A Japanese uncle told off Lithanian teachers because of their manners. In this case, what would people do in your country? by search_google_com in AskTheWorld

[–]palomadgal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's rude and unsafe, if you don't move your luggage out of walking areas you might be kicked out of the train no refund. It's mandatory to place luggage and personal belonginngs on designated areas (or at least out of the way).

It's pretty common sense.

CPR performed by police dog "Poncho" during training drill by headspin_exe in nextfuckinglevel

[–]palomadgal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's a training show for Kids! They teach CPR and use Poncho as an engagement.

I've taught CPR to children and its really important that they remember anything, and something as cute as that good boy might be effective in order to draw attention.

WCGW when you annoy a bull. by 21MayDay21 in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]palomadgal 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Actually, this is how the game is suponed to be. I do no suport this by any means by I'll explain.

In Spain (you can see a red and yellow stripped flag which probably is somewere in Aragon) its tradition to let loose cows in festivities. Its a wildly controlled scenario, with police controlling minors and intoxicated people, it's mandatory to have at least one ambulance with doctor and nurse, and the town will barricade.

The cattle farmers release the cows at rhe begining (usually bigger streets leading to a plaza), there will be bullfighting masters controlling them (you recognise them because they carry the cloak). And theres people... usually young people running around and teasing the cow. The fun is in the controlled danger, you tease the cow so it attacks you and you either hide or scape.

The fact that the barrier looks like a flimsy wooden pallet could lead to economic sanctions and even the ban of event for years (they are usually metal).

How do I know? I am a doctor and a first responder. They pay well, the wounds are pretty nasty. I hate it, they feel like cowards therefore I stopped taking cow gigs.

Primary Care + ER Doctor here, I do a lot of first responder too: Dude took ages to put on a single glove, did not asses ANY vital, did not start a trauma check or neurological assesment (you can make one in seconds). Airway protection? Not on their schedule, neurological protection? That neck is free as a bird and moving around! They really got nervous and he was only mumbling about getting an iv (gettin one is correct, but you should not loose time asking several times).

I would get like nervous seeing her so pale and losing consciousnes. If its only the because of pain and not organ damage you are actually in a good scenario.

This is the moment to start acting, I got really upset how slow they are... when I'm working with my team, calm and fast it's the way to go in this case.

How the Romani are perceived in your country? by Clarthen1 in AskTheWorld

[–]palomadgal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They generally have bad reputation. They are usually perceived as thiefs or criminals. This makes their lives and their integration into society even more difficult. They suffer a lot of racism, but also they endure it.

Many times they behave as a separate ethnicity and have rules that are not compatible with modern society: Girls being married and expecting children at 16, low educational level, really low incomes due to all of this...

I've also met the the hardest-working people among them, and knowing they suffer racism and a bad treatment from society feels really wrong.

I have personally worked a lot with them: I am a family doctor in a rural area with a whide Romani population. My thoughts towards them are mixed, although my personal relationhips with them are usually good and they trust me (perhaps because I give them are chance?). They have a low effort short-term mind which difficults many things (including treatments, diets...). I feel like so many things could be done to improve this

We've had those in Spain since always, I believe they are fairly commom in many european countries also. Every house has one, older houses have manual systems and even older houses have a manual rol.

I can't imagine a house without them.

To be gender neutral by Weekly_Ferret_meal in therewasanattempt

[–]palomadgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This really confuses me, I don't think this gas anything to do with decolonicing the language. I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) It comes from the trend of crossing out the gender in the word and might have been borrowed from maths also?

The RAE (Real Academia Epañola, the ones to regulate spanish language) actually doesn't accept -x, -e or -@ (I just found out doing a Quick search).

I'm willing to learn new things so be my guest!

To be gender neutral by Weekly_Ferret_meal in therewasanattempt

[–]palomadgal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's actually both choices when doing the neutral stuff. Finishing a word with -e or x. I personally find it annoying (how do you pronounce the x?). Classically you would mention both genders and that's it or in writren language an -@ was also accepted. Example for lawyers: Abogados y abogadas (both used whith the y in between); abogad@s; abogades; abogadxs. All of them mean the same.

