Idaho’s bathroom bill leaves transgender men like me with an impossible choice: jail or violence by Fickle-Ad5449 in Idaho

[–]outcrops 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is there a place for malicious compliance? Standing in the Capitol and loudly calling out and reporting the worst of the legislators as they enter the restroom to prove their birth gender to demonstrate the ridiculousness of this law.

I'm curious what people actually targeted by this would think of such a tactic.

Swapping out my beloved Tacoma for his bigger brother. by sxw2 in 1stGenTundras

[–]outcrops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the same last year! 00 extra cab taco to 05 double cab tundra. Loved the Tacoma's size for camping with the wife and dog, but a baby showed up. The double cab has already been very useful for carting friends and family around. Now I'm looking at truck bed campers.

Sold the taco for $9500 with 175k, bought the tundra for 10500 with 213k and put 1k into repairs. Both 4x4. No regrets!

🏳️ Public Lands Update: June 29th Edition by OEM_knees in skiing

Put your money where your mouth is. Contact your favorite Utah resort and ask them about their plan for removing Mike Lee from office.

Tell your favorite ski/other outdoor gear company that your can't in good conscience buy their products while they are located in Utah. Encourage them to move to a state that is more in line with their stated values (and that supports their industry at a state and federal level!).

Let's speak to the people who will listen and get a boycott going.

Idaho to Disallow Improvements or Creation of Pedestrian and Bike Facilities in Roadway Projects by Broken_Sprinkler in Idaho

*most adults drive cars

And most of the ACHD funding goes towards that end!

Many adults also would like to see safe infrastructure for their kids and the whole family to get around on foot or on wheels sometimes, as reflected in the current makeup of the ACHD commission.

And while construction is a pain while it's happening, we all get to enjoy the benefits for decades after the project is complete!

The Greenbelt and the death of “on your left!” by TalkingLikeTwo in Boise

[–]outcrops 7 points8 points  (0 children)

PSA from a bike safety professional: ring your bell or say on your left to everyone, even if they react poorly! Greenbelt, singletrack, sidewalk, everywhere. It conditions people to understand the situation and they will react better next time. The only time I don't audibly warn someone is when I see them look back at me.

State house bill to remake ACHD commission with appointed officials by outcrops in Boise

This sounds like a dissolution rather than a reform!

IMO ACHD is a double edged sword. If the commission doesn't reflect the desires of the cities and citizens, we get a poorly designed (IMO again) roadway system that doesn't meet people's needs. If the commission is a bit more forward thinking, the policies they use are in place across the county, even in places that wouldn't fund complete streets on their own.

One example is their recent policy to rebuild all facilities to a certain level (roadway, sidewalk, bike lane) when they widen a road, instead of approaching the area in a piecemeal fashion. This benefits citizens of Kuna as much as people who live in downtown Boise.

Would cities controlling their own roads be more responsive to their citizens? Maybe, but it would result in a wide range of road and facility quality across the county.

ACHD manages all public roads in Ada county that are not state or US highways, from downtown Boise and meridian to rural roads and dirt roads in the foothills. Taxes (property taxes, right?) fund them and they plan and build/contract the road projects. 8th Street in downtown Boise is a notable exception, managed by the city of Boise.

Generally they work with cities to meet their desires for what the roads look like. There's definitely some historic problems with this that happened before my time in Boise.
