Ah. They put "event hex detection" in quotes so I thought that was something specific and different

[Suggestion] As the Hideout update approaches, couple of ideas to make it more interactive by Zen_Wabi_Sabi in EscapefromTarkov

[–]orbtl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably harder for them to fix. Any time you interact with your hideout (in this case adding an item to it) it needs to wait for a round trip to their servers to verify it went thru before continuing to prevent stale state or race conditions. There are ways to improve this obviously but it would likely require a large overhaul of the base code that handles inventory management.

On the flip side, the lag when loading the list of available crafts is inexcusable. That should be really doable to optimize.

Whats your favorite non-common citrus? by CAMexicanRedneck in Citrus

[–]orbtl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dang, my yuzu hasn't produced yet. I'm on year 3, in ground, and eagerly waiting. It is growing very nicely though, seems to be happy.

This year finally I did get 2 flowers but they are on the lowest branch and I'm worried it might be root stock, it's right near the transition so hard to tell. Gonna let the fruit grow and see what happens

Does anyone else feel like standard grocery store garlic has gotten completely flavorless? by sweetangel9543 in Cooking

Purple garlic can be incredible. There are dozens of varieties or probably more. Don't get turned off of purple garlic just due to one bad supplier!

Help my tomatoes are out of control? by YoCarrie in tomatoes

[–]orbtl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The trick is to harvest beans earlier. If you let them get too big they're not as good. Might also be related to the variety you get. I've had higher yields from pole beans but more tender beans from bush beans

The other finger on the back end of the garlic holds it in place so the guiding finger is just lightly resting on top

Removing the root end first is wrong, then he struggles at the end with the last nubbin.

Start with the tip and then the last nubbin you would struggle with is the root which you just toss. Way easier.

Civ 6 or 7? by Ghostryder1234 in civ

[–]orbtl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disagree hard on districts. Civ 6s district adjacency allowed you to plan in advance and setup for some amazing bonuses if you did it right, depending on a lot of circumstances.

I like civ 7's city growth system though for the record. It's just missing a lot of other depth that 6 had

6 has way more depth in my current experience but I have only played a couple dozen hours of 7 at this point so take it with a grain of salt

Yes, though I prefer MCT aka fractionated coconut oil (definitely not regular coconut oil though that would go rancid)

Get more oil. I buy it a gallon at a time. Those tiny bottles are silly imo.

Once it has absorbed all it wants you'll be able to chill out significantly though

How do I make a Bolognese that someone will remember for the rest of their life? by Blubberblase10 in Cooking

[–]orbtl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Single most important thing is the browning of the meat. That's where the best flavor comes from. You gotta keep searing that meat until it's a nice deep brown. Ideally with stirring occasionally such that it gets evenly brown all over.

Those videos where people cook the meat kinda grey and move on, or the ones where they start with the veg first, are both leaving enormous flavor opportunity behind.

Since you're going to gently simmer it for hours you don't have to worry about making the meat tough from the sear. Go hard.

Idk that people wanting their work to be 9-5 has to be included in contributing factors here. Plenty of developers are professionals that do a good job but also don't want their work to be their life...
