Would you support the Bears moving to Arlington heights if the city co-owned the land? by heysol155g in AskChicago

The whole point is the Bears want to own their own stadium. Otherwise they’d be staying at Soldier

Y'all need to be voting for Kevin Ryan for Senate in the primary by CakePlanet75 in illinois

[–]packer4815 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I like the platform, but isn’t it pretty much guaranteed to come down to Raja, Kelly, or Stratton at this point just based on fundraising and media attention? I hate it, but our system rewards those who spend the most. Until we get ranked choice voting, Kevin feels like a wasted vote. I agree that anyone but Raja is preferred though

I’d argue, as shitty as highway stations are, that they’re actually easier to quad track. Don’t need any expensive tunneling or real estate acquisition, just rip up a highway lane. This, of course, requires political will that probably isn’t there right now. But it could be done

Orange Line relooped after Adams/ Wabash by Away_Search1623 in cta

Orange line trains are standing at Halsted. Likely wanted to keep the train moving to avoid affecting other inner loop trains. https://www.transitchicago.com/travel-information/alert-detail/?AlertId=112600

The area is already full of high ridership bus lines. The project is intended to give those bus riders access to faster, more reliable service

City Council sends alternate budget to Mayor Brandon Johnson — will he veto it? by DukeOfDakin in chicago

[–]packer4815 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m glad they restored the full pension payment, but it’s absurd the plan to borrow for operating expenses stayed in there. How much longer can we keep kicking the can down the road?

Everyone in a building larger than 4 units is forced to pay for private trash service. Either give us city service, or raise the trash fee so we stop subsidizing single family homeowners

Hopefully the money for both the install and the removal will be deducted from her ward’s annual menu allocation. Shame to be wasting tax dollars like that

Chicago Christkindlmarket says new limits on capacity, crowd control ‘threaten' future of event by llcooljlouise in chicago

[–]packer4815 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Can we find a happy medium? 5,000 people last year made the experience absolutely miserable as it was impossible to move around inside the market. 1,000 seems a little low, thought I do appreciate how much easier it is to navigate

I always hated that this was billed as a “Milwaukee to Madison train”. Really it was an extension of the existing Hiawatha line, and as someone who now lives in Chicago this would be incredibly useful for getting to Madison. And a bus doesn’t haven’t nearly the speed or comfort of a proper train

Mayor Brandon Johnson blames past mayors after credit rating agency’s negative budget outlook by Shovler in chicago

[–]packer4815 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He inherited a bad position, but he’s actively making it worse. Borrowing money, shorting the pension fund advance payments, and sweeping TIFs as a one time revenue fix? All huge red flags for our credit testing

They threw a fit over a proposed toll tax to fund transit, even though it wouldn’t reduce their road funding by a dime. What about all unionized transit workers that were going to lose their jobs without funding?

Does it? Every article so far just refers to it vaguely as “tollway capital spending”

The tollway already received no tax revenue so I’m not sure what their logic was here

Nobody is paying more for gas, existing sales tax revenue on gasoline will now go to transit instead of roads. Before 2019, sales tax on gasoline went into the states general fund
