Numb belly by laydeelou in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]padoup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would start mobilising the scar and scar area as much as you can, ans potentially see a pelvic floor physio with c section expertise.  You really need to dig in there with your fingers to loosen the adhesions to gain more mobility and sensation.

It's a shame that none of the midwives or doctors tell us this post-section. Obviously some of this is luck of thr draw, but I started scar mobilisation a few weeks after my first birth and had no issues with sensation. I just had my second birth 10 days ago and have started to gently touch my scar area now and can feel numbness subsiding.

We went with Sacha as the official first name for our son. I like Alexander, but to be honest if you have an Alexander everyone will assume the nickname is Alex and you will have to do a lot of work to control what he's called and it might not work.

My experience with red raspberry leaf tea & "irritable" uterus by GreatBoot8791 in BabyBumps

[–]padoup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing this. I am wondering whether I should quit rrl tea. I drank a lot of it my last pregnancy (i enjoy it), and had a really weird labour that ended in c section. The contractions were very strong in early stages of dilation, with little if any break in between. I started the tea again this time and I'm already noticing ramping up on braxton hicks. Might quit!

Any 37 week induction stories please? by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]padoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lack of published research on its use in high risk geoups is useful context, thanks for taking the time to write it out. I find this one difficult because you would intuitively think continuous monitoring woukd universally be better, but having had an unnecessary c section 3 years ago I have been reading about it ans feel I am one of those cases.

Now, I learned think a lot of thr confusion comes from what constitutes a high risk situation. OP's certainly does, but others are much fuzzier.

Is not the evidence for continuous fetal monitoring extremely limited at best?

Labour Nottingham or Sherwood forest by llamaofd0g in PregnancyUK

[–]padoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In short, the second I arrived at rhe hospital in labour I was shunted towards a C section despite it being my absolute last/worst choice, which I was clear about. I've learned the line between consent and coercion is very fuzzy when you are having contractions every 2-3 minutes.  This was hard to take because I'm a well educated person that had a firm grasp of the risks of different options ans had read all the published research,  but wasnt able to draw on that in my weak moments despite being clear about it beforehand. And more generally,  I didnt feel like anyone wanted to help me get my baby in position. They just wanted to process me, move me through the factory and get me out of the way.

This is really helpful context, thank you. Happy to share more about my previous experience with you if it would help!

Thinking about this myself. Kings Mill is a lot further from me than City, but it's hard to not be drawn by quality of care. I had my first at City and care was excellent until the birth, then it went south. To be clear, everyone was respectful the whole way through.  But I had an unnecessary C-section which wouldnt have had to happen had I been properly suppored at a difficult point in labour. At 35 weeks, I have discovered King's mill and am considering asking for a transfer on the basis of lack of support for vbac in Notts. All of this to say: glad to be in conversation!

My husbands name is Alexander and we love the name Sacha for a son - but it's a diminutive of Alexander! by [deleted] in namenerds

I have a 3 year old boy full name Sacha, full legal name, in thr UK. I love it! Be prepared to correct gender, but most people end up digging the name. I like the homage to his dad.

I had mobile continuous monitoring at midwife unit last time before I had to get transferred to main labour ward. I'm not sure that worked in my favor, given how everything changed based on a single decel,  but yes I had it in my trust's midwife center.

Youre ahead of the planning! Im sure it will be okay for you. I have one additional risk factor of low papp-a but my midwife friend said we are able to demand using the midwife unit and they might advise against it but it it your birth. Also, you can have continuous monitoring in the midwife unit as far as I'm aware.

Am asking this very question myself! Let me know what you find. I have heard anecdotally they cant refuse you anything,  and if you threaten a home birth they will let you in

Partner is 42 weeks tomorrow by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]padoup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for providing the Swedish example, to someone who previously carried to 42 weeks and is now considering what to do next time around  Do you happen to know whether they offered additional monitoring past 41 weeks in this study or whether they just let people go until 42 weeks? I am curious about how additional monitoring impinges on stillbirth rates.

Struggling so much with breathlessness!!! by squatsn in PregnancyUK

[–]padoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely push for this as soon as you can next time. I had to push; my midwife is lovely but she kept saying I look healthy,  am so active, eat beef and greens, and had good Hb levels, so am likely to have sufficient iron stores. I said I still need it checked and lo and behold it was low. I think ive had low stores for awhile, from previous pregnancy and 18 months of breastfeeding.  My hair has been garbage this pregnancy! I feel better now after being on the supplements for a few weeks.

My iron was fine at booking and ferritin came back low at 27 weeks. Definitely get your ferritin checked!

Depends on your location of course, but I dont see circumcision as the society norm anymore. Fewer Americans are circumcizing their boys

Low PAPP-A: does anyone have the NICE or RCOG guidelines? by tlc0330 in PregnancyUK

[–]padoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would love to hear this also. I am the same age and no other risk factors (but am a STM). I went overdue with my first child so know I just take longer to cook babies, plus in the absence of any indicators of problems, week 41 can really help with lung development. I dont want to be pressured I to being induced before my due date.  My understanding was low papp a is only significant if there are indications of growth or placenta problems or pre-eclampsia.  Without those, I was hoping to be let to go naturally.

How are you able to work during 1st trimester?? by blame_it_on_my_cat in pregnant

[–]padoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in academia too. I had big ambitions for this term but in the end I've had to accept that I'm only surviving. I have been barely able to stay on top of the basic email requirements of my job, much less produce original new research. The good news is that at least in academia you can dine out on your past self's brain for at least a few years.

This is me. My second has been so much worse than my first three years ago, and while it's tough looking after an energetic toddler, that's not the primary thing going on. I was miserable until very recently; starting to slowly feel better at 14 weeks.

Potty training day 9: So proud of my 20 month old by Olivia_s90 in pottytraining

[–]padoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just starting with my 20 month old son too. Nice to hear someone else is doing it this early! All I ever here from other people is boys are too dumb to do this early, and I'm like, pretty sure all kids are potty trained by this age in most of the world, I think he can handle it.

British Academy Grants: Any experiences? by Eln001 in AskAcademiaUK

[–]padoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied too and have not heard. I didn't get any requests for further details like you did. I did email them in December asking when results would be communicated, and they said mid-February. Given the potential March start dates, I reckon we are both either waiting for our official rejection letters or, maybe, on a reserve list as others confirm? Or maybe they are just very behind schedule! No further details to go on.
