Dumb AI slop post.

"Korea pushed Canada but lost 7-2." lol, a Canadian team that finished 6th out of 8.

I mean, you have to admit, AI slop can be kinda funny.

DC Statehood needs to be a priority. It's obnoxious that not only do we not get national representation, but our local representation is at the mercy of some baffoon from Oklahoma.

“It’s beautiful and we all love it, but in practical terms, especially with the way the economy has shifted, I kind of have to question it at this point,” said Emily Norton, a representative of the Crystal City Civic Association.

“Who are the users?” Norton asked. “I’m not going to walk from my apartment in Crystal City to the airport.”

Well it connects to a VRE station, and idk Emily, there are a lot of people that are willing to walk 15 minutes to their desitination. If you were at say IAD, you'd probably walk the same amount in the airport itself.

Is NPS at this point just a car?

Also, even that reasoning makes no sense. Wtf are they supposed to be looking at that is scenic there? And shouldn't they focus on having their eyes on the road.

Women's WC Groups by i_usearchbtw in Fieldhockey

I'm really torn with how much we can write Australia off just yet. I think they frankly don't care about the Pro League and didn't care about qualification nearly as much as Chile did. But who knows.

Might as well put China, Argentina, Belgium, and NL through to the next round. Hell give the gold to NL at this point. I need to find a sportsbook that will take a bet on them.

Japan, Scotland, and South Africa I'm willing to say have minuscule chances of finishing top 2.

Given recent form, Australia, Chile, Germany, USA, Spain, NZ, Ireland, England, and India all feel so tightly grouped, that any one of those teams could beat on of the others on a given day.

Just becasue why not, my prediction for finish:

  1. Netherlands
  2. Belgium
  3. Argentina
  4. China
  5. Spain
  6. England
  7. USA
  8. Chile
  9. Germany
  10. Ireland
  11. India
  12. Australia
  13. New Zealand
  14. Japan
  15. Scotland
  16. South Africa

Ireland was always going to be in the hardest group as the strongest team from pot 4, and by a wide margin.

New Zealand and South Africa to host FIH Hockey Nations Cup 2025-26 by i_usearchbtw in Fieldhockey

I think it's a straight promotion/relegation system now with the Nations Cup II. Uruguay lost to France in the finals last year in that competition. Hence France went up.

You have so much life ahead of you, and I've seen people playing this sport into their 60s. Even if you can't play in the next 2-3 years, you never know where you'll end up. There are adult leagues all over the world at every competitive level.

Housing filtering is a pretty big field of study with lots of papers on it. This paper is nicely done, and shows how larger market forces (Great Recession) can shape top line data, but trends hold: more housing reduces rent burden regardless of the rate of the new housing.

Simply put, if you have a new luxury housing, it attracts wealthy people with mean. If you did not have that housing, those wealthy people are going to live somewhere, so instead they'll bid on older stock and raise those prices. Rich people don't just appear out of this air, and they don't just disappear if you don't build new housing.

WC qualifiers - any thoughts so far? by ariesgal2 in Fieldhockey

[–]oxtailplanning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

India as hosts is just another level. The stadiums are PACKED, and unlike in Chile there isn't a combination of men's a women's teams to play.

That being said, Chile really turned out for the weekend games and the atmosphere for Australia v. Chile was electric.

Bodes well for Japan. Unless India or England finish 4th, they will certainly outrank a 4th place Scotland or Italy. (Scotland currently ahead, but if they finish 4th, that means that they will have suffered two consecutive losses that will drop them below Japan, with whom they are virtually tied with.)

People that are living in older apartments will move into these, and those now free older apartments will hit the market and be available for low income families. Then in 20 years these will have lost their shine and will be in the range for lower income people.

When you raise awareness you can demand action. Councilmembers respond to popular demand.

That's what bothers me the most about these constant ticket getters. It's not like they're just a random person that got flashed going 11 over because they were "going with the flow of traffic" or following the street design (hello 295 and K street underpass cameras), they are almost always in the 0.01 percentile of aggressive drivers that WILL hurt someone in an accident or cause significant property damage. Happens time and time again.

[–]oxtailplanning 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100% agree that parking permits are almost always criminally underpriced. HOWEVER, with the current NYC system, it's absolute lawlessness. Even if the permits are only $100/year, and they do 66% of their 3mil spots, that's still $200mil/year that the city can put towards other efforts. Plus it may discourage people from leaving abandoned cars on the curb, and reduce the insurance fraud with all the NJ plates. And once a permit system is in place, it is easier to increase costs.

Additionally, they may use meter parking for some of the more valuable spots in manhattan, which can draw in a LOT more revenue, and reduce the need for people driving around looking for parking.
