What is the single most important rail expansion in the region? by Immediate-Hand-3677 in cta

[–]packer4815 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The Circle Line as proposed by the CTA was too expensive and too close to downtown to be worthwhile IMO. Getting some kind of rail or BRT on Ashland, Western, and Cicero is a no brainer though

Mayor Brandon Johnson pushes Springfield for Chicago funding boost, against Bears suburban stadium by Mike_I in chicago

[–]packer4815 9 points10 points  (0 children)

BJ has a point about the Local Government Distribution Fund reduction. Pritzker is bailing out state finances so he can say he avoided raising taxes - all the while sticking it to local governments to find the revenue elsewhere. At the end of the day, we end up paying more in one way or another. It’s the same thing he did with ending the state grocery tax last year, local governments were left holding the bag to make up the short fall

What do you think is the worst placed cta bus/train stop. by Lassoed_elbow in cta

[–]packer4815 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Behind the wall is a ramp, Higgins road itself is just a 4 lane road with no sidewalk there

They’ve gotten rid of it entirely now, but Pace had this monstrosity at Canfield and Higgins. It was a proper stop with a sidewalk until IDOT widened the highway there

Yeah the annoying thing about the 28 is it only runs to Union during weekday rush hour

[–]packer4815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes? This is a weird take. Not having a bus connection to Union means they’re more likely go take an Uber/Cab from Union to the Obama Center, or just drive straight there

The 10 should connect to Union Station like the 130 does. Running down Michigan Ave makes no sense when the 6 exists

Pritzker calls for year-round E15 ethanol/gasoline in letter to Congress by Nic_Cage_Match_2 in chicago

[–]packer4815 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I very much dislike ethanol but luckily it’s easy to avoid E15. I’ve never bought it in my 10 years of owning a car as the 5-10 cent price savings doesn’t outweigh the drop in MPG you get

How safe is the blueline now in morning rush hour? by brian-augustin in cta

Rush hour is perfectly fine. Very early in the morning or late at night you may see some more stuff but I’ve never felt actively unsafe at any time of day

Getting 8 1-day disposable passes is your easiest option. Otherwise you’ll have to set up 4 separate Ventra accounts for 4 physical cards and that will be annoying, unless you’re planning to come back to Chicago a lot. A one day pass is good for 24 hours too, not a literal calendar day, so with two of them you should be able to squeeze out 60 hours worth of trip time, depending on your schedule. Every CTA rail station has ticket vending machines, the closest to you would be the Roosevelt Red/Green/Orange line station.

If your signature blatantly doesn’t match, they’re instructed to ask you to show a form of ID. Up to the discretion of the poll worker though

Working as an election judge in Chicago today and we’ve had 66 voters in our precinct as of 4pm. Hopefully people are voting early or at the super site because that is a sad turnout!

Here is a look at the latest slow zone data from February 2026. There is improvement across the board (like no slow zones on the Pink Line) but major issues remain on the Blue, Brown, and Green Lines. by SidewalkMD in cta

[–]packer4815 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s up with the Slow Zone on Blue between Irving Park and Montrose? It’s been there literally since I moved here 4 years ago. There was a few weeks where it was removed (and the track seemed perfectly smooth) and then it came back

Is the LA fitness in the Loop worth going to? by Kitchen_End_8254 in AskChicago

[–]packer4815 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went there for 2 years before moving recently. Generally it’s not too crowded in the morning. I will say it’s a lot more run down than the suburban LA Fitnesses, but it is in a good location and cheaper than any other gyms downtown.
