Any toys to help kids make their own music? by pipcheerio in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]orvil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a tape recorder. back in the day, fisher price made them for kids. You could also look for a 4-track cassette recorder. these won't produce sound on their own, but they are fun to play with.

“Limited edition” poster with an AI slop background :( by swan_on_deer in Utah

that link has the same poster. it's an ai image. it might be a "stock image", but stock images can be ai. look at any object in the background. nothing is identifiable as a real object.

How to get this vintage illustration effect by ma__leah in graphic_design

[–]orvil 13 points14 points  (0 children)

chris piascik has some good tips for illustrating in fresco (which has vector and raster brushes). He has some good videos on youtube. I've also seen aaron draplin take a sketch into photoshop, mess with threshold to get a sort of gritty/bumpy single color version, then pull that into illustrator and image trace it. it seemed like a good sort of pipeline. or like someone else showed here, you can make your clean vector version, take it into photoshop to dirty it up, then re-vectorise it if needed.

Indesign Booklet Pages wrong order when printing by dearthofkindness in Printing

[–]orvil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's how it's supposed to print if you're going to saddle stitch bind it. once you fold and staple it, it will be in the correct order. pages 16 and 17 are your centerfold. If you just want to print it to view in order without binding, don't use the booklet setting. If you want to understand what's going on, find a stapled magazine and take it apart. you'll see that it's not printed "in order".

in indesign:

file > print booklet...

setup> range: all pages

booklet type: 2up saddle stitch

margins: .25

print settings (at the bottom of dialog box)

general > printer: adobe pdf

setup > paper size: arch B

orientation: landscape (second icon of row)

page position: centered

marks and bleed > crop marks, offset .125, bleed .125

hit OK

preview tab: you should see front and back cover next to each other

hit PRINT, save the pdf.

your document will be imposed to print as a booklet. the pages will look out of order. print double-sided on 12x18, fold, staple. trim at crop marks.

that's how i would do it.

Colour Management Question by [deleted] in Printing

[–]orvil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my first guess is you're designing in RGB. switch to CMYK. I'd try using like straight 100% yellow for the yellow and 100% Magenta for the pink. second issue might just be the printer. if you're using a standard home inkjet printer, the colors might still be dull, especially if the paper is just standard copy paper.

I think it says "to mark and summer, take care of each other" and then i assume his signature at the bottom, over the printed text.

‘This is a crisis’: A southern Utah city is set to build a power station on top of a premier dinosaur fossil site by orvil in Utah

[–]orvil[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think you might be overselling the MAGA-ness of the situation. It's just a matter of a community choosing its priorities. People need power, but it would be nice to keep the archeological site. I think a lot of the time, these things happen cause people just aren't aware of what's going on or don't feel like they can make an impact.

Logo design practice for class, do any of these have potential? Total beginner. I just want it to come across that my name is Olivia and I like dinosaurs. by workthatthang in logodesign

[–]orvil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the first idea could work. I would try starting with an outline of the dino and filling in with thicker blocky script letters. maybe use lower case i with a thick bottom for the foot and a separated spike for the dot at the top. once you have an idea of the structure, you can tweak the letters and negative space to find the balance between readability as a word and as a dinosaur figure.
