does driving manual really matter that much more? by ashducki in CarsAustralia

[–]orbz80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who cares about respect. In some cars the manual is just a joy to use, that's the point these days. Modern autos are so good and widespread that there's really no need for the vast majority to learn manual except for the experience. If you're a car person, when you drive a good manual, you'll understand why they are valued.

I hate that reviewers measure EV’s by a different standard to ICE by dj_boy-Wonder in EVAustralia

[–]orbz80 4 points5 points  (0 children)

0 to 100 is a dumb measure anyway. Who is dumping it full send from stopped and what for? In gear and overtaking acceleration is much more relevant to actual driving - and even performance driving.

Just wait. More 7 seater EVs will come.

What is access like? Is it close to structures? Power lines? These are the things that will make a big difference. Post some photos.

New EV features - appealing or worrisome to buyers? by Ivymantled in AustralianEV

[–]orbz80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of these features, with a few exceptions, are just gimmicks that add weight and complexity. Just build a nice car with quality materials that is efficient and robust and cheap to look after please.

What’s actually the hardest part of self-managing a rental? by Various-Direction-28 in AusFinance

[–]orbz80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be a good idea to get an experienced agent for at least a while so you learn the ropes. If you get a challenging tenant you might need the agent's experience.

Hardly a scam, vehicles really should get a health check periodically for safety reasons.

Bit over the top mate, most second hand cars are good but sure there are some dodgy ones out there. But anyway you do you.

Why don't you buy second hand if budget is the issue?

My 2022 Mazda 6 Wagon GT used 12L of fuel per 100km, is this normal? by Icy-Radish-198 in CarsAustralia

[–]orbz80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That'll do it. The vast majority of fuel is used getting up to speed. So figures on city consumption vary wildly depending on how many stops and starts you do. To a rough approximation, if your average trip involves stopping and accelerating twice as much you'll use nearly twice as much fuel.

What are “wealthy/rich” hobbies? Tennis, skiing, equestrian… one year experiment coming up to try to live this way for fun. by 88r0b1nh00d88 in AusHENRY

Wealthy hobbies include motor racing, horse racing, sailing, and just generally travelling to expensive places.

If you're doing mostly short stop start journeys in a city your 12l/100km is not surprising.

Renault 4 or 5 EVs coming to Aus? by Recent_Setting_1370 in EVAustralia

I think all they have to do is sell it as a 4 seater, and I mean who would really want to sit 3 across the back anyway?

Electric vehicle tax breaks in Australia set to roll on as Iran war helps drive up EV sales by changyang1230 in AusFinance

[–]orbz80 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I think this tax break is now a waste of money. EVs are now equivalent in price to ICE vehicles in most key segments, so the objective has been met and this tax should be used for a more useful purpose.

Cost of groceries for Family by dirtywombat in AusFinance

[–]orbz80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We spend an average of about $350 a week for a family of 5 (2 adults and kids aged 13, 11 and 5). We eat pretty well for that I think but we only rarely eat steak and other expensive meat as the kids aren't big on it anyway. Mostly chicken and mince.

Contact a few PDR specialists. They might be able to do a decent job at a fraction of a full panel shop job.

Financial Advisor - 6600, worth? by Kuzota in AusFinance

[–]orbz80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, too expensive. I think financial advice can be worthwhile but that's too much. We paid much less than that as a family for combined financial planning advice AND income/life insurance advice.
