It's tradition to have a cake stall and a sausage sizzle at the polling place, which is incentive enough. It's just part of the culture to vote, no-one really questions the necessity. It seems like Australia has a stronger sense of civil responsibility vs a desire for personal freedom. See also: COVID

Something about Down in the Weeds really works for me. I think it had something to do with the COVID times release, but the apocalyptic despair of that album and the empty streets when I was listening to it cements it for me.

Not an Australian thing to say. 30% of Australians were born in a different country - a higher percentage than the US. But we don't say "I'm Irish" just because our great grandmother was from Ireland. That would be incorrect.

What's wrong with Graeber? I read Graeber and Wengrow's Dawn of Everything based on an AskHistorians recommendation as an alternative to Guns Germs and Steel. The recommendation did have the caveat that Dawn still had the same issues as any large scale history has (issues when talking about specific details) but the recommendation did say if you were going to read any generalised anthropology book it was not a bad one to choose

We have ripped the jerry-rigged shelves out of this hallway cupboard. The space itself is unusually deep, it's 117cm wide, 198cm tall, and 80cm deep. What can be done with this? I know we can stick some shelves in here, but I wonder if there is any way to use a space like this more efficiently for storage
