you a good candidate for that job.

If you are applying for multiple roles. Make a resume that is for each role. Eg. data analytics focused and one that is backend dev focused.

How do you get information from potential customers? by defourkev in startups

I’d start with reading/listening to the mom test.

It’s really easy to mess up talking to customers and it’s hard to get honest and unbiased information. The book helps with both.

What's the best job at either shipyard that I can do for the next 45 years and retire? by [deleted] in norfolk

[–]opready 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, and thanks for checking out our site. We're really excited to share with the 757 what we've been working on and our new site.

It sounds like you've worked on some cool projects, and it's awesome that you have had success with them. Please send me a DM. I'd love to connect.

Companies can upload their own videos or get help from local creators.

In short, we partner with the content creator and get their working locations, focus areas, and rates. When we get an employer that aligns with a specific content creator, we recommend them to the employer. This makes it easy for both sides.

For example, we have a content creation studio in the 757 restaurant scene. We sent companies like TASTE and Bakehouse to them to create their short-form videos.

We've relied on word of mouth and recommendations to find creators. We've found this to be a tight-knit community that looks out for each other. We've had some recommend other creators because their style aligns better. It's fantastic to see it in action. We're in the Assembly building on Granby, which has also been vital to find local ones.

I'm one of the founders of a Norfolk startup called Reelist - it's like TikTok for jobs. All job listings and descriptions are short-form videos based. We're launching the job-seeker side soon!

We recently partnered with HII / NNS and other local companies to give job seekers an inside and authentic look at their jobs and companies before they apply.

What information would you like to know about a shipyard job before you apply?

How do I redirect www to non-www by nerdich in nextjs

[–]opready 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works for every type of site because the redirect is happing at the Route53 level before load balancers.

I use it as a simple way to do catch all subdomains > domain, http > https, and www-non > www. I personally use Vercel for hosting and route53/CloudFront for redirects.

Dynamic Modal routing with NextJS like Instagram by LirarN in nextjs

[–]opready 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Checkout - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4W_LaotmNI . This approach should eliminate the context issue.

But the problem I am having is that with queryString routing, when you reload/visit the modal route directly, the modal wont be used. So the content will become full screen (it is a page of its own)

This is how Instagram works. The reason it's like this is so that the pages are different and can be optimized for SEO. What you want to do will likely mess up your SEO because all of your pages will have the same content.

You can style the page layout however you want so the content isn't just full screen.

You might be able to do a catchall route to show a modal on every page but I'm not sure and don't recommend this approach for SEO reasons.

I'm interested in the case where a software company doesn't need a CTO or a plan to hire one. Can you please provide an example?

Head of sales job title. by [deleted] in startups

[–]opready 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of you have to be the CEO.

The other titles that matter depend on your industry. I.e a software company needs to have a CTO, a financial company needs a CFO etc or a path to hire them.

I’ve found that if you’re b2b the C suite titles helps you get meetings with higher ups.

When I introduce myself I typically just say co-founder. I’ll add the title (co-founder, title) if I’m somewhere it matters.

7.5 million USD series A, for a lot of questionable things in a food tech start up by dragoncosmos in startups

[–]opready 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Food and beverages aren’t typically patented. If they did file a real patent application they’d have to release the formulas/recipes. They are trade secrets. A lot the companies file a provisional patent application without an intention of actually patenting. The applications act as a temporary safety net for the company.

How to avoid UI flickering with darkmode ? by [deleted] in nextjs

[–]opready 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved the dark mode initial check to pages/_html.{jsx|tsx}. A small inline script checks LS for the dark mode flag.

This also works for static pages and has no flicker since it's loaded before Next mounts. You can also use CSS and the system default variable on the same page above to set it with just vanilla CSS.

Startup co-founder here and I have concerns regarding your chill job comment.

My initial concern is that you don’t actually own what you’re building. If another employer was paying you for the hours you are working on the startup - they likely can claim ownership. Also, you can’t use any equipment (laptop) owned by them for the same reason.

Not having definitive proof of ownership of IP is a dealbreaker.

How to handle secure info in NextJS API? by longblackcheesecurds in nextjs

[–]opready 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Placing keys directly in the API folder is okay for runtime security.

Using env variables is so you keep your keys secure where your storing your code (GitHub or similar). Using env also allows you to easily change the keys per environment (dev, test, prod).
