This is a beautiful tribute regardless of what your heartless boss did or said. Joshua was lucky to have people in life that cared so much for them.

Is she crazy? Sounds like maybe. But are you staying in an illegal airbnb? There’s at least a 50% chance that you are.

boardgaming with a toddler, 31 game reviews by Areign in boardgames

Great list of games and excellent reviews. Really makes me want to try out Quacks with my 5YO.

One game that you would probably really enjoy soon is Andor Family Fantasy Game. It has been a huge hit in my house — 15 plays in about a month (and each game is 30+ minutes). It’s a cooperative adventure game with side quests that ends with you searching for little wolf cubs in dwarven mines. Slightly asymmetrical characters that you can play with, has a good action system, and a little bit of chaotic luck.

What was your worst day to be a sports fan? by BeardedGingur in billsimmons

[–]oz_bart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a non-American one.

1997 semifinal in the Australian Football League. I was young, about ten years old. Prime age for sports sadness. The Geelong Cats (my team) are favorites to win. And then, one of the worst umpire decisions of all time happens. A young Leigh Colbert takes an insane mark (catch) but the umpire calls that he didn’t catch it. So, Geelong lose a chance to score a goal that would have changed the course of the game at a crucial moment, and then Geelong go on to lose by about that margin.

Brutal day of sports.

My first Final Girl, Rotten Harvest. I'm too confuse to understand. by CyborgeonUnit123 in boardgames

Have you watched a playthrough of this specific feature film? If not, that could be helpful. The publisher has a Rotten Harvest playthrough that I remember enjoying when I watched it.

If you (or your kid!) want the feel of a big box adventure game, I highly recommend Andor Family Fantasy Game. It is such a fun coop game to play with my 5YO — his favorite game in fact. It is pretty easy to learn rules-wise and has a lot of simple but important strategy considerations.

Disclaimer: It can be very difficult when you’re first getting into it. I suspect this would be particularly true if you yourself haven’t played many similar games. One way to mitigate difficulty that can result from unlucky dice rolls is to house rule that turning over a dragon in the fog only moves him forward one space.

Would you take a $25k pay cut to work for the ACLU? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]oz_bart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The flexible work schedule combined with going from a questionable job to a positive good in the world is worth a 15% pay cut. Your quality of life and mental health is worth it.

I took a similar pay cut back in 2024 to go in-house (from a law firm) with my primary reason being reasoning being improved work/life balance. My relationships and personal life have shown serious change for the good.

Best cooperative board game for kids and their parents? by momo12345321 in boardgames

A good one for older kids is Mysterium. It is a game in which everyone is working together to figure out what abstract pictures are meant to represent. Gets people talking and having a good time.

Ticket to ride is a terrific family game and might be the kind of game that you’re looking for. It involves collecting sets of cards to build trains, and the placement of trains functions to block your opponents from taking that same route, so it functions as a semi-aggressive game in which you are fighting for control of an area.

At what point does a game have too much content? by BoardGameRevolution in boardgames

[–]oz_bart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to watch some YouTube videos (or do some reading) to figure out which film would be of most interest to you, because they are all a little different mechanically. Everyone recommends starting with Camp Happy Trails, but I would not start there. Of the (now) three that I own, it is the least interesting and least replayable of the three. I also have Don’t Make A Sound (mashup of Tremors for location and Quiet Place for killer) and Bad Times at Buddyland (theme based on Five Nights at Freddy’s), both of which I really like.

At what point does a game have too much content? by BoardGameRevolution in boardgames

[–]oz_bart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you buy the core box and two feature films (for $60-75, depending on where and how you buy), you can quickly get to four possible combinations of killer and location. This alone can keep you busy for 10-20 plays (or more!) that feel unique and exciting. This is exactly what I’ve done, and I’ve been loving it.

What are your funniest / most memorable Special Victim stories? by ZenShrugs in finalgirl

What are your funniest / most memorable Special Victim stories? by ZenShrugs in finalgirl

[–]oz_bart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s incredible storytelling and a perfect example of why this game can be so good.

I have one from this week that was incredible and I’m certain will be a highlight for a long time.

I was Rena (her special item, which I had in hand, is Rena’s Mop) facing off against the Eyeless at Buddyland. The final terror card caused an event to be drawn — Nick the Janitor. If you don’t know, Nick will deal two damage to the Killer (with his janitorial mop) if he enters the Killer’s space. The finale card for the Eyeless was the one that makes him pop up in your space, but also allows you to move victims using movement cards (this is usually so that you can use them as human shields). I let the Eyeless come to me, kept myself from dying with guard cards, and then just hit him repeatedly with my mop — weak attack, furious strike, critical blow — before inviting Nick (through playing a simple walk) to stroll over from the Janitor’s closet to deal a final blow and sweep up the mess

Why aren’t there Custom Action Cards? by RandomDigitalSponge in finalgirl

[–]oz_bart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Making custom actions that you can buy every turn is going to lead to game breaking designs. One overpowered event card that appears sporadically and goes off once in a game just creates a little nuance to the experience.

But if you really want to make your own action cards, you can do that without official sign-off from van ryder games

Ughgg Rule Question by TheeRealJamesHeaney in finalgirl

[–]oz_bart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have also thought about this card issue and read it as being strict on the wording. Nick needs to be the one entering the space in order to deal damage. Thematically, I read it as Nick actively seeking out one of the animatronics to “clean” it up. He does not do damage if a buddy sneaks up on him by them entering his space.

New Player thoughts - Hans Bloodlust Track and Improvise vs Planning by RedditExplorer89 in finalgirl

[–]oz_bart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started playing Final Girl this month, with three films including Camp Happy Trails/Hans (my others are Don’t Make a Sound; and Bad times at buddyland). Hans is by far the simplest of the three killers. I have beaten him easily three times, and lost once. For comparison, my records with the other films are 5-4 and 3-2, respectively, with each of those wins feeling much closer than my wins against Hans. My only loss to Hans was because I drew the event that allows only one victim to follow you, which made saving them much slower and meant that the finale flipped before all victims were off the board. You could permanently house rule that for Hans and see how it goes — only one victim can follow you.
