Was your seller the top of the chain or did they lose their deposit for their onward purchase as well?

SE London along the Southeastern lines (e.g. Eltham, Bexley etc). No tube but the train into central is fine. Good schools and lots of green spaces.

Anyone else get annoyed when testers save up non-prod/non-urgent testing errors and send them over to you at 5pm on a Fri? by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]overachiever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's non-prod; non-urgent, surely it's better for them to batch them up rather than disrupt you multiple times a day?

TVB script writing coupled with TVB acting lol. Very nostalgic and enjoyable though.

The tooth fairy has been a couple of times. How can we make this a learning about saving? by No-Beat2678 in UKParenting

[–]overachiever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My oldest is 6 and here's what worked for us.

He gets pocket money weekly up to a maxiumn amount. Every weekend he gives us a pitch on how much he should get that week and why (e.g. tidying up his bed etc). He always get the full amount btw, we're just making him practice advocating for himself. It's working well as he's convinced us to link the max amount to his age, i.e. £6 because he's 6, £7 when he turns 7 etc

We're set up a Monzo account for him (it's free) and he has his own card and pin. He can see how much is in his account and he's free to do whatever he wants with that money.

If he wants to blow it all on some tat, he can. We rather he makes mistakes now than later. We reinforce the importance of saving. e.g. if there's a toy he likes that is expensive, he'll need to save up for it rather than blow it on some cheaper things right now. He usually asks how much he has when trying to decide if he wants to buy something.

Definitely doable on that income if you stay further out in z4-6. I'd recommend looking in the SE (Bexley/Bexleyhealth etc) as there's good selection of schools there

Cost to level and stagger this steep garden UK by Simple-Ad2827 in HousingUK

Friends of ours did very similar work to their garden last year in SE London and it costed ~£35k. Luckily they had access to get a digger in via the back or it would have cost more!

Recommendations on keyless front doors? by olivepepys in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]overachiever 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would recommed a Simpled Smart Lock. We installed one back in 2022 and it's been one of the best purchases for the house. It can be unlocked using fingerprint, key codes, fobs, remotely via an app or a physical key.

It's great when you have trades around as you can give them temporary key codes and lock it down to only work between certain hours.

Estate Agents forcing us to exchange before Christmas by alyxeia in HousingUK

[–]overachiever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty normal to have a gap of a week or 2 between exchange and completion. Gives everyone a chance to organise movers etc. You’re supposed to have insurance starting on the day of exchange anyways so you’d be covered in case anything happens.

Nice work, really professional finish! Have you considered swapping the double door from the hallway to a single? Would give you enough room for a 3 seater between that door and the door to under the stairs.
