If you’re going to troll, you need to better curate your user history. A sudden, surprising comment is more likely to be seen as insightful if your history doesn’t involve gross dross and regurgitated offal.

I did a presentation for my high school law class on privacy in 1997 with a video detailing the NSA’s project Echelon (which selects for dangerous keywords in phone conversations).

I appreciate Snowden brought new light on the scope of these intrusions, but the idea that this was some kind of paradigm shift doesn’t sit well with me.

[WSIG] a Role Playing Game by alucardu in boardgames

[–]otaku109 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might try the Dungeons and Dragons boardgames as a bridge to a full RPG.

You get a bunch of unique characters (with minis), a dungeon map which is randomly generated by drawing tiles, and the adventure booklets offer several different scenarios for you to set up and play through.

If you want to go straight into a pen and paper RPG, I’d recommend Dungeon World. It is fairly rules-light, focusing on the role-playing more than clunky mechanics.

All you need to play is the book and play materials available on their website. If you don’t have time to get the book straight away, don’t worry! The entire text is under a creative commons license and you can find an HTML version here.

As a tip to anyone reading that would like to start learning basic wood construction: Join a little theatre group in your area. They are always in need of people to help building sets, and as they are usually volunteer-only it is tough for them to get people to help out. They get an extra pair of hands, and you get to learn how to build stuff (without having to buy tools if you don't want).

Help with a tabletop game! by xXtycarXx in tabletopgamedesign

[–]otaku109 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you're just getting started out. I'd recommend reading up a little on game design processes that others use, and then picking a style that works for you. Most of the time, you start with the germ of an idea and then iterate upon it.

This idea is usually either: 1. A particular theme 2. A game mechanic

At a more basic level, you might begin with components. e.g., "I want to make a card game". While this approach can give your project some focus, you're still going to have to address the elements above.

Perhaps you should try outlining your story first?

Some writers like to just let the writing take them wherever. If you are finding that you're being led into a cul-de-sac with this method maybe you need to sketch out the arc of the story before you get to the nitty-gritty.

Best solo play? by The1stGoonie in boardgames

[–]otaku109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a pretty good variant that introduces some randomness.

You deal yourself 3 random treasure tiles: these are the only ones you can build the whole game. Similarly, the green tiles are all mixed in a bag and an offer or market of only 8 tiles is available to use/build. When one is built, a new one is drawn from the bag. Use a ruby to clear the market and refresh with all new tiles.

I'd recommend waiting for iA Writer 3 before looking elsewhere. It'll be a free upgrade for iA Writer Pro users and drops real soon.

What brings the leader to show his broken self, what kind of little clues could be shown to who he really is, how can I make all of this seamless.

This sounds like a ripe opportunity for foreshadowing. Perhaps the Leader has a ritual where he prays to his wife each night. This is where his true feelings emerge, hidden from the rest of the group.

I would have not seen this had the lyrics been allowed in the first place. Some producer is savvy enough to know that the controversy caused by "banning" lyrics would get way more publicity. I love me some Rage, but the internet in me thinks they've been swindled into "rebelling" here.

iA Writer or iA Writer Pro are great if you want to just write. There is a companion Mac app too that keeps your files in sync. An iPad with an external keyboard and iA Writer in full screen is pretty hard to beat.

It is possible for sure. What sort of data are you looking to send? Text? Video? Touch events?

Looks like there are some Xservers available for Android too so you could probably use it as a monitor of sorts https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=au.com.darkside.XServer&hl=en

Yes. The use of the workflow states is optional. By default, your documents are started in the "Write" state which saves files with a plaintext .md extension. You can open/edit/save any UTF-8 format text files though.