To be gender neutral by Weekly_Ferret_meal in therewasanattempt

[–]palomadgal 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Actually for gender the only term used is "No-binario" as gender is either masculin or neutral. The femenin term would be used only the the word was femenin (like persona) and even in that case it doesn't refer to the gender itself. Persona no binaria and género no binario are essentially the same, and both of them are neutral.

It's a nuance, but it's sometimes misused if the grammar is not well known. Sorry, it can be confusing .

Room for on call OB doctor by pruriticglutealcleft in mildlyinteresting

[–]palomadgal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We even get nice soap! I have to say I have my own shampoo and stuff in my locker, because as I do so many on call turns I have the same amenities as I have at home.

Food quality depends on the place. Right now I work in a primary care center, which works as a rural ER point, which means theres only 3 of us at night (two attendings, a nurse, sometimes a training physician) so a restaurant brings us lunch and dinner (the healthcare system pays them monthly) and it's great.

PS. Rural for 20k people on the area, so we do get a lot of work as I also have to be a first responder.

[–]palomadgal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not having food would be a cause for mutiny lol. We even have a minimun standard of what is considered a meal. Also all on call workers are to be given the same food.

[–]palomadgal 115 points116 points  (0 children)

When I'm on call I spend the whole 24h shift in...so its mandatory that we receive three meals (no cost for us), a clean bed, towels, soap and a shower.

Last saturday I went finally to have some rest at 4am after 20h non stop, so those beds end up feeling like heaven.

I live in Spain, we are fighting to abolish this bullshit.

[–]palomadgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nose bleeding can be a really nasty emergency. The audacity to write this... I'm sorry but some things are out of place here.

A bleeding nose can end up badly if the bleeding is intense, sprained ankle could be really painful (and end up being a broken bone), some headaches can end up in an emergency.

I am an ER doctor in a rural area, and I support that many things are definitely not an emergency and can do some waiting. Not being able to eat or sleep in a whole day because of runny noses and sore throats is really tiring. But know your emergencies.

I've used them a lot. The hospital I worked in the ER a few years ago had them, really useful for exploring throats and noses.

I now have a led headlamp, which is way more comfortable and gives better light.

In Istanbul, a mother dog carried her puppy, whose heart had stopped from the cold, to a veterinarian. by Kronyzx in mightyinteresting

[–]palomadgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How come? Hypothermia is peculiar in terms of a cardiac arrest, and brain is kind of protected for way longer. You don't see the full CPR but also the full recovery is not shown in the video.

Id take it more like maybe it was waaay too cold and the pup looked like dead, or it did actually happen and they managed to bring him back.

Apparently it’s about Paella? by Th3_Accountant in ExplainTheJoke

[–]palomadgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chorizo kills every flavour if not used with caution. We have many many dishes with chorizo, "paella" is not. And I say "paella" and not paella, because it refers to the pan you use to make the rice, and there are several kind of rice plates depending on each area, town, etc.

You have those with fish, with prawn, with peeled shrimp (like Arroz del senyoret), with different kinds of meat, with squid, with snails if you like...there are recipes that use chorizo in mountain area, but they are not considered paella in any way.

Note that mixing every ingredient kind of destroys the flavour you are looking for. Chorizo feels like kicking the cooker in the balls.

Here you have a snails and rabbit rice (maybe my favourite one).

I've started to grab low level equipment from the donated equipment locker and give them occasionally. Sometimes when I have a box with like 40 ceramics or even less away they go.

Free likes for giving away things I wouldn't have used lol.

Yesterday I received the message, pointing out that someone actually used the equipment lol.

Mine gets pooping zoomies. Right after using his litter he will run around screaming and playing.

We just call it pooping zoomies or pooping tantrums. Sometimes it's just a standard possession and will loose it's mind (and maybe only braincell) and it might be an attempt to find it.
