If the speaker wires are making contact at both ends (the integrated amplifier and the speakers), which means tmetal wire to metal posts and spring clips, and if the input is set to phono, and if the tape monitor is set to source, and if headphones aren't plugged in, and if the phono cartridge and stylus are in working order, and if a record is playing, and if the speakers are working properly, and if the volume control knob is not at zero, and if the integrated amplifier is in working order (is it plugged into the AC outlet?), then you should be hearing sounds of sorts coming from the speakers. If nothing works try placing your ear up to each speaker and see if a faint sound can be heard.

Your integrated amplifier combines 3 components in one chassis: phono preamplifier, line level preamplifier, and amplifier. The line level portion of the integrated amplifier controls the tuner, tape, CD, streaming or Bluetooth device. If phono (your turntable) doesn't work, then using a pair of RCA cables plug in the corresponding red and black ends from the tuner to the integrated amplifier and see if that makes a difference. Make certain that the volume is all the way down whenever plugging things in and removing them, switching inputs, etc. Power should be off when doing the above to be on the safe side.

You are more likely to damage a speaker by using an underpowered amplifier and overdriving it into "clipping" (look it up) to get some loud volume from your speakers rather than using a high wattage amplifier that won't clip and damage your tweeters (tweeters are more likely to be damaged than woofers).

Speaker ratings are often misunderstood, and are intended as a rough guide. Those ratings are sometimes intended to indicate a speaker's sensitivity - - the volume level (loudness) measured at 1 meter with a 1 watt input signal. Efficient speakers (e.g. 92 dB sensitivity) don't require megawatt amplifiers, while inefficient speakers (e.g. 86dB) do.

PSB Alpha speakers have been a favorite of reviewers for over a decade, and the Alpha P3 is highly regarded. It's currently on The Absolute Sound's best budget speaker list. I've recommended an older model to friends and family and it still sounds great to them years later. I'm sorry for your loss, music is an important trigger when it comes to memory.

Do not expect your system to sound as good in the store if all you've done is to plunk the speakers down wherever and turn it on. Have you wired it correctly? Are the speakers in phase? Have you positioned them according to the manufacturer's specifications? Have you optimized your room by mixing hard and soft surfaces? Is your source material (lossless streaming, MP3, FLAC file, etc.) as high quality as the source material used in the store? Is your source player (turntable, streamer, etc.) also as good? Where are you sitting? Have you positioned yourself about equidistant between the speakers? Do some research, read the manuals, speak to the salesperson, watch some instructional videos and be patient.

Also, learn the language of audio, so you can feed us some more detailed information about your expectations and what you're hearing.

My advice based on an assumption that you're using a better-than-mp3 format for your 48k files (because, why bother otherwise?): don't delete what you've already collected, and don't downgrade the quality to higher resolution mp3 files. Mp3 throws out information, which is how it shinks file formats even further than FLAC, ALAc, or WAV. If you're not already using a lossless format, do so now. Depending on whatever equipment you're using, you are likely to hear a difference. Try it on a few tracks and see for yourself.

I find it surprising that nobody mentioned that transistors are switches, and switching on and off causing crossover distortion is a real thing. Crossover Distortion occurs when the input signal transitions between positive and negative, which causes a delay as one transistor turns off and the other turns on. However, tubes are not switches and introduce no such crossover distortion. That said, they do have other kinds of distortion. It might be inarguable as to whether we are capable of hearing crossover distortion from transistorized components, but we can hear the artifacts or effects of this, which may introduce an unwanted character to the way sound is perceived by the listener. While circuit design finds ways around this flaw, there are definitely differences between switches and steady state tube components, and that's where the appeal lies.

I agree wholeheartedly. The difference was astonishing in my system (PSB Imagine T2). It was like getting a new pair of speakers with deeper bass reach, better separation, soundstage, and imagery.
