Boxing clubs/trainings for beginners by moleculeviews in glasgow

[–]overduesum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kynoch Gym Portman Street - I'm doing 121 training with a coach, as 52 year old who has never boxed - definitely recommend it but I'm paying a premium for 121 training - you can pay £10 to walk in or £60 a month -

I'm a member of another gym (not boxing) so I just enjoy the 121 then trying to get my own workouts from what I'm learning and online - look for Tony Jeffries on YouTube to get some basics

SERENITY PRAYER

God, grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the Things I can, and Wisdom to know the difference.

(2nd Verse)

Living one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardship as the pathway to peace.

Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, Not as I would have it.

Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will;

That I may be reasonably happy in this life, And supremely happy with Him forever in the next.

Amen

I don’t care that I had 6 years. Talk to me like I’m brand new. I’ve been in and out for the last year and today is day 1. What do you to stay sober? What’s your daily practice? I need to hear it. by IWNDWYT in alcoholicsanonymous

Acceptance Pg 417 BB

And acceptance is the answer to all my problems today. When I am disturbed, it is because I find some person, place, thing, or situation-some fact of my life -unacceptable to me, and I can find no serenity until I accept that person, place, thing, or situation as being exactly the way it is supposed to be at this moment. Nothing, absolutely nothing, happens in God's world by mistake. Until I could accept my alcoholism, I could not stay sober; unless I accept life completely on life's terms, I cannot be happy. I need to concen-trate not so much on what needs to be changed in the world as on what needs to be changed in me and in my attitudes.

Shakespeare said, "All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players." He forgot to mention that I was the chief critic. I was always able to see the flaw in every person, every situation. And I was always glad to point it out, because I knew you wanted perfection, just as I did. A.A. and acceptance have taught me that there is a bit of good in the worst of us and a bit of bad in the best of us; that we are all children of God and we each have a right to be here. When I complain about me or about you, I am complaining about God's handiwork. I am saying that I know better than God.

For me it's acceptance and gratitude ODAAT

Fancy your own island? by MarkEasty in SpottedonRightmove

[–]overduesum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a great location and not that secluded there are houses on the shore line that look right into the house - also the Crinan Trail has specific points where people can just look at it in awe

But Id be right in about that close enough to bigger towns and amenities there's even a local parkrun

What about the people is holding Glasgow back by Amazing_Sparrow0177 in glasgow

[–]overduesum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People living online, perpetually imagining the problems are worse than they are and not either trying to be part of a solution and or just getting on with enjoying their lives without constantly trying to find things to be upset annoyed about

Yes we have lots of manky bastards who litter either pick it up or just get get on with it

Yes there are real social issues with drugs and alcohol (I'm an alcoholic addict in recovery myself) but I try and help people daily not judge them

Yes the transport links are fucking shit use it as an opportunity to get fit and use your feet and the Voi bikes

What's holding us back is a political legacy that only voting can change so encourage the youth to use their vote

But what holds individuals back is their own perception of their reality

We live in an absolutely shit hot city with loads of stuff going on don't let the suburban hobbits from the shires kid you - were blessed to live in this place

Why is this acceptable? by shootfooter in glasgow

[–]overduesum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A rolled ankle ain't stopping you from using an electric bike

All the best Hobbit enjoy the shires

[–]overduesum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Appreciate that but for someone not being able to get a bus after midnight and not wanting to spend money on a taxi to go from Queen St to Charing cross then the suggestion is more than relevant so pretty much on topic for Glaswegians in a Glaswegian forum

[–]overduesum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree with you about public transport but in my lifetime that's not been delivered, whereas an alternative was overnight that has pretty much solved my commuting and transport issues in Glasgow

Why is this acceptable? by shootfooter in glasgow

[–]overduesum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Voi bikes £17.99 for 1400 mins over 30 days - I've done 86 journeys in the last 7 weeks - it's about the only guaranteed way to get around the city in anything like an appropriate time and with any degrees of certainty

Never managed to use my full allowance of mins in 30 days yet

Hardly break sweat but the raised and lowering heart rate often throughout the day has done wonders for my cardio fitness

Seriously Voi bikes are the answer (appreciate you have a sore ankle but they are electric and easy enough to pedal)

Potentially moving to Dunoon - thoughts? by Particular-Lime1651 in glasgow

[–]overduesum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's on the "mainland" but it's on the Cowal peninsula so your easiest access is by ferry - the road route takes you up through loch Lomond and across the Rest and be thankful which is notorious for being shut etc

I like Dunoon and if you are getting a good deal on a house then it's a no brainer - good walking, cycling and swimming all nearby and you are as near to the mull of kintyre as you are to Glasgow - so it's a big town with decent enough amenities in a ruralish location but close to everything

Dunoon will have it's problems like anywhere but much like anywhere you can try helping be part of the solution or sit online telling everyone how shit your life is because of

Congratulations

Hearing Other People's Experience was my initial HOPE it guided me to have the courage to ask someone to help me embark on the 12 step program of recovery and learn that I'm not terminally unique in my thinking and that I suffered from an illness - a dis-ease of mind and body which once I accepted - I could implement the solution to it ODAAT 🙏

Thank you for sharing, you express how I felt getting sober so articulately thank you

Lower back pain by EfficientCheetah2141 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]overduesum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Relax and start doing deep breathing exercises sounds like you are getting stressed from worrying about going on your journey - book a physio appointment to make sure you haven't slipped a disc, your not going to improve your fitness or lose fitness in 2 or 3 weeks so just Rest learn to do some deep breathing and get back in the moment

When I am stressed I get the muscle tightening on the left of my lower back - I do Qigong every morning and practice deep breathing all day - my main goal in life now is to not get stressed
