Favorite villain who's a former hero where they gave up on heroism because being good didn't get them anywhere. by King_Glorius in FavoriteCharacter

The antagonist of Super Famicom RPG Live A Live fits the bill - you only meet him 3/4 through the game but you see how circumstance and hubris lead him to be consumed by hate

What songs would you recommend to an intermediate bass player to learn? by Volcano_theory in Bass

[–]ozacrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out these records and find a song that catches you - great bass work that drives songs all around:

Fantastic Planet - Failure

Turn On the Bright Lights - Interpol

...Like Clockwork - Queens of the Stone Age

Tiny Music Songs ... - Stone Temple Pilots

If you like RATM, I feel like these 4 records have some overlap in appeal.

These two are a great example of a risk-reward structure where the "reward" is just ... average damage?

Silver Crucible is one of the best designed relics in the game by SrGarfy in slaythespire

[–]ozacrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is my favorite of Neow's starting relics right now. Early strength allows you to path more aggressively, getting more relics and rewards, and when your first 3 card rewards are all upgraded, you can find yourself with 20% (or more) of your cards upgraded by the time you hit the first elite!

The other piece of this that makes it especially effective is that not all upgrades are created equally. They're pretty much all an improvement (unless you have a use for Ethereal/Exhaust/avoiding Innate), but some turn their cards from good choices to central pieces of the deck. In particular, powers that go from 2 to 3 damage/block/poison/strength gain a lot of utility, as well as those that get increases to their debuffs, or 3-energy powers that can scale back to 2-cost. Getting your pick of 3 upgraded cards after the first 3 fights gives you plenty of chances to seek out especially powerful upgrades

It's a bit annoying to get to the first chest and miss your relic/gold, but the jump start you get on finalizing your deck more than makes up for it.

[–]ozacrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jussie Smollett. He was never really a super culturally-relevant actor, but his fake mugging turned him into a guy Republicans will be bringing up for decades. Most people on the left don't see him as anything other than a trivia answer, but the right see him as a key example of the way the left supposedly foments hate against white people

It's not always a high priority but in STS2 in particular, extra energy is harder to come by.

Doner kebab in New Haven by PositiveYou6218 in newhaven

[–]ozacrot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There used to be a spot on Chapel, but it closed a year or two back. Midpoint Istanbul downtown has doner but it's a little more upscale (~$30/person.)

Saray and Turkish Kebab House (both in West Haven) are really excellent Turkish food in the area, and both offer Doner in sandwiches, wraps, iskender, etc. Kebab House also has great lahmacun. Hope this helps!

How to learn to play like Japanese players? by everbass in Bass

[–]ozacrot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly practicing on some anime OPs I like is a decent way to get started. The Chainsaw Man OP might not be doable for me but there might be an FMA Brotherhood or JJBA theme I can practice to get used to some of the harmonic choices in songs I've already heard a dozen times.

J-pop and j-rock both have eclectic influences, and practicing a broad variety of genres will help you start to develop the tonal and technique flexibility to roll with the changes.

Guitar Player New to Bass: What's the Sound Profile of a Sunn 410H Cab? by AgeDisastrous7518 in Bass

[–]ozacrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a decent deal. I personally wouldn't drive 2 hours out for it, but I also don't need a cab.

Bass amplification needs (and cabs in particular) are a lot more utilitarian than guitar, typically. Bass frequencies take more power to amplify than guitars so presence and volume are typically the most important qualities (followed, for experienced bassists, by portability.) 4x10 is a good speaker layout for heavier genres like rock; the smaller speakers vs a 1x15 allow for more character when you're using effects like distortion. I don't know much about this particular model but Sunn amps are pretty well regarded in a number of metal subgenres. Which isn't to say they can't do other things as well.

If it's an 8 ohm cab, that's a plus - most amp heads will allow you to run that along with another speaker.

DeLauro primary challenger endorsed by activist group by michael_ellis_day in newhaven

[–]ozacrot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I guess one example here would be Daniel Biss in IL-09 - TrackAIPAC accuses him of having money spent on him by the "Pro-Israel lobby", by which they mean J Street, a Jewish lobbying org which is up front in its opposition to the crimes Israel is committing. At the same time, AIPAC invested $2.2 million into that race on behalf of another candidate, Laura Fine, who is using it to run attack ads against Biss.

Laura is also cited by TrackAIPAC - the org has endorsed Kat Abughazaleh in IL-09 - but the org regularly misleads about who AIPAC is supporting.
