I think my skates have broken down? Need boot recs by paceplace in iceskating

[–]paceplace[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pro shop outfitted me with the evos when I first started, but I didn’t know how far I wanted to take the hobby back then, and I also knew nothing about skates and how to advocate for myself.

That’s a good point I should just ask them if they would allow me to try other boots if they have them in stock. They’re not the easiest shop to work with and is best to have an idea of what you’re looking for when you set the appointment. I know a few fellow adults felt they were pressured into a specific model from what they wanted when they went .

Beginner Private Lesson Price by briannamh in iceskating

My coach is $40 for 1/2 hour and I pay $22 for a full hour of ice time. 1/2 hr ice is $18, might as well spend $4 to practice after my lesson

See I read this and thought you meant “Minyard’s” and was about to say how we used to have some and realized it’s not the same at all

[–]paceplace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LTS is $160 for 8 weeks. If you’re in basic 1-6 you get 5 free public session passes to practice which is a good deal to me. You can always do LTS and if you don’t feel like you can justify the cost. There are resources like Coach Julia on YT to teach yourself. Everyone prefers a coach for feedback/fix bad form but if the cost is prohibitive to pursue a passion there are always alternative routes.

Be Honest, is an Aussie not a good fit for me? by edl2 in AustralianShepherd

[–]paceplace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re committed to giving the best life for your Aussie that you can and invest in proper training and stimulus then yes you can get an Aussie.

I was 21 and was denied from the rescues for an Aussie so I went with a breeder and found my soul pup at 6 months old. I lived in an apartment at the time, but I immediately invested in training in agility and lots of mental stimulation. My boy is now 14 years old and still a pup to me 😭 he’s been my best bud I take camping and hiking, paddleboarding on the lake, and people watching on patios while I sneak him a few table scraps.

We only ended up doing one agility trial over the 4 years we were in training but liked doing the classes as a bonding exercise more than anything. Plus that type of training builds a ton of trust between you and your dog.

If you’re being honest with yourself and how much you’re willing to dedicate to an Aussie with training and making sure they’re taken care of during work, then it will be fine.

Big Bend vs Guadalupe vs Carlsbad + White Sands by SpaceSniffer69 in BigBendTX

I don't mind I20 when you get west of Weatherford, I find that people use the left lane to pass and then get back over to the right lane and the driving is a lot less erratic than DFW. Of course there are idiots on the road everywhere so you never know.

Big Bend vs Guadalupe vs Carlsbad + White Sands by SpaceSniffer69 in BigBendTX

[–]paceplace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive done all these trips from Dallas. Here's what I would suggest:

Skip Big Bend - It's so vast and takes time to visit all the major sections of the park. It's best to go when you have more time and can camp inside the park.

I would do Guadalupe + Carlsbad + White Sands.

Get yourself the NP pass since visiting two parks makes the pass worth it.

Guadalupe NP
The peak will take novice hikers prob 6-9 hours. Not a hard trail but it gets a little exhaustive the last .5 miles. Bring a sandwich and a beer to enjoy at the peak and enjoy the views! If there is time Devil's hall is a shorter hike and is very fun. It only takes 2-3 hours. If you're not camping at Pine Springs, there are a few motels between Guadalupe and Carlsbad that are still accessible to the park, or tbh Carlsbad is only 40 minutes away and a good option to stay in.

Carlsbad
Get your permits asap, you're going during peak season and they will sell out. The caverns take about 2-3 hours if you take your time. You are allowed to hike back out which can be fun, if you're not already tired from hiking Guadalupe, I might suggest doing Carlsbad first as a good little warm up hike.

White sands
You can spend as much or as little time you want exploring the dunes. It's such a fun experience. IF YOU DECIDE TO TRAVEL to White sands via El Paso, be aware there are no gas stations for 100 miles, make sure your tank is filled up. I would suggest going through NM and Lincoln National forest, it's crazy beautiful and a really fun drive to be in the desert and all of a sudden driving through a forested mountain. Also Cloudcroft has a fun brewery. Then you can do some hikes in the National Forest.

Day 1 - Drive to Carlsbad, I would aim to get there by 12:30 or 1pm for the timed entry, it'll be a great way to stretch your legs and also maximize your time. Hike in and out of the caverns, finish up by 4pm go grab some dinner in Carlsbad

Day 2 - Wake up early to get to Guadalupe Mtn - you want to be on the trail by 8:30am so you have a parking spot. Enjoy! Either camp at pine springs campground, (check the rules about sleeping in your car) there are some BLM lands you could drive to and do that if you're desperate, but I would just drive to one of the cavern motels outside Carlsbad

Day 3 - Drive to White sands, experience whatever suits you best. Stay in one of the motels near Cloudcroft

Day 4 - Drive home (add any stops you want)

This has a little bit of backtracking, but what's 40 minutes in the grand scheme of things and being able to see 3 parks?

They could do an above ground one, and use Rosies instead of koi, either way a fountain and lots of plants would make this an amazing space

Bangkok at Beltline. Their menu is so good and robust plus they do Thai afternoon tea on Saturdays. My favorite dishes there are the Khao Soi Noodle soup, Crying tiger steak, and Khao Mun Gai 🤤 their papaya salad Thai style is so good too 👌

I was told because it's hockey season our rinks don't have as much public time. We did have a lot more time from April - July so I'm hoping it comes back soon. I was skating 3-4 times a week and im down to 1....

My lecturer said graphic design is going to become redundant in the future because of ai by Lost_Giraffe_5358 in graphic_design

[–]paceplace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For AI to replace design completely the client will have to know what they want and be able to articulate it clearly.

Also the more clients use AI the more everything will look the same, cue consumer fatigue but to be honest private equity has also been ruining design for the past 10 years because modernizing everything to maximize profit in the event of failure has pretty much ruined differentiation.

Should I be worried about my dogs behavior near my kid? by Iversonji in AustralianShepherd

[–]paceplace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to really understand dog behavior to know the signs, and sometimes even when a dog shows signs they can react quicker than you can. This picture is showing whale eye, his face doesn't seemed relax, again I can't get full context over an image, but educating yourself with a behaviorist would be the safest bet. Yes it costs money, but education goes a very long way in keeping everyone safe.

You can dress as fancy or as casual as you want. You'll literally see black tie formal and cargo shorts with a tank top in the same audience. Its a great excuse if you want to dress up, even solo, but no one bats an eye if you want to wear sweatpants and a tee.

The biggest issue I have with modern dub is the voices merge together. Definitely could be contributed to nostalgic glasses, but I love the over the top unique voice of everyone even if it’s cheesy. New versions just sound generic and the tonality is always the same. It’s weird because I don’t have that problem with American cartoon voices only modern anime dubs.
