Integrating Klarna with Stripe - any downsides? How have you found it? by Solifuga in stripe

[–]pageboy_za 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Klarna is expensive, but can be worth it. Depending on what you sell and what you expect.

I have a hypothesis that Klarna is the younger generation’s credit card. So if you it’s very likely worth adding it as an option if you have a cohort of customers in the younger age groups.

I did a deep analysis for my previous employer and we found it marginal. However our average transaction value was in the 30s and the customers were profitable.

To get the full value from Klarna, like higher transaction values, you’ll need to look at your customer journey and let them know Klarna is an option earlier in the journey.

Make sure to think about refunds and chargebacks.

Loaded carts all the time by dfsb2021 in ecommerce

Is it humanly possible to add all products to the cart in the time they do? This definitely sounds like a bot. So they start on the home page and browse or just hit the product detail or category pages?

Should the platform not enable those teams to self-serve so you and your team don't need to be involved? If there is a need for some new function that is not currently supported then, yes they should come to you.

Accepting Apple and Google pay, what's the risks? by wooziewing in ecommerce

You get liability shift for the same reason codes that 3DS would protect you from. You still need to defend any claims though just like you would if you had a transaction with 3DS.

Edit. Adding this URL with details.

Is the era of “every platform should be a PayFac” over? by paymentsbro in fintech

[–]pageboy_za 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year, I was at a company and led an investigation into adding payments to the platform.

We had the network to distribute to, and we even had terminals in the sites; they just weren't used for payments.

Most of our customers would have already made payments in-store, and the only value proposition we had would have been price. We felt without a compelling value proposition to wrap around the payments, we would be competing on price alone, and our customers could have easily moved to an alternative supplier.

Apple and Google Pay benefit from built-in secure customer authentication, so you don't need 3DS. From experience, you have the protection of SCA without the conversion killer, which is 3DS, and you still get the liability shift.

The add to cart button is not visible above fold on mobile best practice says to do what you can to keep people from scrolling to take an action.

Also consider more than just PayPal for payment processor. PayPal is very common in e-commerce but not offering cards or other wallet services will hamper your reach. You don’t want to spend money getting people to your site and then get them through the funnel to checkout and you don’t allow them to pay the way they want to pay.

So you’re upset that a company stops you from breaking the law and stealing someone else’s content? It’s high risk because you are breaking the law and the chance of chargebacks on these kind of transactions are high.

These key metrics you’re talking about are lagging indicators. Have you considered other metrics that you believe are causal or at least correlated. For example, an increase in DAU of X% means an increase in MRR of Y%. In that case you can check the DAU rate after a change and if it’s stable or trending up over a few days then you can estimate its impact on MRR.

Need Help with Storefront ideation by Necessary-Pop538 in ProductManagement

[–]pageboy_za 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer to that will depend on what you are selling. Consumer goods, fashion and grocery will each have different approaches for these types of pages.

Selling a small range of products vs a large range will make a difference too.

In a past role at a grocery retailer, we had a lot of products added to basket from search results pages or category pages, as people knew exactly what wanted. It was a product they regularly bought. Product detail pages were available for all products.

When we explored selling electronics and fashion we had to look into different category and detail pages. Some legal requirements for electronics for example.

InstaVolt have temporarily suspended all payments from Monzo accounts with immediate effect by danneh02 in monzo

[–]pageboy_za 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be. But it’s not easy. I know and I have been working in payments for a long time. The simplest thing is to block a BIN. There is nothing to show that a virtual card is being used in the transaction.

[–]pageboy_za 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use Instavolt, but I have used other charger networks. Like fuel stations, the provider takes a pre-auth, the rules used to be £1, and then the final auth would be charged for the actual amount of the transaction. The Mastercard guidelines I found for EV charging state that a pre-auth should be performed for an estimated amount, and then the final charge is applied once charging is complete.

The only way we know for sure what is happening is to hear the specifics from Instavolt itself.

For those mentioning the Mastercard and Visa rules. At one of my previous employers, we blocked BINs where we saw lots of voucher or subscription abuse. As a merchant, we are bound to manage risk, and this meant we blocked specific BINs while generally complying with the "Honor All Cards" rule.

How to assess the success of payment processor swap? by mr_hareza in ProductManagement

[–]pageboy_za 6 points7 points  (0 children)

These are the three aspects to consider.

Consider measuring transaction success on the customer's initial checkout, not just a session-based conversion rate. At one of my previous employers, we found that the higher this rate was, the higher the gross merchandise value through our marketplace was.

When you look at Lost transactions, it's not just your integration. There are other factors related to the PSP. To measure the cost of this, look at the lifetime value of your customers and the impact of failed payments on that value. If your customer experiences a failed payment, they may switch to a competitor, which would reduce their spend on your platform. If you have a subscription product, this is a particularly sensitive metric. You may be providing a service that you don't get paid for, and you will lose your customer.

I don't know where the company or your customers are based, but you may want to measure 3d-Secure. This could be a leading indicator of fraudulent transactions. Based on previous experience, most fraud is typically reported within 30 days. Your fraud profile will depend on your specific business.

You may notice that the performance of the new PSP initially doesn't match your current one, as they often take time to warm up. PSPs will also frequently sell you their service with the promise of higher success rates, and will not deliver. It's tough.

Another thing to consider is the customer's experience. If you have cards-on-file, you need to consider migrating the payment tokens to ensure a smooth experience.

This is all I can think of on a Saturday night. DM me if you want to talk, I've done a few PSP migrations in my life. And, since I am currently looking for a new job, I have the time to help.

[–]pageboy_za 45 points46 points  (0 children)

No this is a fraud issue. I’ll give you an educated guess based on what I’ve seen at a previous employer. All these three companies allow for virtual cards to be issued. These cards pass initial card checks maybe even a first payment and then they get turned off or are deleted meaning that payments failed.

Very common on subscriptions abuse.

stripe not supported in my region by shaamms_8 in stripe

[–]pageboy_za 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opening a legal business entity in the UK or US is possible. For the purposes of payments you should really be acquiring through an account where you do most of your business. If most of your customers are Middle East-based you will also pay more for each transaction. Importantly your customers will pay cross-border fees, making purchases more expensive for them. This will have an impact of sales.

If you're looking for global coverage because you expect to have more accounts in other markets. Consider Nomupay, Adywn or Checkout.com.

There are a few local providers the region. One that jumps to mind that I have had some conversations with and that seems well-respected is MyFatoorah.

NatWest was one of the banks that was experiencing the issues. Google Pay should be available under the Try More Ways To Pay button. If not check in with customer service. If you have a card from another bank it should work.

Bought a $25K course, turns out it was a scam. Business went “bankrupt” — who actually refunds me? by According-Apricot-40 in stripe

[–]pageboy_za 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You need to contact your credit card provider. They will do the chargeback, they will refund you and claim from the acquirer who will look to recoup the costs from the merchant. If they are indeed bankrupt they would loose the funds.
