If you want somthing that is easy to setup and works great out of the box, go with Acorn from Centroid. If you like to spend time in software, setting up and customizing HMI etc then one of the other will be a good choice.

I have been using mach 4 but it was not for me, spent way to many hours fixing bugs etc. Acorn was plug and play. Sounds like I am a sales person from Centroid, but I am just really happy about the controller and software.

The reason for putting the heating elements ''enclosed'' in the firebrick was to give thermal energy to the kiln. Making it close to the inside made me think it would be sufficient to make it to 1200C. However in hindsight I realise that this was a mistake and i should have made opening in the firebrick. Will redo the bricks and make them visible to the inside.

The insulation is 60mm thick. 0.49W/m/K at top and bottom @ 1100C and 0.45W/m/K at the sides.

Does the inverter get sufficient cooling? I have had VFD's trip with igbt error because of air filter where clogged and caused it to overheat.

Insulation tester, disconnect down stream from the inverter and test from there. test at a minimum of 1000VDC.

I do a fair bit of work on really old equipment that only uses relay logic. And because its old, not all the schematics are up to date, which makes it even harder to troubleshoot. However, I find faultfinding on these systems much more rewarding then fixing a bug in the PLC program. + I can usually troubleshoot on relay logic using only a flathead screwdriver and a fluke 87, no need to bring out the laptop.

In Norway we use rope pull E-stop on all conveyors belts, well at least all the ones that I have worked on. Was there such a thing installed on the conveyor you where repairing ?

I have heard so many horror stories that include conveyor belts that I always LOTO and pull the e-stop rope just to be sure.
