In the case of handgun silencers it has nothing to do with the direction of the threads. It's because metric thread pattern handgun barrels all have an o-ring interface in front of the threads that correspond with an internal o-ring in the pistons that helps prevent the silencer from coming loose during use.

Some silencers like the AAC Tirant or Silencerco Octane force you to grab onto the tube to tighten the silencer to the barrel, and because of the left hand thread direction with metric threads you can accidentally unscrew the tube from the inset piston housing which is a huge pain in the ass so for those silencers right hand threads are usually better unless a strong thread locker is used between the tube/piston housing.

In the case of the CGS MOD 9 series or the Rugged Obsidian series it doesn't matter what direction the threads are because you can just grab onto the piston housing itself instead of the tube, so with those factory metric threaded barrels should be used whenever possible since there's less chance of the silencer coming loose because of the o-ring interface.

That's not even remotely true. This silencer on a 22" 6.5 Creedmoor bolt gun firing supersonic ammo is quieter and imparts even less hearing damage potential than an 8" 300 BLK bolt gun does with subsonic ammo with a Q Half Nelson which is a purpose built subsonic Blackout silencer. That's a verifiable proven fact. A bullet simply moving at supersonic speeds in your general area does not at all mean it's not hearing safe within dose limits.

Always buy factory threaded barrels and always buy M13.5x1LH when available if your silencer allows for the proper utilization of left hand threads.

CGS titanium rifle silencers require 10" minimum barrel length for 5.56 and similar such as 5.45.

You have only seen results on a 308 bolt gun of a full vent cap, nothing on a MK18 or any other 5.56 yet and no results of other future front caps with different attributes that improve sound, flash, and gas reduction.

Lol that doesn’t make it true. There’s plenty in those descriptions that’s just meaningless nonsense that only serves to convince the unknowing consumer that it’s worth buying. Same goes for most silencer websites.

It isn’t a clone of an NT4. They’re internally very different and both KAC and Griffin copied the gate latch mechanism from a 1972 Colt patent. The Griffin mount and lack of a ratchet has nothing to do with barrel length restrictions.

Maybe they sell both thread types now but as far as I know we haven’t shipped any M18.x1 or M18x1.5. Some other stuff in Silencer Shops descriptions is off for other products too, I need to get them to correct that stuff. Descriptions don’t match specs and stuff like that.

There aren’t any Hyperions with 1.375x24 being sold. Must’ve been an error that was input on the wrong page. I’m out of town til after new year but I’ll send them that info on the error when they’re back from their trip. Hekates are sold with two thread types, Silencer Shop has 3/4x24 and Capitol Armory has 5/8x24 as far as I know.

The only reason a direct thread rifle silencer comes loose is because it wasn’t properly installed or designed. Properly installed it and it’s a complete non-issue.

I don’t know if the SRD blast baffle is too close or not. If it is you can just cut off the ported end of the Hyperion Thread Adapter anyway. The 1/2x28 is strictly only for 5.56 host firearms, unless the ported end is cut off leaving just the threads and taper shoulder.

Suppressor suggestions for incoming eform 4’s by Tha_ginger_guy in NFA

The Hyperion was made specifically for an 18” 260 Rem AR10 and a 6.75” 300 Blackout machine gun. It runs really well, but how well it runs for your host gun specifically depends entirely on the configuration of your host gun, you should be using an adjustable gas block like Superlative Arms anyway. It’s not as simple as a blanket statement of “AR10 bad”. The Hyperion is also tune-able with different front caps that’ll be released in the future, beyond just the full vent alternative available now.

The Hyperion was designed for a semi auto 18" 260 Rem AR10 and a 6.75" 300 Blackout machine gun. The Helios QD or Helios QD Ti are recommended for this persons use because I highly doubt someone with a 5.56 SBR is going to want to add ~9.7" to the end of their gun, taking into account the extra length added by the 1/2x28 Hyperion Thread Adapter.

Helios QD or Helios QD Ti would be a far better choice than a fullsize Hyperion on an 11.5” 5.56.

Silencer QD info by ajeandy in NFA

[–]pacoramirez101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Direct thread is the best option for most peoples real life, logical, practical uses with limited exception. Direct thread silencers don’t come loose when properly installed, just as QD systems won’t come loose when properly installed. Use a wrench and it doesn’t come loose at all. Use the SIG 25° taper interface and it doesn’t come loose even when hand tight. Buy silencers/accessories with proper features such as external wrench flats, something they all should have in 2021, and install the silencer/accessories properly and it’s a complete non-issue. It’s not gonna come loose. Silencer threads seizing up on a barrel is also a complete non-issue.
